How to Get a Tattoo You Won't Regret

...How to Get a Tattoo That You Won’t Regret Introduction * I will give some statistics about the number of tattooed adults in the United States and say something about how people aren’t taught about tattoos. * “According to Science News, 21% of Americans have a tattoo – That’s more than one in five.” Goal * There is so much stuff about tattoos that I wanted to cover but couldn’t because of the time limit. So, I’m focusing on the most important things to think about when getting a tattoo. Thesis * When getting a tattoo, it is important to consider tattoo placement, select the proper artist/shop, and observe “tattoo etiquette.” Body 1. Tattoo placement is important to consider. * You must decide where you want to get your tattoo. * Pain is not the most important thing to think about when considering tattoo placement. * I will discuss the “no future club” with the appropriate visual aid. Transition * I’ll say something like “The next thing to think about is selecting the right artist/shop.” 2. You must pick a tattoo artist and tattoo shop. * Someone should pick their tattoo artist based on the artist’s reputation and style specialization. * I will discuss why it is important to view getting a tattoo as establishing a relationship with an artist and not as a one time thing. * An artist will be more inspired/creative if you get a tattoo style they specialize in. * You should get tattooed at a reputable tattoo......

So What If You Got Fired?

...You got Fired? So What You've just received word that you've been fired. Or perhaps the company has gone through a re-structuring and eliminated your job — and you've been told that none of the managers you've worked with over the years have a position for you on their team. This comes as a shock to your system, especially if you've enjoyed a record of success up to this point in your career. While there are some practical things to attend to — negotiating your severance, signing up references, and agreeing with the company on a storyline about the reason for your exit — your most important action item is managing your own attitude to the situation. Your first step is realizing that you're not alone. Although they don't trumpet the fact for obvious reasons, most successful senior executives have hit speed bumps in the course of their careers. As search consultants will tell you, experiencing a setback doesn't have to be terminal — if you're able to move forward productively. As you dust yourself off, think through those parts of the situation you need to own. In a highly emotional state, it's too easy for you to curse the darkness: "I had a bad boss." "The place was rife with organizational politics." "My colleagues were non-cooperative and had it in for me." There may be some truth to this, but you also need to ask yourself, "What do I need to accept about the experience to avoid making the same mistakes so I can succeed in the future?" Even in the best of times...

You Are What You Buy

...When purchasing a product there is a number of factors that influence a consumers decision on what product or service they purchase. Two of these factors is the actual self-concept and ideal self-concept. The actual self-concept is defined as the individuals belief about himself, which includes the person’s attributes and how they evaluate themselves. The ideal self-concept is how you would like to see yourself. When consumers purchase products they are often purchasing the product to enhance how they feel about themselves as well as get closer to their ideal self. My most recent important purchase was a car in September. I purchased a 2012 GMC Terrain with some special features. The GMC is a mid size SUV that is known to have one of best gas mileage for its type. My choice of an SUV was mainly based on the fact that I like bigger cars because I travel a lot with large items (bowling balls) and I like to sit up higher in a car so I can see everything. Most of the time, SUV drivers are described as people who like to feel in control, which is a lot of the times what I like to do. I often take control of situations because that it is personality. The purchase of a newer also indicates that I want to have a sense of pride and a feeling of accomplishment because I purchased a brand new car. This explanation would be an example of how I tried to enhance my ideal self-concept of being someone who looks accomplished. I also chose the vehicle based on needs. My old car......

Why Are You Here

...Why Are You Here? After I graduated high school I always knew I wanted to pursue a higher education but I never knew where or for what. So I took some time off about an 8-½ year hiatus from academics and joined the Army. I traveled the world seen amazing things and met a lot of amazing people whom I now consider my extended family. When my contract was up with the Army I decided to go back to college. I didn’t know in what or what for but I knew I wanted to go. So I had some thinking to do as in where I wanted to attend. Ocean County College became the number one choice for three deciding factors: location, class size and flexibility. I am a native of Toms River and I am very familiar with the area so when I decided to go back to school location was a major deciding factor. First being from the area I am well aware of all traffic patterns within the surrounding area, which is a plus, and I don’t have to adjust to new traffic patterns in unfamiliar territory. Second parking at OCC’s main campus is not the best but it is not bad either. They have ample areas to park and there is not a shortage in parking spots which would usually be a problem if I was attending a University or State College in a heavy populated city for example Seton Hall or NYU just to name a few. Lastly I only live 10 minutes from campus a very short drive, which make it very convenient if I’m rushing around town and have a study group or class within a certain time while I am out trying to accomplish......

You Are What You Eat

...You Are What You Eat Linand Blanc Professor Pamella Robinson Principles of Sociology 7/30/2011   Abstract Some may think that carrots and brown rice are healthy eating habits here in the United States. However there are some places in the world including the US where toasted insects, roasted cat and dogs, and even raw monkey brains are a delicacy. Whether you yourself would eat these types of food or not, we know that humans have been consuming cats dogs and yes even monkeys for decades. But my question is why did they find the need to eat these types of meats? Were beef, chicken, fish and pork not enough? Or maybe we’re the ones who don’t know what delicacy eating really is. Maybe we shouldn’t have such a closed mind to eating cats and dogs. Maybe by the end of this week I will be one that becomes an Entomophily.   The Holy Bible goes into great details on what we can and cannot eat. The dietary laws prohibit eating pork, shrimp, and shellfish of any kind, most insects, scavenger birds, and various types of other animals. (Leviticus chapter 11) Although the Bible doesn’t say anything about the domestic animals such as cats and dogs but many religions consider the consumption of these animals to be taboo. In some parts of the word others have resorted to eating felines and k-9’s in desperation during hard times and poverty, and others believe that eating them will bring good luck or good health. Cats and Dogs In North China eating cats is......

So why did I drop out? 我在Reed大学读了六个月之后就退学了,但是在十八个月以后——我真正的作出退 学决定之前,我还经常去学校。我为什么要退学呢? It started before I was born. My biological mother was a young, unwed college graduate student, and she decided to put me up for adoption. She felt very strongly that I should be adopted by college graduates, so everything was all set for me to be adopted at birth by a lawyer and his wife. You Are What You Eat

...ENGL 111-A Essay 5 – Persuasion You Are What You Eat Did you know that there are twenty-one ingredients in that box of macaroni and cheese you are feeding your children? What is sodium tripolyphosphate? Can you pronounce it? Think about it, do you really know what you are feeding your children every day? Unfortunately, most of us do not. We all want to feed our families wholesome, nutritious meals, but in today’s busy world it seems almost impossible. Our grocery stores shelves are filled with food that is full of chemicals, pesticides, and refined sugars, but do not have much nutritional value. As a society we have got to start making smarter food choices. Obesity and diabetes have become an epidemic in this country due to the lack of proper nutrition. As working mothers, we have to get food on the table fast. Often, we have very little money to do it with so we buy what we can afford. This often means we end up feeding our family packaged and processed foods. Our children and our families are seeing the consequences of this in their health and weight. We need to stop thinking that it is too hard and too expensive to eat well, and get creative and persistent with teaching our children health eating habits while they are young. One half of school age children who are currently obese will still be obese when they become adults. (Serdula M. K.) Today, one out of every three Americans is considered to be obese. (mayoclinic.com) Obesity is quickly......

What Got You Here Won’t Get You There

...What Got You Here Won’t Get You There I knew of Marshall’s coaching work from the executives I speak to. He has an excellent reputation. When I saw his book at the airport, I had to pick it up. It’s well done and well worth the read. Fact is, every one of us has our weak points. We can learn about them from character assessments, skill testing, business results, and feedback from colleagues, customers, and friends. Somebody like me knows I get bored easily and have a low attention to detail. The essence of Marshall’s message is that if we don’t address these weak points, they can affect our career. Marshall’s emphasis is in communication. There is very little in this book about time management, systems control, delegation techniques and other tools that can help make us more efficient. This book is about the soft side and what you can do about it. Marshall’s approach reminds me of a twelve-step program. First you have to admit you have a problem, then you have to apologize to those you’ve impacted with your problem, and then you have to declare your intention to do something about it, and ultimately, reach into a higher power source. For Marshall, this higher power source is coaching and support from friends. Marshall tells us that successful people believe they have succeeded, can succeed, will succeed, and will choose to succeed. Marshall states the only natural law he’s witnessed in three decades of observing success is this: “People will do......

You Are What You Eat

...You are what you eat Strayer University Author Note Abstract As a child when asked what I wanted to be when I grew up the first thing that I would say was, ‘a biologist’ not because it was the only big word that I knew at 8 years old it was because I knew that biologist got to study the very thing that I loved. ‘Life’ and ‘nature’. You are what you eat Imagine if you became the very thing that you ate. If your cells mutated into the cells of the very thing that you consumed. I would say that there would be a lot half-human half-beast walking around, if not already. THE SEA SLUG THAT BECAME A PLANT In a recent article published Sidney K. Pierce she shows her findings of how the emerald green sea slug lives months at a time by feeding on the sunlight, similar to a plant, (Photosynthesis) the article clarifies how the sea slug (Elysia chlorotica) absorbs the genes of the algae (Vaucheria litorea) that it eats, thus turning the slug into the very algae that it eats. The slug (Elysia chlorotica) manages to live for months by utilizing photosynthesis. To do this the slug stores the chloroplasts from the algae that it feeds on and by doing so, initiates a gene transfer; from one multicellular species to another. A new find for scientist. If not amazing enough that the slug can steal and store the chloroplast from the food that it eats it even goes as far as boosting the usefulness of the chloroplast 10 times longer than the algae that it adsorbed it from could......

You Are What You Think

...You are what you think The truth about life is the truth about ourselves. If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the results of a hundred battles. In life, we go through many battles, not necessarily the real ones, but the battles with our own problems and others around us. Here we will see a little how to have strength, know ourselves better and then apply the knowledge to life. It is really important to know ourselves, to know how we will react to the challenges we face, and to have a good image of ourselves, since we are what we think. First, it is important that we have a good example to look up to and learn with. We will talk about heroes as they are a good example. A hero is a person who does something special, or out of the ordinary in order to help others. It could also be someone who is admired for a characteristic about them, be it physical or mental. They are individuals that normal everyday people can look up to. This being the case, a superhero is nothing more than someone who helps many people. We have always looked up to our heroes. Some of us become heroes and that is thanks to the strength we take from them. They are great examples for kids and grownups. The humanity should keep taking the good things heroes have to share with us, and apply them in our lives. Second, “Having control of yourself”, is very important. Then we know how to control ourselves, our fears, and our excitement. We shouldn’t be blocked from doing something...

Who Are You and What Are You Doing Here?

...Paula De Los Reyes Ms. Nguyen English 1301 Sept 26, 2015 Who Are You and What Are You Doing Here?              In this literary piece “Who Are You and What Are You Doing Here?” by Dr. Mark Edmundson published on the 74th issue of The Oxford American Magazine, many compelling points are taken into account to describe his view on education.  He starts off by commending his main target audience – the incoming students as they take on a new adventure and map out their educational path during the early stages of college.  He launches on his concept that university education is not solely a stepping stone towards an established profession, rather an arena in which we work on those philosophical questions such as ‘Who are you?’ and ‘What are you doing here?’  in order to eschew the wrong course of life.  Edmundson also challenges the audience to analyze what college education really offers to them, arguing that the sole purpose of the subject should be self-fulfillment and not just to cultivate knowledge but more importantly to defy the standards and morals it presents to them. He advocates that we should live a more purposeful life by pursuing what we desire the most to obtain spiritual fulfillment rather than monetary. The author promulgates a variety of propositions on the subject but mainly, his key objective is to intensify the mindset of college students in order to define the true significance of higher learning. Today’s education is evolving frantically and......

You Are What You Eat

... ‘You are what you eat’. You are what you eat.   For some people this phrase sounds pretty ridiculous, but the truth is, what we put into our body will affect us in many ways.   Food is something that can’t only be something that tastes good.   It needs to be something that doesn’t hurt your body.   There are so many benefits to eating healthy.   For example, it can give you more energy throughout the day.   Studies show that something like a bowl of oatmeal is one of the best ways to start of your morning.   Eating healthy can also make you stronger physically.   Putting the right food in your body can do as much as burning off fats.   Overall, it keeps your body at its best and can help you move forward at your best. I believe the speech was spoken really well it motivates and inspires everyone to do good in their life. Steve Jobs shared three personal ideas at Stanford University which lead him to success. Getting fired from apple made him realize what he loved and he did not wanted to give up. This motivates me to do what I love to do and never give up. Steve Jobs shared three ideas which lead him to success but I am going to pick two which connected with me. ...and stories. Can you say the same? Maybe not, maybe yes. Either way it goes let's imagine it can together. I remember the first time I tried my grandmother's Rice pudding. The memory is still fresh on my mind. The rice was sticky and creamy, raisins were ripe and perky, and the smell of the cinnamon indulged my senses, with each and every waking bite the pudding did a tantalizing salsa dance on my tongue that I will never forget. The very next day I asked my grandma can she teach me how to make her rice pudding, at first she was reluctant but eventually she gave in. The most important lesson that my grandma taught me, was in order to make this pudding successful, the rice had to be just right (no Uncle Ben's) this was drilled in my head over a dozen one times, no excuses. "Today as I stand over a bowl of cold water and rice, scrubbing, (Dash, 140) I felt a strong presence watching over me just like Dash felt when her Aunt Gertie was watching over her. So if I was to make a mistake today it better be on an ingredient and not the rice. I wasn't always a picky eater not until I got older and was able to pick and choose what kind of food went into my mouth. As a little girl my mother used to make collard greens with ham hocks boy did I love to eat! I was always first in line.
