Traffic Modeling

Figure 1 shows the intersections of five one-way streets and the number of cars that enter each intersection from both directions. For example, I1 shows that 400 cars per hour enter from the top and that 450 cars per hour enter from the left. See the Applications section in Section 6.2 of College Algebra as a reference.

For this assignment, use Figure 1 to answer the questions following the figure and to prepare a Microsoft® PowerPoint® presentation.

Figure 1. The intersections of five one-way streets

The letters a, b, c, d, e, f, and g represent the number of cars moving between the intersections. To keep the traffic moving smoothly, the number of cars entering the intersection per hour must equal the number of cars leaving per hour.

1. Describe the situation.
2. Create a system of linear equations using a, b, c, d, e, f, and g that models continually flowing traffic.
3. Solve the system of equations. Variables f and g should turn out to be independent.
4. Answer the following questions:

a. List acceptable traffic flows for two different values of the independent variables.
b. The traffic flow on Maple Street between I5 and I6 must be greater than what value to keep traffic moving?
c. If g = 100, what is the maximum value for f?
d. If g = 100, the flows represented by b, c, and d must be greater than what values? In this situation, what are the minimum values for a and e?
e. This model has five one-way streets. What would happen if the model had five two-way…...

...Traffic Modeling Paper Concepts of math can be displayed and solved in many different ways. There are equations, graphs, and word problems and several concepts that can be used as examples to help solve mathematical issues. In week four of this College Algebra class Learning Team B was present with an assignment involving a traffic model. The traffic model is the key to helping Learning Team B solve the problems the assignment presents. The traffic model represents a number of cars within the area at any given time represented by letters. Learning team B must solve questions based on this model. There are several equations that were made in order to prove that the numbers of cars entering and leaving each intersection must be equal to keep traffic moving smoothly. Variables f and g are independent variables. This means that variables a through e are dependent on variables f and g. The number of cars at intersection a depends on how many cars turn from intersection f. The number of cars at intersection b depends on how many cars turn right from intersections f and g. This tells you that there are infinitely many solutions since the number of cars that turn onto Elm from Oak, Pine, and Aspen vary. Similarly the number of cars that turn onto Maple from Oak, Pine, and Aspen also vary. To list two acceptable traffic flows first let variable f be equal to 365 cars/hr and let variable g be equal to 400 cars/hr. Variable a would be equal to 850-365, which equals 485 cars/hr.......

An officer's responsibility to conduct a motor vehicle collision investigation begins at the time he or she is directed to the collision scene. It is at that precise moment that the officer should begin to obtain as much information as it is available from the radio operator, such as type of collision, location, extent of injuries, traffic condition, etc1.then the officer should at the set speed for the department procedures of running code to a scene proceed to and secure the scene. If medical attention is needed, the officer will call it in, but assuming that there is no such need, the officer’s first job is to. But he should take a few quick photos of the crash site with them untouched. Then move the cars......

Traffic

...Background: Traffic congestion is not a new problem. The number of automobiles and trucks have been increased during the last few decades after the car boom period. So there was an urgent need for constructing more highways and bridges , improving traffic-signal controllers, making changeable highway signs, rerouting rush hour traffic, creating traffic-control centers that monitor and display the overall traffic conditions, using preplanned alternative traffic solutions based on repeated daily traffic patterns, etc. However, some strict financial sanctions or fines must be applied to eliminate the problem of traffic jam. For Jeddah city, the streets are overcrowded with cars and people. At the same time, the airports are welcoming a large number of newcomers all over the world every day. Moreover, the number of roads and bridges is not sufficient to the increasing number of vehicles. In addition, in Jeddah there are approximately four million people both Saudis and expatriates who use over one million vehicles to move around the city. We also expect more. Causes of traffic congestion inside the cities Saudi Arabia is a modern Country, but it also has a modern and serious problem. Every day in the morning and evening, the roads and streets are so crowded with cars, taxis, buses and trucks. In this part will mention the causes of traffic congestion in Saudi Arabia’s major cities. In the next lines, we will speak about the several reasons for traffic problems in......

...Influence of Visual Media Paper Carolyn R. Slaughter HUM/176 October 6, 2013 Dr. Steven H. Mathew Influence of Visual Media Paper What would this world be without the influence of visual media? People want to see what is going on in the world around them. In the United States people want to watch TV and it has a great influence on culture experiences. People want to keep up with the latest celebrity gossip, and political pros and cons. In today’s society visual media is used in new ways, at one time people were only able to watch TV in their homes, now it’s available on digital televisions, DVD, smartphones, tablets, and computers. At one time there were only three major broadcasting networks available (ABC, NBC, and CBS) for viewing primetime movies and shows in America. These networks would appeal to a general family audience. (Lule, 2012) Visual media is an important aspect in many people lives; it provides entertainment for many people. The entertainment media has shaped the American culture and its values in many different ways. Today the young as well as the old try to mimic what they see celebrities do. If Miley Cyrus Twerked on a YouTube video, and her fans went insane over the video, now the young people who are her fans wants to do the Twerk dance in spite of how ridiculous some may view it as being. Parent have to preview the content their children are watching on TV whether it be in movies, videos, or music. After viewing the video on YouTube it is easy...

...An Application Involving Traffic Modeling According to Blitzer (2009), checkpoint four "shows a system of four one-way streets" (p. 573). The numbers in the figure denote the number of cars per minute that travel in the direction shown. a. Use the requirement that the number of cars entering each of the intersections per minute must equal the number of cars leaving per minute to set up a system of equations in w, x, y, and z. For Intersection I1: Because 5+10=15 cars enter and w+z cars leave the intersection I1, then w+z=15. For Intersection I2: Because w+x cars enter the intersection and 10+20=30 cars leave, then w+x=30. For Intersection I3: Because 15+30=45 cars enter the intersection and x+y cars leave, then x+y=45. For Intersection I4: Because y+z cars enter the intersection and 10+20=30 cars leave. traffic will keep flowing if y+z=30. Arrange the equations where the variables are on one side and the constants are on the other side of the equal sign. w+z=15 w+x=30 x+y=45 y+z=30 System of equations: w+z=15 w+x=30 x+y=45 y+z=30 b. ...responsible for this? Traffic Jam is that magician. Traffic jam has become a great monster in our modern life. Traffic jam has turned daily trips into nightmares. The business community inevitably suffers for the constant waste of its most precious resource of time. Others commuters complain of being stuck in jam for hours an end, while residents breathe in a lat more lead and almost 10 percent of its population seeks medical treatment each year for air pollution related respiratory illnesses. I. Drivers don’t comply with traffic rules. II. Allegations of police support to makeshift shops on footpaths and street sidelines and illegal automobile and rickshaw parking, which occupy more than a third of the streets. III. Some police officers are busy for extracting money for allowing illegal parking. IV. Lack of automatic traffic signals, slow-moving illegal rickshaws and rail crossings are also causing serious traffic jam. Many roads of Dhaka city are not spacious according to the necessity. As aresult, traffic jam occurs very now and then in the congested areas even of the highways. Overtaking tendency is another reason which causes traffic jam. Moreover, our traffic system is not so modern and the number of traffic police is insufficient. It is a matter of shame that some so-called politicians., student leaders and selfish persons also create traffic jam in order to fulfill their evil desires Rickshaws also reate traffic jam. Traffic

...Traffic has always been a problem when driving in a big city. There are many improvements that can be done to fix or lessen the amount of traffic throughout a city. Such things as wider roads (i.e. super highways), monorails, and even for some to re-take their driving tests. The use of monorails within a city as a means of public transportation would be a great way to get from point A to point B, without having to use a personal vehicle and therefore decreasing the amount of vehicles on the road. A downside to using a monorail is the cost. Currently the Bombardier MVI that is being used in Las Vegas, NV, costs $88 million per mile. Expensive yet effective. This would help cut down on the amount of stop and go traffic. Another helpful agenda that would reduce the flow of stop and go traffic is if each state were to issue a bill, stating that a driver after a certain age must retake their driving test. As stated by Moore, Peter in Front Page and Life, “Most Americans think that 75-year olds should have to re-sit their driving tests in order to keep on driving, while people also it’s about as difficult as it should be to get a license in the first place.” Can you think back to a time where you were on your way to say either a doctor’s appointment or running a tad bit late for work and you happen to get stuck behind a slow moving elderly person that clearly wasn’t even driving the speed limit? Having a set age limit by each state for the elderly to retake their driving test......

Answer the questions below, and type your answers in the “answer box.” Copy and paste the answer box into the discussion board forum titled “My Mother Never Worked.” If you are working with a partner or in a small group, type the full name of each group member into the subject line of your post. Answer Box 1. Answer question one under Purpose and Audience. Write the thesis IN YOUR OWN WORDS. I believe that the point that the writer is trying to prove is that her mother was a hard worker throughout her whole life who never once stopped working regardless of the circumstances or obstacles that she came across. I think that her thesis was never explicitly stated because the telephone conversation stated her thesis well. She stated her essay with the telephone conversation and in the pause between the response of the lady from the Social Security Office she goes back in time and gives a little background of all the jobs her mom had. The writer had a specific question and the lady had a solid answer. At the end of the passage the lady answered her question and gave her the news that she wasn’t eligible for death benefits because her mother never worked according to their records. In my opinion the thesis was in some way written throughout the whole essay when she was explaining all the jobs and task her mom actually had because at the end of the essay you don’t question the...

...Traffic is Fatal In the middle of Iglesia ni Cristo’s controversial rally along EDSA last week, one netizen tweeted about how his friend’s mother died because the ambulance cannot get through the heavy traffic on EDSA. This incident started when Jim Paredes tweeted: “If anyone dies in this traffic right now, or an ambulance can’t make it to the hospital, who will answer? Does anyone care?” Sadly, one netizen which is named as @badet_cardona on twitter replied and managed to make Paredes’ tweet to be reality. It was said that his mom’s friend, died at a hospital along Reliance EDSA. Supposedly, it will only take 15 minutes to go there but it took them 1 hour and 27 minutes to reach the hospital. They had to endure the mass rally that Iglesia ni Cristo was doing. And in order to just make it to the hospital, they had to ask favor to the rallyists to at least let them pass through but one woman from the rally replied, “So what?” This response made them so shocked and disappointed for someone who has a religion who strongly believes in God’s teaching and practices them. They also said that they do respect what INC is fighting for but they do have to consider what others are going through as well. In line with this, CNN Philippines also reported that emergency medical service have turned down over 50 requests for ambulances when it has to pass through EDSA. It was estimated that six people died in the past five days of INC rally. All of these tragedies is......
