How does social media affect our lives today? Discuss
Social media definitely affects our lives today, don’t you think? Social media consists of websites and applications that enable us to create and share content, and also communicate. Social media itself has positive aspects, for instance online education including the news and informative websites; it also has many negative aspects such as a rise to cyberbullying and a lack of sleep. Study shows that most of these issues are mostly targeted at teenagers, which is also a problem in our society.

Social media can have a positive impact in our lives today due to all of the education websites and wikis where we interact by adding articles and editing existing articles. Most of these websites can be used for support in our studies or in schools. We tend to use the internet to catch up on news and what is going on around the world as well as research although we must be aware of false information. At least nine out of ten teenagers have internet access in the home, six of these students are using the internet for research and information and eight and a half of the ten students are using the internet for communication consisting of Facebook, Skype and many more. Despite the fact that social media can be useful, the negative aspects of social media definitely overshadow the positive.

Firstly, a lack of sleep has a large impact on the society today, especially on teenagers. Most people do not get enough sleep because they are up all night studying, working or just having fun. On the other hand, going without adequate sleep may result in both short and long term consequences. In the short term, lack of sleep judgment, mood, and ability to learn and retain information and will definitely increase the risk of serious injuries. In the long term, chronicle sleep may lead to a host of health problems such as obesity,…...

...Online Social Networking Dangers and Benefits Social Networking Site Dangers One of the most popular social networking sites is Facebook. While Facebook restricts members to those who use a ".edu" email address, this may give you a false sense of security. There are hundreds of thousands of active ".edu" email addresses of current students and alumni in just the United States and many of them can gain access to your site. Some colleges and universities will grant free email addresses to alumni; however, they do not always follow-up to check whether the individual is an actual alumni—therefore making it relatively easy to create false ".edu" accounts on Facebook and gain access to the site. Other social networking sites such as Myspace, Friendster, and Xanga offer even less security and protection because they are open to anyone. Because students often post detailed and specific information on Facebook (including phone numbers, addresses, class schedules, social plans, etc.) you can be more easily stalked by strangers (or even acquaintances). Impact on Schooling and Employment Students are getting in trouble with University administrators for incriminating and inappropriate information or pictures on their social networking profiles that are violations of school policy or the code of conduct. (Note: Administrators are not monitoring social networking sites; however, if information or pictures on a student's account that violate policy are brought to their......

...Effect of Social Media on Students Social media has evolved tremendously over the years. It has become nearly a necessity to people around the world. Why take away the social media if it helps us out so much and has made things more accessible? The truth is that social media has become almost as addictive as a drug and a use for chatting and doing things that are not important, when instead people could be out doing important things and building relationships. Social media distorts our views on society and the real world, affecting the way that people communicate and has made us more dependent on a screen than face-to-face. Social media is destroying the social skills of high school and college students for the following reasons including: it causes danger, social media includes cyber bullying, and it can cause personality and brain disorders. The first reason that social media has a bad effect on the social skills of young adults is that it can cause personality and brain disorders. A person on the internet can be everything that they think a person wants them to be to be the “cool” kid. This is a bad habit to develop because students might tend to show a personality that is not them. What will happen when they go out into the real world and communicate? It is plain and clear that they will feel tense and get nervous since being behind a computer screen does not require an individual to face that person and require an automatic reply.
