"Task analysis for instructional design is a process of analyzing and articulating the kind of learning that you expect the learners to know how to perform". (George Mason University) Although task analysis has been approached from several perspectives, there is one constant among them. Task analysis, at a minimum, assists the instructor or designer to understand the content to be taught.
According to George Mason University, (n.d.) instructional designers perform task analysis in order to: * determine the instructional goals and objectives; * define and describe in detail the tasks and sub-tasks that the student will perform; * specify the knowledge type (declarative, structural, and procedural knowledge) that characterize a job or task; * select learning outcomes that are appropriate for instructional development; * prioritize and sequence tasks; * determine instructional activities and strategies that foster learning; * select appropriate media and learning environments; * construct performance assessments and evaluation.
Below is a goal analysis I developed to assist learners in understanding the business planning process for a beauty business.
Goal:
At the end of six weeks, learners will know the main components of a business plan and through the use of business planning software, will develop a business plan that will be used to measure comprehension and be used to obtain financing for starting a new beauty industry business.
Objectives:

...Memo Having been asked to recommend which method of production Shuzworld should use, in terms of equipment, for manufacturing of its sneakers I recommend Shuzworld should purchase new equipment. This is based on my analysis comparing the reconditioning of old equipment verses the purchasing of new equipment or that of outsourcing the operation. In doing this I took into account the both cost types that of fixed costs and variable costs. So that I could use the breakeven cost volume analysis tool I had to consider all variable costs as a constant with the relationship between those two costs as linear and not exponential. In my analysis I use consistent costs with differing scenarios which allow the use of POM for Windows to be used to assist in this decision. Using this I noted the inputs for all three options under consideration. The information for both fixed and variable costs was derived from information shared by Alistair Wu and Angela Down. Using further information obtain via Alistair Wu I set the volume to 1000 sneakers as a starting point. The information shared shows fixed costs for reconditioning is $50,000 with $1,000,000 spent in variable costs being that anticipated expense to 1.5 million dollars. The purchase of new equipment has a fixed expense of $200,000 but the variable costs drop to half that of reconditioning at only $500,000 giving a total cost of $700,000. Summarization of key points that could affect bank officer’s decision The first thing you notice in the HA is the relationship between revenue and the selling expenses. The selling expenses are variable and rise and fall with revenue. In both years they are in lockstep, 3.21% in between Years 12 and 13 and 1.91% in Years 13 and 14. The general and admin expenses show some areas of concern, being generally fixed expenses, they should be consistent from year to year. There are four expense categories that need further research: Admin Salaries, Executive Compensation, Utilities, and Other GA Expenses. Executive Compensation acts more as a variable expense since the compensation is tied to performance. As sales go up, the executives should be rewarded and it shows in the Income Statement.
