However, there is a positive aspect to stereotypes, like the chance to receiving a better job, education, or other positive opportunities. For example, one racial stereotype that may help a race, would be that all Asians are smart. If this is a stereotype that people hold while interviewing someone, then the Asian person who interviewed may have a better chance at getting the job than someone else.…...

...Week 1 assignment 9.4 Business Ethics Loren Vranich, a doctor practicing under the corporate name Family Health Care, P.C., entered into a written employment contract to hire Dennis Winkel. The contract provided for an annual salary, insurance benefits, and other employment benefits. Another doctor, Dr. Quan, also practiced with Dr. Vranich. About nine months later, when Dr. Quan left the practice, Vranich and Winkel entered into an oral modification of their written contract whereby Winkel was to receive a higher salary and a profit-sharing bonus. During the next year, Winkel received the increased salary. However, a disagreement arose, and Winkel sued to recover the profit-sharing bonus. Under Montana law, a written contract can be altered only in writing or by an executed oral agreement. Dr. Vranich argued that the contract could not be enforced because it was not in writing. Does Winkel receive the profit-sharing bonus? Did Dr. Vranich act ethically in raising the defense that the contract was not in writing? Winkel v. ...Assignment One, week One COM/156 July 24, 2011 Lisa Acerbo Assignment One, week One When writing a research paper, there can be some challenges to overcome. My first thought is what challenge do I have and need to overcome in order to write a great paper. The first challenge is keeping the readers interest and attention. It is very important to keep your readers interested in your writings and it can be hard trying to read something that you are unable to keep your attention on. Keeping the information of my writings to the research and subject will help this challenge. Another challenge can be determining an appropriate style and tone for my paper. Being consistent with my ideas in my style and tone, will keep the paper flowing with information and the reader will be able to understand the point I am trying to make. The third challenge is being persuasive enough in my writings and research papers. Also, being able to put my thinking and research into words and get my point across, but also integrate enough material from my sources to keep the paper persuasive and catch the reader’s attention will provide the needed steps to a great research paper. When writing my research papers, the strategies I want to utilize for my challenges are: finding an interesting subject to do my research on, and utilize as much information I can to write an interesting paper. By using as many resources I can, will insure that I have plenty of information to include in my...

...Running head: LEADERSHIP APPROACH Leadership Approach University of Phoenix Leadership Approach Countless managers work tirelessly each day to help create thriving and dynamic organizations. Some of these managers possess unparalleled leadership qualities while others lack the knowledge and appropriate people skills to motivate and empower employees. Managers and Leaders have varying definitions. A manager can be effective without leadership qualities and a leader can be effective without management skills. However, in chapter one of Organizational Leadership, Yukl (2010) states, “defining managing and leading as distinct roles, processes, or relationships may obscure more than it reveals if it encourages simplistic theories about effective leadership (p. 8). The following paper provides an overview to the leadership approach of behavior as well as provides a description of the strengths and weaknesses of this approach. Behavior Approach The Behavior Approach began in the early 1950s after researchers declared the Trait Approach as being an ineffective means for identifying positive leadership qualities (Yukl, 2010). Researchers believed the key to successful leadership included the positive behaviors management displayed while on the job. Additionally, management stated behavior research falls into two general subcategories: (1) how managers spend their time and the typical patterns of activities, responsibilities and the functions for managerial jobs and......

... Week One Discussion Questions How have demographic changes and cultural values influenced the evolution of health care delivery systems in the United States? As stated by the Brookings web site, the U.S. health care system faces significant challenges that clearly indicate the urgent need for reform. Attention has rightly focused on the approximately 46 million Americans who are uninsured, and on the many insured Americans who face rapid increases in premiums and out-of-pocket costs. As Congress and the Obama administration consider ways to invest new funds to reduce the number of Americans without insurance coverage, we must simultaneously address shortfalls in the quality and efficiency of care that lead to higher costs and to poor health outcomes. To do otherwise casts doubt on the feasibility and sustainability of coverage expansions and also ensures that our current health care system will continue to have large gaps — even for those with access to insurance coverage. Does the United States currently use a medical model or a wellness model or both? Briefly explain your position. What factors have led to using these models? The United States use both medical model and a wellness model. The medical model addresses the care between the patient-doctor interaction. The wellness model is more about the patient because it considers Six Dimensions of wellness: Emotional Dimension, Occupational Dimension, Physical Dimension, Social Dimension,......

Week One Weekly Reflection

...Explain how a job analysis is used to create a job description. 2.2 Explain the functions of a job description. This week I was very comfortable with our two main objectives; of how the process of job analysis is used to create a job description and the functions of any job description. Basically the outcome of any job analysis process is the job description; as the second one is a vital tool in the hand of decision makers to give the position to the right candidate or determine compensation for example. Job description refers to the required tasks, knowledge, skills, abilities, and reporting structure required for jobs. The description of the job contains many important elements such as (the position title, summery of the position, essential duties and responsibilities…etc.). Our chapter mentioned something coat my eyes to describe the importance of job analysis stating; “Jobs are important to individuals: They help determine standards of living, places of residence, status (value ascribed to individuals because of their position), and even a personal sense of self-worth. Jobs are important to organizations because they are the vehicles through which work (and thus organizational objectives) is accomplished.”  (Wayne F. Cascio, 2010, p. 162). According to this paragraph when HR conducts the process of job analysis they are actually contributing to the success of their organization. This process can be defined as the “ systematic study of jobs to determine......
