Organization The key to any good business is organization. If each component of a business is organized and efficient, the better the business will function and produce. Breaking down the tasks of each component of the system led to the concept of job design. The emergence of job design happened as technological advances in mass production began to increase at the turn of the 20th century. Jobs continue to become more complex and specialized, so there is an increased need for educated, motivated employees (Encarnacion, unknown). Job deigns main purpose is to increase motivation and productivity. Increased productivity can take on many forms, quality and quantity improvements, reduced operation costs, or reduced turnover and training costs(Encarnacion, unknown).

In regards to question one in the Hovey and Beard Company Case, I feel that the process of painting the wooden toys should have been simplified. The employees were performing too many tasks to keep up with the conveyer system. The painters had to take a toy from a nearby tray, position it in a jig, spray on the color and then hang the toy on a passing hook. If the process were simplified to where the toys were already in position to be painted, this would eliminate some steps in the process and essentially increase production. Another way to help the performance problems at the Hovey and Beard Company is the Reinforcement Theory. The Reinforcement Theory pretty much states that a person can be motivated by its consequences. So depending on if those consequences are positive or negative, you can change someone’s motivation. Many employees have different motivation reasons so if you understand what motivates someone; you can understand how to get them to increase their productivity at a lower cost or no cost or all. There are four primary approaches to reinforcement theory: positive…...

And all the while you are on the lookout for the signs of growth—a new behavior learned or modified, a slight improvement in a skill, a glimpse of excellence or of “flow” where previously there were only halting steps. For you these small increments—invisible to some—are clear signs of potential being realized. These signs of growth in others are your fuel. They bring you strength and satisfaction. Over time many will seek you out for help and encouragement because on some level they know that your helpfulness is both genuine and fulfilling to you. Relator- Relator describes your attitude toward your relationships. In simple terms, the Relator theme pulls you toward people you already know. You do not necessarily shy away from meeting new people—in fact, you may have other themes that cause you to enjoy the thrill of turning strangers into friends—but you do derive a great deal of pleasure and strength from being around your close friends. You are comfortable with intimacy. Once the initial connection has been made, you deliberately encourage a deepening of the relationship. You want to understand their feelings, their goals, their fears, and their dreams; and you want them to understand yours. You know that this kind of closeness implies a certain amount of risk—you might be taken advantage of—but you are willing to accept that risk. For you a relationship has value only......

...Dowd and Friedman’s Strengths Thomas Friedman and Maureen Dowd have covered numerous subjects in the articles I read. The articles these writers produce have exceptionally interesting making it obvious as to why there opinions are so highly valued. Some of the issues they chose to cover were unique due to the little coverage put out by the mass media. Certain aspects of Friedman and Dowd’s articles have stuck out to me and shown me why their articles are so widely read. One part of Dowd I enjoy in particular is her use of slang and contemporary phrasing to make her writing sound young at heart. In her article on November 20th titled “Nuking the White House,” Dowd uses phrases such as “a bunch of old, white, Republican dudes.” She also in this article refers to President George W. Bush as just “W.” as she does in many other articles. Although some may find this annoying I on the other hand think her minor use of slang gives personality to the writing. Dowd’s use of slang catches my attention when I’m reading her articles and it makes her seem more down to earth. After reading Thomas Friedman’s articles I found that he is particularly skilled at coving topics dealing with foreign affairs. His outstanding knowledge in globalization makes him especially good at covering this topic. In 1995 Friedman was The New York Times’ foreign-affairs columnist. His articles pertaining to foreign affairs show that he has and exceptional understanding on what maneuvers......

The House of Strength

...‘The House of Strength’ Before western influence, ancient Iranians participated in numerous sporting events, much like the Greeks and their Olympics. Iranians though prided themselves in a type of wrestling called “Koshti Pahlavani” or “Heroic Wrestling”, where they would do graceful but powerful moves to pin their opponents. In order to train for events such as this, they developed a place to go to gain the strength, power, and endurance necessary to master their event. This place was known as the “Zurkhaneh” or “House of Strength”. The Zurkhaneh was originally a place to train and get closer to God, through weight training, because strength was seen as something godly. The Zurkhaneh housed the one true Iranian way of weight training, “Varzesh-e-Pahlavni” or “The Workout of Heroes”. This workout was a 60-90 minute routine of different lifts and exercises all in alignment to the beat of drums and bells. Now although there are many technical parts to the Zurkhaneh, like who leads it and different levels and rankings (much like those of Karate and Tae Kwon Do), I am going to focus specifically on the weight training aspect of the Varzesh. These exercises include the warm-ups, “Takhteh-Shena”, “Narmesh” (aka Calisthenics), “Meel” exercises, “Charkhidan”, “Pazadan”, “Kabbadeh Keshidan”, “Sang” exercises, and “Shelang-Takhteh”. Each part of the full exercise fully works different parts of the person’s body. In the 90 minute period, the people in the Zurkhaneh start by...

...taught to respect other people’s opinions and never judge anyone because after all who was I, God? My father instilled in me the hunger for knowledge. Granted I was never one to seek it in my teenage years for the only thing I sought was MTV and hanging out with friends. Now that I am an adult and clarity has reached me on a whole new level, I see in myself a very big strength. The strength to stand tall and never accept defeat, sure I might topple over a time or two and trip over the same rock twice but I’m still here. I’m grateful to be alive. Life isn’t always about misery and depression and wanting to commit suicide. I feel that I can reach out to people and show them what I a mess I was or am or will continue to be. I will turn this mess of mine into my message. Having the will to help others is all I’ve ever wanted to do in this lifetime. I feel that I have that ability to be there for people. In my own experience speaking with people, 9 times out of 10 all anyone wants is just to be heard. I’ve had people come to talk to me just out of the blue and tell me their problems. I don’t know why but I feel I have a strength to allow people to feel comfortable around me because I won’t judge them. I will just listen and provide a piece of advice that comes from the man upstairs, our heavenly father. I’ve heard and read so many self-help books and I’ve just about applied most of them to myself. Strengths and Weaknesses

...Strengths and Weaknesses Essay A person’s strengths and weaknesses reflect their overall character and ability to lead. When looking at my character, it is important to consider all of my qualities, whether they are good or bad. For example, I consider leadership to be a large part of my personal identity. Since leadership is one of my most important characteristics, many of my strengths derive from it. My strengths are important to consider in my overall personality and the way I relate to other people. An important strength in my character is my ability to work hard and stay focused in a distracting environment. It is easy for me to accomplish tasks while others may try to distract me. For example, in class, I am able to get all my work done on time without being sidetracked. I am also very organized. This helps me to get things done faster and more efficiently. Organization is very important in the workplace and I have an advantage because of it. My ability to lead others is important as well. I can be a role model to those around me by exerting leadership qualities such as direction and responsibility. I am also very dependable and reliable. When working in teams, others can count on me to do my fair share of the work and not let them down. Even though I have many strengths, I also have weaknesses as well. My weaknesses hinder my abilities and are flaws in my personality, which could complicate my relationships with others. One of my......

Signature Strengths

...Signature Strengths Essential Elements for Effectiveness Signature Strengths Juan R. Abascal, Ph. D., Laurel Brucato, Ph. D. Patricia Stephenson, Ph. D., Dominic Brucato, Ph. D. After take the survey "Signature Strengths Inventory", I am able to know more about myself. According to my score “wisdom and knowledge” are a strength. I see this category as a true strength because it is a way of interacting with the world, learn more about our everyday, and have our own perspectives in life. Courage is another category that is part of my strength, but I'm not sure that the survey’s result is correct because who has not said a white lie sometimes? At least I not deal with people who do not like with genuineness although courteously. So I do not think this is always a strength. Humanity and love are also a strength because I love to give enthusiastic support to others. Within the category of justice we have leadership, and according to my score is a weakness. Here I could argue that it's depending of the situation. But having leadership is not a weakness, on the contrary, it allows you to develop the skills of working with others and guide them. According to section "developing your strength signature more fully" to develop this skill I should organize a study group, book club, or volunteer group in my neighborhood, I think this could help me because it would give me the opportunity to share with others and to interact and learn from them. Temperance is a strength, take......

Three Strengths

...Three Strengths Essay Everyone has personal strengths that they utilize on the daily basis. In life we encounter experiences that help us identify our strengths as individuals. In the past, I’ve had several job experiences that tested what I believe to be are my greatest strengths. I believe each of these strengths speak to my character and will provide me with boundless opportunities in the future. One of my greatest strengths is my ability to be well-organized at all times. Growing up, I always lived in a very well put together household. Observing my moms need to keep the house spick-and-span, I picked up on her tidy habits. Everything in my room has a place which makes it easy to find something when it is needed. Being organized not only makes things appear nice but it also plays a huge role in productivity. It’s astounding how much more work you can get done when you don’t have to waste time scrambling looking for things. As a watch specialist at Fossil, it was my responsibility to re-merchandise all of the watch displays throughout the store. This entailed me having to pull all the previous seasons’ watches from the floor, separating them by style, counting and comparing them to the inventory list, and finally, restocking the new watches for the current floor-set. While these tasks may not have been complicated, it was extremely time consuming. Luckily, being organized is what helped me to accomplish my assignment in a timely fashion. This particular......

A Nation's Strength

...Analysis of "A Nation's Strength" By Ralph Waldo Emerson "A nation's strength" is a poem written by Ralph Waldo Emerson in 1847. I can see that it is a poem from a line of similarities that this text has to/with a poem. A poem is characterized by the composition, the use of strong verbs and precise nouns, the use of rhythm, repetitions, alliteration, line breaks and the use of metaphors, similes or personification. Poems will often rhyme but they will not sacrifice meaning for rhyme. A poem has a focused purpose (paints a picture, recreates a feeling, tells a story, captures a moment, etc). In this poem the author uses vivid imagery and metaphors to convince the reader that the strength of a nation, is not in its wealth or military powers, but in its people. I would like to start off by explaining the structural composition of this poem. The form of this poem is a bit of a mix. It has both enjambments and full stops. The enjambment (stanza 1, verse 1, 2) is when one sentence is divided into two verses. A full stop (stanza 2, vers 1) is when there is a definite break/period. It has 6 stanzas and 4 verses in each stanza. The poem has an ab ab rhyme and an 8-6-8-6 rhythm. The ab ab rhyme tells us that the last words in the sentences will rhyme in pairs, every second line. For example the first stanza rhymes; high-defy and strong-throng. The 8-6-8-6 rhythm explains the number of syllables in each verse. For example stanza 1, vers 1, 2; what makes a nation's pillars......
