Why we should not go to the Mars
Launching a manned mission to Mars has been a dream or substantial matter for the scientist throughout this decade. This idea has been argued by certain groups of people with supporting or opposing view. The trip to the Mars planet had facing a lot of problems or issues which need to overcome in order to continue this mission. Some of the supporting parties may argue that the exploration of Mars gives us a better understanding to our homeland, the Earth. They are also in the view where a manned mission to Mars may retain the leadership of United State of America in international space technologies. However, by gaining great reputation through leading the technologies in the world, the budget should spend in a more suitable way for economic or technical growth. Although there are certainly good arguments to send manned flight to Mars, I believe that there are more benefits sending unmanned probes to explore the planet than spending a huge amount of money in sending the manned flight over there. The supporters argue that by sending manned flight to Mars, we gain a chance to understand the Earth better due to the similarity between Mars and Earth. Hence we can figure out ways to protect the environment on Earth by exploring the condition on Mars. But the unmanned probes in this century are advance enough to pursue accomplishment in exploring different planets such as discovering the evidence of water on Mars. There are plenty more unmanned missions which are more potential can be launched to advance our knowledge. The trip of manned flight to Mars may reduce many more budgets for the other space exploration which are more valuable as compared to the manned Mars trip. Rather than being a leader of the technologies, there are more important aspects to spend the money instead of investing a large part of the budgets in this costly and…...

Why We Should Recycle

...Why People Should Recycle I am not a big earth first person but I do believe in recycling because I work at a local recycling center and I think recycling is a good thing. In fact I think everyone should recycle to make the earth a better place as a whole. A few good reasons why recycling is a good this is, the more people recycle, the less room is filled in landfills. Also, when people recycle they are reusing materials, therefore saving resources. Another good reason is that when you recycle often times you get paid back the C.R.V. that you already paid for in the grocery store. If everyone recycled think of how much more space there would be in landfills across the world. There is only so much room on this earth and we are using a huge portion of it for our trash. Clearlake, California alone on a busy day can bring in 80,000 pounds of trash to the local dump. I know this because I work at the local dump in Mckinleyville. I also see a lot of people that throw away their recycling for the simple reason of being too lazy to sort it. I watch bag after of bag of plastic, aluminum, and glass get thrown into the bin which we haul straight to a landfill in Anderson, California. If everyone in Mckinleyville recycled there plastic, aluminum and glass they could save thousands of pounds a day from going to the landfill. I think people are not informed that waste is a big problem in this world. But in fact conservation is an issue, and resources and energy aren't too plentiful.......

Teachers and Why We Go to College

...the first teachers we have in our lives in most cases are our parents. They teach us to walk, to speak, and to have good manners before we reach "the real world." More than even the professional teachers that we have in school, parents are generally the most involved in the development and education of children. Almost for sure our parents are the best teachers at the beginning of our lives, which actually corresponds to the parents' role in nature. Parents are most committed and involved in teaching their children; they have a kind of instinct to sacrifice a part of themselves for the betterment of their children. They love us and have great patience while passing down their knowledge to us. They wish us a success and thus will not teach us bad things. And of course, implicit learning occurs when children unconsciously copy some of their parents' habits and styles of behavior. During the second stage of child development, adolescence, parents can still be in the best position to offer advice even though the children might not accept it. In this case, perhaps the child's friends would be the best teachers. Adolescents are notoriously rebellious in many cultures and may automatically reject any advice from their parents. My first marriage for instance, was solely a matter of doing the opposite when my parents tried to intrude in offering their advice. So in such matters, parents should be much more flexible and be rather the partners with their children. So we can see that......

Should We Go Beyond the Law

...it comes to environmental regulation. In this case, we can assume that the company’s expenses before and too high due to some environmental regulations that they need to follow. 4. Development of Alternatives The company can stick to the initial plan which is to throw their waste into the river in order to survive in their financial crisis. The company can still pursue the number one alternative and at the same time they should develop a product later on which will be an alternative of not throwing their waste into the river and later on do a campaign on how they can revive the river. Since the cause of its pollution came from the company. . 5. Selection of Desired Alternative The company can go to the second alternative, since a lot of employees will lose their jobs if the company will not survive as a short-term solution they can pursue the idea of throwing the company waste into the river. Of course, the action of the company is not good per se but we need to give importance as well to the big number of employees that will be lay-off in case the company will not survive. Once the company was able to get back on track with their first move, the company should do the next move which is to develop a product which will be an alternative of not throwing the company’s waste into the river. Lastly the company should revive the river; the company can do a campaign......

Why Should We Write

...writing a poem, letter, song lyric, or a poem. In my past writing experiences, I have learned to grow as a writer like a small seed grows into a beautiful flower. A test we call TCAP was my first writing test. It was a short essay that we had been given which was required to be five paragraphs long. The worst part was the surprise topic; they would not tell us until right before starting to write and then expected us to write a good paper over an unknown topic. It is like giving a little kid a new toy without instructions. I thought it was very silly at the time, but now I realize that it showed me how to think creatively on the spot. Writing is a creative, mentally collective process done by most every day. It is a way to express the feelings of those who participate in this activity. As a writer myself, I use this as an escape or vacation from the issues of reality. When beginning writing your ideas, you must prepare and arrange as if you were preparing for a trip. Decide what might be needed by making a list of the things that that would properly prepare, as well as any extra items that may be useful later on. The extras may be needed if anything goes wrong. Next, the writing must start before it can end. Wrong turns may be taken, but there is always a way to get back on the correct road. Help should always welcome, especially if you get stuck or lost on the way. Double checking the path you have planned out makes the roads less complicated. Finally, the......

Why We Shoud Go to Mars

...Why We Should Go to Mars Kenneth C. Brown II Why We Should Go to Mars Richard, an author for the website GOVTEEN Global Community, wrote an article briefly explaining why we as a nation, should not go to Mars. Some of the key points of his argument against going to Mars stressed that the financial cost would be too high, it would require several new spacecraft and ground habitats, and several new technologies that currently do not exist. He also was concerned about the budget cuts that have already stripped the National Aeronautical Space Administration (NASA) to a shell of what the space program used to be. He also stressed that we are still in an armed conflict that has put a strain on our nation, economically and emotionally. Richard's points are solid and very good. I agree with him mostly. However, I feel that for most of the points he states is actual the reason we should go to Mars. In the 1960's and early 1970's America was in heavily entrenched in the Vietnam War, the American people were divided, with a large potion severely frustrated with their government. The nation was also still suffering from racism, the assassinations of Martin Luther King Jr, President Kennedy and his brother Robert Kennedy. The Nation needed a positive focal point, a beacon to turn to remind them that even in those dark times there was something in their nation to rally behind, and lift their spirits. NASA became that beacon. The 1960's and 1970's saw the space program......

Why Should We Preserve Hisrory

...Why should we preserve history? We should preserve history for several reasons. The first reason is because we will learn from the mistakes people made in the past and try not to repeat them. The second reason is so we will understand civilizations got to where we are today. The third reason is to learn about what causes conflicts and wars so we can help identify when they might be occurring. We should preserve history so we don’t make the same mistakes we did in the past. Things would not reoccur in the future if we knew what happened in history we would know how to prevent things from happening again. We would see signs that happened in the past and we will know how to keep more things from happening. More wars have and will be prevented because of history, inventions will be improved, and sickness will be cured because we know what happens if you do a certain thing. The next reason is so we will know how civilizations got to where we are today. If we didn’t have history we would not know what works best for civilizations. History helps us learn how laws we created; if we did not have laws the world would be chaos. Laws are sometimes based on religion. Religions are also very important in history. Religion is what a human believes how they got here, why they are here, and where they are going. Everyone has a religion whether you admit it or not, every civilization has one or many dominate religion like Americas dominate religion is Christianity. The last reason is to...

Why We Should Regulate Doping in Sports

...athletic achievement. As such, we cannot induct them into our temples of grand sportsmen, nor can we consider them the best sportsmen in a corrupted era (Rozansky). I would agree with most of what Rozansky said, if sports were only about competing to see who's the best. Perhaps that’s all it is to the spectators, but for the competitors it's a lot more. A professional athletes sport is their livelihood, their job, and if they can't be the best or come close, that means these sportsmen don't get to be a media star, and no media time means they no longer get sponsors that support them and their families and give them a next season. And in cycling you don’t even stand a chance to be triumphant if you are not doping. Doping is or was widespread. Of 21 podium finishers in the Tour de France for the period 1999-2005, 20 of them have been directly linked to doping. Many others have gotten away with it too. Estimates vary but go up to implication that 90% of riders were doping with EPO (Erythropoietin, a hormone produced by the kidney that promotes the formation of red blood cells in the bone marrow) at that time. When the EPO test was first made, it was tested on 102 urine samples from the 1998 Tour de France, with 28 found to be at levels that were above the regular range(Smith). EPO has a short range of detectability, so it is not certain that this test would have caught all users. In Rozansky's article he also states that steroids are dangerous. "We don’t want our athletes......

Why I Should Go to Esl273

...Why should I move onto ESL 273 It is often said that it is the first step that is troublesome. I admit that I had many troubles at the beginning of this course. However, everything had changed. I am not longer a girl who doesn’t even know how to write a coherent and logical essay; I am a girl who can organize my essay sufficiently and express the central idea of my essay clearly. My organization of the essay used to be weak, but I was never willing to give up. After writing and practicing several essays, I feel that I had made great progress in the writing. For instance, I am able to use transitional sentences in my essays so that they will be more organized. Also, I had learned how to arrange my essay in order to make each of the paragraphs to be connected. On the other hand, I see the organization as the most important part of the writing. People may misunderstand my ideas that I want to show them because my organization is messy. Therefore, I spend time to reading and learning how to organize the essays. As a result, I am able to separate my essay orderly. Since I could dominate these basic writing skills, I have been confident to take next challenge course. Grammar, is the weakest part of my writing, cause I to lose points for essay. To be honest, I felt very uncomfortable and nervous when I was writing. Although I wrote some simple sentences, I still made many mistakes. For example, I always forgot to add “s” after a verb for the third person. I used to read some......

Why We Should All Become Vegetarians

...WHY WE SHOULD ALL BECOME VEGETARIANS In the United States, more and more people are becoming aware of the benefits of becoming a vegetarian. The reasons why people decide to follow a vegetarian diet may vary, but the most common ones are the following: concern to personal health, compassion for animals, and conservation of the environment. For years, meat consumption has been linked to the developing diseases like hypertension, heart disease, diabetes and some forms of cancer. Most meats contain high levels of saturated fat which raises the blood level of bad cholesterol. Many animals in farm factories become sick with influenza, pneumonia, mad cow and other diseases, increasing the chances of transmission to humans. In contrast, medical experts agree that a vegetarian diet can provide all the necessary nutrients for humans if planned correctly. Since a plant-based diet is low in saturated fat, vegetarians are less likely to become sick or obese. Researches have shown that vegetarians are 50 percent less likely to develop heart disease. Studies have shown that vegetarian live an average of 6 to 10 years longer compared to those who eat meat. Another reason for becoming a vegetarian is the compassion for animals. Cows, chickens, turkeys, and other animals are massive raised at farm factories for the production of meat. Any cruelty law that would be illegal if it was inflicted on dogs or cats does not protect such animals. The great majority of these animals spend......

Why We Should Stop Using Our Cellphones

...everywhere with me – it’s basically an extension of my hand. Without my phone, I feel incomplete… and no, I’m not being dramatic. So, I get it. I get that we all want to spend a lot of time on our cell phones because we can do awesome things on them. We can be in constant contact with anyone, we can keep tabs on all the Facebook statuses, we can secretly play games and make it look like we’re doing something important, we can ogle Instagram pictures and tweet everything. That’s all great. But there are times when we need to put our cell phones down. Did you hear me? Stop looking at your screen! Put your cell phones down. One time when we really need to stash those cell phones away? When we’re hanging out with our friends and/or family members. I have a few friends who insist on using their phones no matter where we are or what we’re talking about. One friend in particular is obsessed with her phone. She is constantly on her phone. She’ll be sitting in a room full of all of our friends and she’ll still have her cell phone out, texting, tweeting, checking out Facebook, doing I don’t even know what. My friend has been like this with her cell for a while now, but recently, it’s really started to bug me. A few weeks ago, a bunch of us were hanging out when it started snowing. We all ran out to play in the snow like little kids. As we ran around laughing, my friend literally stood there doing things on her phone. She missed out on our super fun hang-out sesh in the snow......

Why Should We Study Spanish?

...If you live in the United States, you must have rarely or even never thought about studying foreign languages. Indeed, why would you? English is spoken in both Americas (mostly), Europe, Slavic countries, and even India; only China, Japan, and some other far east countries have problems with the English language. However, being able to speak a foreign language – at least one – nowadays is becoming a necessity. Spanish, among all other foreign languages, seems to be the most necessary for the United States, and every U.S. student should know it. Why? For the United States, Spanish is not a foreign language anymore. With a regular flow of new immigrants from South America, as well as with the extensive growth of a Spanish-speaking population, which is large already, Spanish is rapidly becoming the second most used language in the United States in terms of the amount of speakers. According to a Pew Research Center report, an estimated 37.6 million people in the U.S. speak Spanish as their first language; in 2060, analysts predict the United States will have 128.8 million people for whom Spanish is their native language, thus turning the country into the world’s largest Spanish-speaking country (Businessinsider.com). Considering all this, Caucasian, African American, and Asian students (and actually people of all ages) might want to be able to improve communications with such an enormous group of people; soon enough, it will be a regular situation when in some public places,......

Why Should We Care About Child Labor?

...Why should we care about child labor? The education, labor market, and health consequences of child labor Contribution/Findings: The article's main purpose was to figure out the correlation between children of the ages 8 to 13 who worked and how it affected education, health and wage earnings. Also they tried to find a correlation between the price of rice to the amount of child labor. They did two studies one for the years 1992 to 1993 and then for the years 1997 and 1998. The article also mentions findings from several other studies. I found the article enlightening and intriguing especially how they categorize child labor. We look at it so negatively in the state this article really opened my eyes to a different look on what child labor is in smaller undeveloped countries. They included children's chores or those kids who worked on family farms or other family owned businesses not just what we see in sweatshops and things of that nature. The findings and results are clearly listed and presented well in this article. Which they do do several charts with their breakdowns. However, while the information was clearly there it was a tad bit difficult to understand. It seems like several numbers were just thrown around and it wasn't broken down into layman's terms. As well as they have pretty complicated formulas that weren't very well explained as to what each variable stood for. Which made it a little bit harder for me to understand and get a good grasp of the......

Why We Should Have Longer School Days

...Longer School Days: A Multi-Beneficial Idea When people think of America, some think of our “greatness”, or how America is one of the “superpower” nations. They may think of our huge military strength, or the vast amount of unique cities we have scattered around this widespread country. But what do people think about our education system? Unfortunately, many individuals are unaware of the decline that our education system has suffered. For instance, Geoffrey Canada, president of the Harlem children’s zone, an organization whose goal is to increase graduation among students, says that many schools in the area don’t even have enough time to cover the entire curriculum during the day. This is just one of the many problems with America’s education system that needs to be fixed. It is especially concerning for the future generation, as they will have to compete with a global economy in where other countries such as Japan are advancing much more than America is in terms of education and innovation. Therefore, because America’s education system is in a rut from things like low test scores to high dropout rates, adding longer school days will be both beneficial to not only the system, but also to the parents, students and teachers. Extending the school day length will give low income students more academic opportunities while keeping them out of trouble, allow ESL (English as a second language) students to adjust comfortably to the school environment, give all students regardless of...

Why We Should Institute Military Draft

...I never thought I would say this but I think we should reinstate the draft. It has been years since we have wanted or needed a draft, but in view of the United States being attacked on September 11, 2001, I feel our country must be ready and prepared to defend itself. If being prepared means reinstating the draft, a mandatory summons for military service, then I think we should consider this a reasonable proposal. I think the tragic events of September 11 will evoke most people to agree with me. Since September 11 we have seen a surge of patriotism in this country that seemed hidden for many years. I am so glad patriotism was not lost, and I think most Americans would be willing to defend their country in light of this attack. We are a nation and a people who believe in freedom and democracy. It tells other nations who we are and what we stand for. It is these beliefs that lead me to believe that the people of the United States will do anything to preserve our freedom and democracy even if it means reinstating the draft. I want to prove this notion, but am unsure how to accomplish this. I have not read any recent articles in newspapers or magazines that have dealt with this issue. My textbook was not a source either. So I decided to do two things. First, I went to the Internet for any information, articles, discussions, or statements relating to this issue. Second, I decided to conduct an informal poll. This informal poll consisted of male and female respondents with an age......

Why Should We Eat Healthy and Do Exercise?

...Introduction Eating healthy and exercising should be a part of every person’s day to day routine. However, these two phrases mean different things to different people. It is common for Canadian adults to eat fast food, such as McDonald’s, and not exercise; which is why one of the leading causes of death in Canada is from Cardiovascular Disease. Modern day information assists in helping Canadians learn more about what types of food will supply the most energy to their bodies and what kind of exercise is beneficial for everyone’s lifestyle. “Why Should We Eat Healthy & Exercise?” explains why food and exercising is so important for everyone and what the gains and losses can become a part of one’s life. Importance of Exercise According to Stats Canada, the total amount of adults that are moderately active is 24 percent and only 20 percent of adults are active. More than half of the adult population (56 percent) is inactive which again, could potentially be the reason that the major causes of deaths in Canada are because of disease and cancer (Hales & Lauzon, 2008, p75). As important as physical exercise is for loosing excess weight and feeling good it is also extremely important long and healthy life. Major benefits from exercising include: heart muscles becoming stronger and the blood in your body is pumped more efficiently; heart rate and resting rate slow down; blood pressure may drop slightly; bones thicken and loss of calcium slows;......
