1-How anti-Confederate Southerners determined the course/outcome of the civil war. Specific information was given by Freehlng to show how the anti-confederates southerners determined the course and outcome of the civil war. The information is discussed in the following paragraph. According to Freehling, the events beyond the battlefields partially determined military verdicts. Furthermore, home front and battlefront unveiled defining aspects of civil war. The division within the south also helped pave the path toward the war and also, the division among the southern and home front dissensions determined battlefield verdicts. The outcome of the war was the collapse of the confederacy that was caused by the defeat in the military sphere, rather than dissolution behind the lines. Anti-confederate southerners piled on psychological, economical and geographical burdens that ultimately helped flatten white confederate’s resiliency. President Abraham Lincoln’s statecraft, the union’s anaconda military strategy, northern democrats and English men’s attitudes seemingly tangential matters bore vitally on southern anti-confederates capacity to influence the battlefields and to illuminate important characteristics of civil war. The tale of the southern house divided, highlights under appreciated gems of civil war lore, including revealing code words, colorful luminaries, key battles and vital military orders, this tells why the war came. In conclusion, the anti-confederate southerners in so many ways that are discussed in the paragraph above determined the course/outcome of the civil war.

2-North had the resources to win the war but the South had specific advantages that made it difficult to do so The North which had more men, more materials more sophisticated weapons to military points of contacts were thought to defeat the less well endowed foe but…...

The small, mobile bands of Stone-Age hunter- gatherers, who created a wealth of rock art, were the ancestors of the Khoikhoi and San of historical times. The Khoikhoin and San (the "Hottentots" and "Bushmen" of early European terminology), although collectively known as the Khoisan, are often thought of as distinct peoples. The former were those who, some 2 000 years ago, adopted a pastoralist lifestyle herding sheep and, later, cattle. Whereas the hunter-gatherers adapted to local environments and were scattered across the subcontinent, the herders sought......

South vs. South

...April 27, 2013 South vs. the South One of the most controversial and bloodiest wars to have ever taken place was fought by a nation separated in two to decide the fate of slavery in America. The Union Army of the North would go on to win the war, but they didn’t do it alone. It took a great three-part strategy that relied heavily on southern citizens being loyal to the Union cause, Divisions that emerged before the war that helped shape the Union, and Anti-confederate groups who helped cripple the South, all playing a role in the Union’s victory in the Civil War. The Union Army’s strategy of the Civil War consisted of three parts and was very simple; but if all three were not completed, it would spell disaster for the North. The first part of the strategy was to capture and control all of the Confederate ports. Lincoln and his military planners saw they had naval superiority over the South due to the fact that the, “Northerners controlled almost all the nations largest warships” (Freehling 6). Realizing this, they knew they would be able to capture all of the confederate held ports, thus preventing the possibility of European aid to the south. The second part of the Union’s strategy was to cut off the Confederate Army from their supplies and reinforcements. This required the Union Army to take control of all major waterways like the Mississippi with their Ironclad ships to prevent General Lee from sending supplies and men to the Confederate held middle and lower southern......

...South Korea Raises $250 Million in Policy Bank Share Sale i) Summary: The South Korean government managed to sell down its stake in Industrial Bank of Korea by 4.2%. The sale raised around $250 million, which is double of what was originally expected. This sale is good news for the government of President Park Geun-hye because he has pledged to help individuals who are financially troubled as well as small businesses. This sale is expected to help secure budget revenue in addition to furthering stake sales in the following year. It also helps by releasing more liquidity into the market. In mid-2011, the government had failed at its attempt to lower the governments stake in IBK from 68.9% to 60.5%. In total, the government sold 23.2 million shares at a fixed price of 11,400 won ($10.75) per share. The finance ministry stated both local and foreign investors evenly shared the offering. IBK was established as a bank policy to support small and midsize businesses in 1961 and went public in 2003. ii) Background: Industrial Bank of Korea has contributed to facilitating the economic activities of SMEs and enhancing their economic status. IBK has proven itself during challenging times such as the 1997 Asian financial crisis and the 2008-2009 global financial crisis. IBK started with only 200 million capital stock but is now a powerful bank that competes globally with the world’s best banks. As the world’s seventh largest exporter, South Korea has......

South-South Cooperation and Triangular Cooperation

...South-South cooperation for development 1. Introduction South-South Cooperation (SSC) and Triangular Cooperation (TC) are emerging forms of aid architecture far from the traditional “North-South” model. SSC, based on the attainment of internationally agreed development goals, including the Millennium Development Goals, is meant to strengthen developing countries’ voice and their bargaining power in multilateral negotiations. It also gives them the opportunity to promote self-sufficiency among them and strengthen their economic ties. South-South cooperation has existed for at least sixty years. It has become much more prominent in the past decade. Many Southern countries have emerged as important actors in the global economy. Their exact contribution to development is hard to quantify. Yet, they have provided ample support, in terms of financial assistance, capacity building, skill and personnel exchange, and technology transfer. However, despite the fact that SSC can be more sustainable than traditional North-South cooperation allowing better adaptation to the country situation, in practice there is still no shared understanding on the very nature and goals of SSC. This is true on the basis of the various and sometimes divergent “interpretations” on SSC given by both emerging economies and developed countries. Some argue that South-South Cooperation should not be seen as a substitute for, rather a complement to North-South cooperation, while others argue that the two......

South Africa

...South Africa is the continent’s second-largest economy and comprises of more than 50 million consumers, a health and quality-conscious middle class, a fairly stable political climate and a sound, effective financial system (South Africa.info 2013). This positive environment seems to provide a solid foundation for Britannia Industries to expand its biscuit segment. However, it is important to conduct a more thorough and accurate analysis in order to have a better comprehension of the possible issues, opportunities and challenges that may occur upon entering the market. 3.3.1 The economic environment Since the 2008 global financial crisis, the South African economy has demonstrated uneven growth, with an average increase of above 2%. This is largely due to the effect of the global economy in addition to the country’s strong ties to advanced economies (Statistics South Africa n.a.). According to Schwab et al. (2013), South Africa was ranked as the 53rd most competitive country worldwide, overtaking Brazil to take second place among BRICS-countries. Regardless of some soft macro- economic indicators such as an extremely high unemployment rate (25.4%) and rising inflation (5.9%) (Trading Economics 2014), direct foreign investments (FDI) continue to flow into the county. As shown in Figure 1, South Africa is ranked as the 13thmost attractive FDI destination globally, coming ahead of Switzerland, Spain and Italy. This positive rating is a result of numerous successful large merger...

South Africa

...South Africa Strayer University SOC 300: Sociology of Developing Countries Professor T. Taylor August 31, 2015 South Africa South Africa is located at the southern tip of Africa. It is made up of a unique demographic, and is approximately twice the size of Texas (Cia.gov, 2015). The death rate in South Africa is the highest of any country (Cia.gov, 2015). AIDS is very prevalent, with South Africa having the fourth highest rate of any country in the world (Cia.gov, 2015). Economic growth is slow, and unemployment is around 25% (Cia.gov, 2015). While the economy of South Africa is experiencing slow growth, they still use the benefits of funding from banking institutions. It is important to understand whether funding from these banking institutions, as well as the general health of the population, affects the economy and politics of the country of South Africa. The World Bank and IMF have the potential to positively impact the economy in South Africa. According to Olawale and Garwe (2010), it is essential that more small and medium enterprises (SME’s) are started in South Africa. They posit this idea due to the high unemployment rate plaguing South Africa. While the World Bank is in full support of more SME’s being opened in South Africa, South Africans fear corruption will prevent them from beginning new SME’s. On the other hand, one could draw the conclusion that loans from the World Bank and IMF are allowing the corrupt South African government to continue thriving...

The South

...American South is an interesting culture that has had an avid history in the United States’ past. A vast region, the South is rich with its own individuality that has shaped our history and continues to do so today. Growing up in the South has immersed me in a culture of values and hospitality, instituting morals in my life that have gotten me to where I am now. Each region has its own faults however, and while this region may have a bit of a misunderstood history, what it’s turning into can’t really be appreciated until new perspective is introduced to your surroundings. The South is responsible for ranges of genre in music that stretch far deeper than the 36’30 line. While New Orleans was brewing the most wild of jazz, a collective of states narrated their lives into the Country sound Southern twang. Eventually Soul entered the fray, pioneered by the finest and most innovative of musicians. It was this innovation, this drive that lead to the music of today, music mixed amongst the South that influences my generation as they move about in life. For me, music has inspired me and given me the motivation to keep on moving up the social hierarchy, while helping me identify the curveballs life often tosses my way. While not having the most impact on my musical taste, Wagon Wheel (by Old Crow Medicine Show) reintroduced me to the concept of modern branches of Country music, branches that still retain its roots that remain buried in the heart of the......
