...Compare, Contrast and Discuss Mechanistic vs. Organic Structures Vance Conyers Organizational Theory 360A 28 September 2012 Organization structure is “The formal system of task and authority relationships that control how people coordinate their actions and use resources to achieve goals”. (Jones 8) The structure that an organization forms can determine its ultimate success of failure. It sets the foundation for how the organization will function, make decisions, and respond to change. The two types of structures an organization can use are mechanic and organic. Mechanistic and organic structures both have advantages and disadvantages, and neither one is a perfect solution. Depending on the product, tasks to create the product, and people to create the product, make the decision very challenging. In most cases, elements of both types are implemented to ensure a successful business. The executive management is responsible for formulating the right mix in order to achieve success. They use organizational design to process information to select the best options. Every aspect of this decision will play out from how much power middle managers have, to the scope of responsibility direct supervisors encompass. The type of organization directly affects the culture and moral of employees. Social Organization

...Social Organization ETH 316 August 22, 2012 Social Organization In the world of business, many companies have begun to partner with social organizations as a means of connecting and communicating with society. This communication allows for improvements in areas that may be lacking by gathering feedback directly from the consumer. The Veteran’s Affairs offices of San Diego, or VA for short, will be partnering with Facebook to improve communication with veterans. Prior to Operation Iraqi Freedom, OIF, and Operation Enduring Freedom, OEF, a veteran was generally viewed as an elderly man or woman. With an older age group, partnering with a social organization such as Facebook may not have been beneficial because they may not have employed its use. However, because of our engagements in Iraq and Afghanistan, the average age for a veteran is significantly lower. With a younger age group, communicating through the social organization Facebook is extremely beneficial. Communication is a key element in assisting a veteran. By partnering with Facebook, veterans will be able to receive updates on benefits that may have changed, or will be changing. This partnership will give veterans an easier and faster method of communication, enabling them to obtain answers to questions that may have normally taken four times as long to obtain via telephone. While using the VA’s website to answer frequently asked questions is a great method of gathering needed information, communication......

Being able to describe the organization is the way to succeed in helping others understand what it is that the employees are trying to accomplish. A mission statement helps to keep the ideals or the organization in mind, as well as establishing what target population they would help. Creating a values statement, will help the organization to communicate its moral side with potential clients and others. A code of ethics (code) serves as a central guide to support day-to-day decision making at work. It clarifies the cornerstones of your organization-- its mission, values and principles –helping your staff understand how these cornerstones translate into everyday decisions, behaviors and actions. While some may believe codes are designed to limit one’s actions, the best codes are actually structured to liberate and empower people to make more effective decisions with greater confidence. An effective code has many uses, but two critical ones stand out. A code should (1) clarify Gray areas or questions employees have concerning organizational values and expectations and (2) Help build trust and commitment. At best, a code “reflects the covenant that an organization has made to uphold its...

...The sources I chose or my articles are reliable, relevant sources for my Personal Responsibility Essay. Managed Healthcare Executive for example is a reliable source; they are members of the Modern Medicine Network. This network consists of Editorial Advisory Board and Professional Advisory Council members. There is no author bias; the information published is actual facts, driven by statistics and research. Below is the section I used from this article for my essay. “Consumers' personal choices and behaviors are significant determinants of their overall health, and those who fail to take personal responsibility for their health can cost the system billions of dollars each year. For example, a 2010 study from the UnitedHealth Center for Reform and Modernization found that more than 50% of Americans could have diabetes or pre-diabetes by 2020, carrying a cost of $3.35 trillion over the next decade. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, smokers cost the community more than $193 billion annually in lost productivity and healthcare costs ( Managed Healthcare Executive" (2013).” I was relevant to my essay; I want to show the reader the cost to all insurers because of people who refused to take care of their health. Social Enterprises a Hybrid Organizations

...Social Enterprises as Hybrid Organizations: A Review and Research Agenda* Bob Doherty, Helen Haugh1 and Fergus Lyon2 The York Management School, University of York, Freboys Lane, York YO10 5GD, UK, 1Judge Business School, University of Cambridge, Trumpington Street, Cambridge CB2 1AG, UK, and 2Middlesex University, The Burroughs, London NW4 4BT, UK Corresponding author email: bob.doherty@york.ac.uk The impacts of the global economic crisis of 2008, the intractable problems of persistent poverty and environmental change have focused attention on organizations that combine enterprise with an embedded social purpose. Scholarly interest in social enterprise (SE) has progressed beyond the early focus on definitions and context to investigate their management and performance. From a review of the SE literature, the authors identify hybridity, the pursuit of the dual mission of financial sustainability and social purpose, as the defining characteristic of SEs.They assess the impact of hybridity on the management of the SE mission, financial resource acquisition and human resource mobilization, and present a framework for understanding the tensions and trade-offs resulting from hybridity. By examining the influence of dual mission and conflicting institutional logics on SE management the authors suggest future research directions for theory development for SE and hybrid organizations more generally. Social Research

...1. Introduction The proposed research project is explicitly concerned with the causal connection between youth sub-cultures in the criminal justice system and the effects of over representation. In addition, this encompasses the question topic area of how Becker’s labelling theory (Becker 1993) and Merton’s strain theory (Merton 1968) affects mainstream society’s perceived deviance of the Goth youth sub-culture and how much of this contributes to this youth sub-culture’s actual deviance. Moreover, a specific area of concern is whether the Goth youth sub-cultures of the past and present, is a site of deviance or a site of creative resistance to norms in mainstream society. Researching the contribution that labelling and stigmatisation of the Goth youth sub-culture have on criminogenic effects, is exceedingly important and valuable as it seeks to identify various gaps in previous research, such as the limited knowledge on the extent to which these factors contribute to deviance. Moreover, there is a lack of theoretical concepts that could possibly account for Goth youth sub-culture’s perceived behaviour. 2. Research question, significance and aims of the research i) Does negative labelling and the over-representation and stigmatisation of the Goth youth sub-culture, cause successive results of emerging and higher levels of deviance? Also, do the effects of stigmatisation cause youth to join the Goth sub-cultures in order to overcome their marginalisation in......

Social Organization and Change

...Social Organization and Change Most people would agree that cultural diversity in the workplace utilizes our country's skills to its fullest, and contributes to our overall growth and prosperity (Ethnic Majority, 2004). In the 20th century, one’s workplace is very diverse. In today’s workplace a person may be considered more valuable than another person if they are bilingual. The workplace consists of several different types of individuals with different backgrounds. In one office one may work with a combination of individuals from many different ethnic backgrounds such as African-American, Hispanic, Caucasian, Japanese, Indian, and Chinese. You may find that some work environments have conflicts due to the diversity while others are very pleasant and exciting to work in because of the same reason. Through observation one collects that diversity in the workplace introduces new foods, cultures, values, morals, religious beliefs and ideas. A diverse workplace is very interesting because individuals can learn from another. An individual can learn how to improve tasks through techniques. One can also learn how to communicate in a foreign language and become bilingual in more than one language. Studies have shown that diverse teams view situations from a broad range of perspectives, producing more creative solutions to problems and greater product innovation (Executive Diversity Services, Inc., 2006). A diverse work place allows for a person to be exposed to a......

...Research question Organizational culture can be defined by several themes that influence the operations and execution of personal and professional goals. Leadership, national culture, organizational effectiveness and the overall values upheld throughout a group diversify the experience of all those involved (Schnedier et al., 2012). These variables are important in addressing the complex nature of institutional operations as well as the personal relationships that may transpire within a group setting. The stability with which an organizational culture operates is based on these elements and therefore lend valuable evidence to the cross cultural context of entrepreneurship and business development.
