Mobile Computing and Social Networking

U S Healthcare costs have been on the rise for over 50 years, and have increased at an alarming rate of 2-3 times the norm within the past six years. This is one profession where mobile computing has had a substantial impact, and this paper will compare and contrast the monitoring of patient vital signs using mobile computing technology to in-patient visits to doctors’ offices or hospitals; it will analyze the advantages and disadvantages of using mobile computing technology to monitor patients; assess the security concerns with regard to the transmission of personal medical information over wireless networks; and assess the use of social networking for group support for patients with similar medical concerns.

Mobile Computing and Social Networking
In today’s society, emerging developments in technology have greatly impacted the healthcare industry, especially when it comes to patient care and the monitoring of their vitals. Traditionally, patients communicate their health concerns to their physicians, who in turn schedule an appointment and conduct a series of tests and relay the results to the patient. When the tests dictate the need to monitor a patient’s vital signs, due to resultant findings, the patient is required to check in to a local facility for an extended period of time to be monitored around the clock by nurses, doctors, and other physician assistants. Once completed, the results are recorded manually, and stored in the patients’ records via the records management department. With the technological developments used today, wireless health monitoring systems are used to monitor patients’ vital signs, and a mobile device is now…...

...Introduction In the timeline of mobile phone technology, 3G technology will always be tied to the introduction of the smart-phone; but as our mobile phones evolve so does our technology. Our society is a demanding one and for the technologically savvy those demands are in the form of mobility, connectivity and faster mobile technology. 1. Compare and Contrast 3G Wireless Networks to 4G Networks in terms of : Service and Applications In today’s services and applications, the 3G wireless networks offer CDMA2000, UMTS, and EDGE plus other technologies in the list, while 4G networks offer Wimax2, LTE-Advance and HSPA+. Both of 3G and 4G are standards for mobile communications, primarily the 3G networks are designed for voice communications while the 4G networks are designed especially for data transmission rather than voice and it offers faster access to data in mobile phones. For example, 3G is a preferred for mobile phone games, especially those which contain graphics and animation, but for streaming videos, the 4G works better with less stuttering and a higher resolution. Similarly, video conferencing, IP telephony and even 3D television work better with faster data transmission offered by 4G. Network Architecture Essentially, the 3G network is defined as Wide Area Cell Based network with a circuit switched fall-back which it relies on large satellite connections allow connection to many different telecommunication towers. While the 4G networks are based on......

Cis500 Week 7 Assignment 3

...Mobile Computing and Social Networking Louis F DeWeaver III Strayer University CIS500 Week 7 Assignment 3: Mobile Computing and Social Networking Instructor: Albert Dominic November 24, 2013 Introduction With the many advancements in mobile technology, the health care industry has been able to use this technology to enhance the quality of the services they provide. Thus the birth of wireless medical patient monitoring. Monitoring Patient Vital Signs via Mobile Computing Versus In-Patient Visits Mobile monitoring of patient vital signs has become more popular than ever. Imagine being able to monitor your blood pressure, glucose levels (diabetes), your body temperature and many others using mobile technologies that have surfaced today. I remember when a patient would have to make a trip to the doctor’s office to have their vital signs taken. Now vital signs can be recorded and stored on a mobile device, uploaded to a database that can be accessed by the doctor’s office. Storing vital sign stats on mobile devices is light years ahead of having a person physically take those vital have to enter them on a chart and then enter them into a computer system. The mobile technology also saves time by allowing instant access to the data instead of waiting hours. Patients are able to take advantage of the new smartphones and can monitor their own vitals and have a digital record they can share with the doctor anytime. They are also able to chat real-time with the doctor...

They then asked you for one final demonstration of how to implement the method specification using an object-oriented (OO) programming language and see the method actually execute. You realize that it is easy to implement the method specification in an OO programming language, but it is hard to test it because the rest of the application is not developed yet. You decided, therefore, to write two pieces of code. Code that implements the GetCourseByCourseID() method Code that implements a unit test for that method alone (outside of any other application code) This way you can demonstrate the method implementation and also verify its correct behavior. Cis500 Case Study 2- Wireless and Mobile Technologies

...Case Study 2: Wireless and Mobile Technologies Paula Tucker Dr. Howell CIS500 August 22, 2015 1. Define wireless technologies and mobile technologies. Next, determine at least three (3) ways which companies or organizations utilize such technologies to improve business efficiency. “Wireless is a term used to describe telecommunications in which electromagnetic waves (rather than some form of wire) carry the signal over part or all of the communication path” (www. searchmobilecomputing.techtarget.com). Wireless technology has dramatically changed over the last several years, with increasing capabilities and innovations. Some common examples of modern wireless technologies include smartphones, GPS, cordless phones, baby monitors, two-way radios, remote garage openers, cordless computers and equipment, tablets, laptops, notebooks, and satellite television. Mobile technologies or Mobile IT (mobile information technology) “is the ability an information technology (IT) department has to deliver IT services to employees working on mobile devices” (www. searchmobilecomputing.techtarget.com). Many of the above mentioned wireless devices are also mobile devices like smartphones, tablets, and GPS navigation devices. More and more mobile computing with the use of tablets is becoming increasing popular. According to Turban (2015), “wireless technology makes mobile computing and commerce a source of vast opportunities for businesses” (195). Companies and organizations......
