PAIN, I have realized, is beautiful only when one can rise from its depressing power. I have known people who have become bitter and cynical under the lash of sorrow; and I have known some who never recovered from anguish. My experience is important only so far as it may help others toward growth; it is worthless to me if it implies vanity.

Sonia to me is a fairy tale half told or a lyric half lost in fancy, a delicate melody unsung. Had she grown into full womanhood, she might have become an intellectual; for she was deliberate and clearcut in her language, precise in her reasoning, and keen in sensing nuances which maturer minds about her could not appreciate; then I should have remembered her as reason grown into wit and perhaps into philosophy, but the impression of a fairyland would have been forever lost, the glamor of its poetry never felt even in vague suggestions, and the delicate melodies never perceived. As a friend suggested to me when grief was most oppresive: "You shall always remember her as a child." How beautiful I felt it was! For nothing but poetry could give such a feeling. In such a moment, reason would have destroyed me with consummate triumph; for if I had tried to explain why God had snatched away from me the thing I loved best in life, I would have allowed reason to rob me of sorrow to show me the way to a more beautiful, more full, and nearly perfect life. Sonia shall always live in my memory as a child who wonders why the stars shine in the sky and the rain drops from heaven and the grass grows on the wayside; as a child who finds all things pure and true in her innocent eyes. I shall look in those eyes and see so much confidence and faith when I feel that I am losing my own faith and confidence. I shall draw from my memory of her a child's enthusiasm for life when my heart is heavy and my eyes are dim with age. This is my ideal;…...

Right after he bumps into Della and tells about the people who are following him. They change cars to secure Foy, and agree to meet in front of the hotel later. The journalist, Helen, is asking Fergus if he was the one who hired Sonia to work for U-ex oil, but he gets insulted and angry, and says that she should keep her mouth closed if she wants to keep her job. Foy is scared, he thinks that he might get killed because of his dirty job at Warner Schloss, but he will still not tell the journalists about it. Now Foy and Stephen meet up with all the journalists, but not face to face. Stephen overhears Callum and Della’s questioning of Foy. He tells the whole story about Sonia’s hiring, together with a contact person for U-ex oil, called Paul Canning. ...expensive they have to borrow money to pay tuition. They have so many financial responsibilities they need to work more hours and do not have enough time to study. Then they are not prepared for test and papers; end up failing and dropping out. Because they are dropping out they will not have the degree for a better job, and now have debt. Community college students are at higher risk of dropping out than students that are at a university because of many reasons: lack of motivation, less financial investment, and insufficient time management. A woman that was able to overcome these obstacles was Sonia Sotomayor, author of My Beloved World. She describes the same kind of difficulty as college students are going through right now, except for dropping out. Even though she had significant burdens on her shoulders she graduated from an Ivy League school. If prospective college’s students applied Sonia Sotomayor tactics before and during the first years at university, then they would be more apt to complete their degree. Sonya Sotomayor initially found herself at Harvard, a campus that she quickly was uncomfortable with and in ways regretted attending, a feeling that many current college students find themselves experiencing as they arrive at university. As a Puerto Rican, and a woman, typically wealthy, white, males who have dominated Harvard’s law school since its inception surrounded Sotomayor. Despite roughly fifty years of purposed implementation of Affirmative Action,......

...Facts: Sonia is an employee at Bud Foods where she works under the supervision of Raymond, who is also one of the minority shareholders of the Company. After securing her employment at the company and prior to commencing her work there, Sonia was given the opportunity to watch training videotapes that covered job responsibilities, safety procedures, as well as the prohibition against sexual harassment. After that, she was also requested to review and sign several policies of the company including the sexual harassment policy. After her first week of work at the Company, Sonia alleged that she was sexually harassed by Raymond. On the first instance, Sonia alleges that Raymond called her at the cash register saying, ‘'Come here, I want us to talk about sex." Sonia ignored and walked away. As she was walking, Raymond said something about Sonia's rear end. Sonia did not comment and walked away as if she heard nothing. On the next day, Raymond and Sonia met at a place where all employees serve their lunches and Raymond said to her that, ‘'The last time I had a lady like you, she always turned me on like crazy and every time I came across her, we had to play sex." Sonia got embarrassed and told Raymond that she didn't enjoy being talked to in that manner, and she walked away. Again on this same day, Raymond found Sonia at her place of work and leaned on a wall behind her back looking her rear end. Raymond said, "Mmm, Mmm, mmmm!" as he watched helplessly at Sonia's rear end. Sonia......

Comparing Transcripts

...Text 'A' is a transcript of a private spontaneous speech between two friends, Rebecca and Sonia. They are talking about their attitudes towards food, cooking and cookery programmes. Sonia is positive about the three topics whereas Rebecca firmly hates cooking. Text 'B' is an extract from an online article based on an interview with Raymond Blanc. The audience is the general public as it is accessible online, but is probably mostly read by adults with an interest in cooking. Contrasting text 'A', Blanc's interview shows a hugely positive attitude to both food and cooking. The purpose of the article is to inform the reader about Raymond Blanc. In text 'A' Sonia and Rebecca's vocabulary and speech features are influenced by the context of their conversation, a private, spontaneous and friendly situation. The conversational topic starts out as cookery programmes, as initiated by Sonia. The topic is only discussed briefly, before the conversation moves onto the topic of cooking. Cooking is not a topic Rebecca is comfortable with and she is bold with her attitudes towards it. "I hate cooking", the stress on the word "hate" shows how strongly she feels about this topic. Sonia's attitude is different from Rebecca's and this is shown when, before Rebecca has finished her sentence, Sonia overlaps with "What" showing that she is surprised enough to interrupt her friend. After Sonia expresses her shock Rebecca takes conversational dominance to explain herself, but she seems to be more......

Case Study Performance Appraisals

...Sonia was in an unfortunate situation regarding her performance appraisal. This situation definitely could have been prevented. First of all time was not given when going through her evaluation. Her supervisor Mrs. McCallister kept putting off her review because she was too busy. Finally she made time for Sonia. With that being said it didn’t allow the necessary conversation between the two to be taken. From what witnesses stated that Sonia came out crying. From what was put in her review she was not performing up to par. This leads me to conclude Mrs. McCallister just gave her critiques on Sonia ending the conversation. I don’t believe Sonia got the time she deserved to really see what she needed to truly improve on. In all honesty, on the accounts of Sonia’s actual performance she got praise. It’s when the supervisor went into a more opinionated appraisal that things turned south. The supervisor also stated that she was happy with the quality and accuracy of her work. So why would the supervisor find it necessary to put in her review that she is excessively on the phone, that it’s interfering with her work and endangering patients. This supervisor clearly didn’t put in the effort to find out what Sonia needs to improve on. Rather she just took cheap shots at Sonia, to have some time of improvement on there. Sonia’s review should have not reflected so heavily on the “attitude” that was given but more on her actual work performance. Sonia has a few options she could do......

Unfair Dismissal Advice

...for an appeal through external systems (Bendix, Sonia, 2010). Most dismissal appeal cases aim to result in reinstatement, but seeing as you have interests in receiving compensation, and having the injustices of your dismissal corrected, below I shall outline steps you can take to achieve this through the CCMA or Labour Court. The two options I explains have differing weightings on their likelihood to produce justice (ie. Probable ruling in your favour) and their degree of compensation. I shall end off by advising you based on these weightings. To start the appeal process for any of the options I will suggest, you will need to send a written referral to the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA), seeing as financial institutions do not have a bargaining council of their own (Bendix, Sonia, 2010. This should be done within the 30 days from the date you were informed or given notice of dismissal, which in your case is probably when you received the outcome of your disciplinary hearing. You can find the prescribed form for referrals through this link, which once completed, should be copied for delivery to your employer. It’s important that you prove that a copy was sent (eg. proof of a fax copy transmission slip, a postal receipt, courier slip or a signed hand delivery) and that you start the process soon, seeing as the CCMA will only condone late referrals if you can provide an acceptable reason (Bendix, Sonia, 2010). Once the referral is sent, the......

...Sonia Zahid Case 43 October 28, 2015 American Greetings Should American Greetings Repurchase its Shares? 1. Is 3.5x multiple appropriate for American Greetings? If not, what multiple of EBITDA to think is justified? Based on the information provided, I believe that the EBITDA Multiple of 3.5x is not justified. EBITDA Mutiple (or EV/EBITDA) is a better measure than P/E ratio because it is not affected by the changes in capital structure between debt and equity. And for this reason it also makes fair comparison to companies with different capital structures. It is also a pre-tax metric making it easier to compare across different companies preferably in the same industry. This metric is preferred over P/E ratio since it is not affected by mix of capital structure. It is also a better measure of the company’s takeover value. EBITDA Multiple is calculated: Enterprise Value/EBITDA =MV of Equity +MV of Debt – Cash/EBITDA =($920.38mill - $172mill)/$200.58mill EBITDA Multiple =3.73x (close to 3.5x) The reason why I do not feel is justified is based off of the projections, the implied enterprise value is $1.563mill. So the revised calculation would be: ($1.563mill - $172mill)/$200.58mill =6.93x The company has the ability to generate more returns on the investment than the current EBITDA multiple indicates. EBITDA Multiple for some of the industry competitors are calculated as follows based on given data: Comparable Firms (End of 2011, Millions Except Share Price) Shares Share......

Crime and Punishment Essay

...narrative ends. An epilogue satisfies this curiosity, leaving the reader informed and fulfilled. In Fyodor Dostoevsky’s Epilogue in Crime and Punishment, there have been speculations in regards to if the epilogue had any sort of significance. This argument sways both ways, but in the case of Crime and Punishment the books identity would be altered if the epilogue were to be absent. Ultimately, the role of the epilogue plays a vital role and is indeed necessary in the establishment of this novel. The epilogue gives the audience a accurate view on the character of Raskolnikov, allows them to see through his imperfections. It ties up any loose ends that the readers may have and most importantly displays the strong affection Raskolnikov and Sonia possess. Crime and Punishment’s epilogue truly uncovers Raskolnikov’s class as a human being. The audience can appreciate that fact that Raskolnikov is not a complete selfish human being, that he is capable of portraying acts of selflessness. Throughout most of the novel, Raskolnikov is characterized as a man who only thinks about himself. He in visions himself as a human of elite status, and the consequences of the average human do not apply to him. This theory of his is reveled to be just a fictional thought when he eventually derails from sanity shortly after the murder he committed. While Raskolnikov is consistently portrayed to be a self-interested man, he does embody acts of affection. Within the epilogue Raskolnikov has be seen...

Online Negotiations

...basis for what could be a long time to come. As you read your role information and prepare for the encounter, think about how the pursuit of your goals-whether you are in the role of the hiring firm or the job-seeking student-may or should be affected by the unique context involved when one is negotiating about employment. Background Information Martin Smith an MBA student in the final semester before graduation, has an offer (see Offer Letter, below) for permanent employment from Orange Craters (OC), and the deadline for accepting the offer is next week. Martin spent the summer before his final year in the MBA program working for OC in Orange City, FL. His boss during the summer internship was Sonia Martinez, the product manager for OC’s flagship product-a new terabit router. Sonia is the person at OC with whom Martin will speak to negotiate the terms of the offer. Economic and Industry Conditions At the time of the job offer, the U.S. economy has leveled off following a prolonged upswing. Economic growth is significantly lower than it was just a couple of years ago. The mixed news for MBA students, however, is that although the unemployment rate is elevated, and the job market for new MBA graduates has remained reasonably strong. In recent years, “traditional” MBA employers such as banks and consulting firms have felt pressure to compete with aggressive technology companies recruiting top MBA prospects with potentially lucrative stock options. More recently, the......

I really wanted to meet him. Where is your brother? I don’t wanna talk about him right now. We’ll talk about him some other day. After hearing that, I was very confused. Her brother was like a mystery to me now because Sonia never talked about him, I have never seen him, and he was nowhere to be seen at the party. I was very anxious to know Dhaval and meet him after this incident. After the party was over everybody left, but I stayed for a little bit to help clean up the place. As I was cleaning up, I saw a guy walk down the stairs and go to the kitchen. He looked at me, but did not say anything. I did not know him, so I did not say anything either. Sonia’s mom was in the kitchen and that guy went to the kitchen. I am very disappointed and upset that my son did not come to his own sister’s birthday party. I was very heartbroken, when I found out that Dhaval did not even wish Sonia happy birthday. As a mother it really hurts seeing your children fighting and not getting along. The worst part is that I have to lie to everybody to hide this; for example, I had to tell everybody that he went to his friend’s wedding. I hope my kids getting along and live happily together soon. I wish if my mom stopped talking about Sonia with me because it is getting very annoying now. Why does she always have to......
