Diversity Training In America today, we have all sorts of people. Each of these people, for the most part, needs to sustain jobs in the U.S., and have the right to do so. Furthermore, they have many more rights that enable them to work in a comfortable environment whilst being treated fairly, and not receive different or "special" treatment due to age, sex, race, or religion. All of these aspects play a part in our cultures and mean different things to each culture. This is why it is so important to be culturally competent and have positive and effective diversity training for companies. With so many different cultural people mingling in the workplace, it is important to know that your employee will not only respond to each other respectfully and with kindness, but also know how to communicate properly with their peers that tend to have "different" qualities than them. Diversity training is specific training given to employees by companies to protect their employees from civil right violations as well as to include more cultural and social groups into their work pool. These trainings also greatly increase teamwork and employee relations. Diversity training is meant to increase their employee’s cultural awareness in many ways, making communication and interactions between employees as pleasant and non-incidental as possible. Diversity training has been a very controversial issue here in the U.S. While its supporters will say it is only right to teach respect to other cultures and diversity, its opposing groups make the argument that diversity training, instead, focuses on the differences in people rather than the things they have in common. This is obviously the opposite effect. But these programs are too important to be done away with on that sole argument alone, even if it were accompanied by the many other arguments people have come to voice. In fact, the best…...

The three images/ideals of family that is discussed in the text are, The Family as a Haven, The Family as a Fulfillment, and The Family as a Encumbrance. The Family as a Haven is defined as an escape for family members from the outside world. The demands of work or community responsibilities can be overbearing and the family was seen as the source of love and intimacy. People in the world differ in many ways. People in the workplace are no different. From color to gender, from age to sexual orientation – no one person is ever the same. ...Some companies hold diversity workshops. Some hold retreats. Some offer surveys or accept anonymous suggestions on how to improve cultural diversity. Some create diversity task forces. Some offer mentorships. It seems to be consistent across the board that diversity training programs must have goals that come from within the organization and for the right reasons, not because the company is solely concerned about protecting its corporate back. When diversity programs are rammed down employees’ throats, they are not effective. When the ivory tower of corporate management institutes a diversity training program and mandates that all attend, employees can become resentful. Mandatory diversity training can even cause biases to deepen. If a company believes that a one-day training workshop will eradicate a lifetime of prejudice and biased beliefs, it is wrong. The goal of diversity training is to create awareness of the differences among co-workers and teach that working together cooperatively produces a win-win outcome for the employee as well as the company.
