Gen Y

...Gen Y A SDSU associate professor Jean Twenge is concerned that Generation Y is becoming a narcissistic society. Social websites are increasing and the new trend Gen Y is doing is “self promoting”. Technology is becoming more advanced and Gen Y’s are more obsessed with their cell phones and I-pads rather than spending quality time with their families. Children prefer to watch popular shows such as “Sweet 16” and “Keeping up with the Kardashians” than the ABC news. Gen Y’s are too focused on the “self” and have lost their ability to live in a society that is not focused on the “self”. Online social websites such as Facebook, and YouTube are some of the highest rated websites. People are fascinated to either self promote or to gain self-confidence by watching other’s life style online. There is no boundaries sharing their information online and almost everything is about the self. People on YouTube advertise what they wear and what products they buy. YouTube gurus are trying to influence their viewers to gain self-esteem by looking a certain way. And in order to look confident you must by certain products. A college degree is not enough in a competitive work field because a certain image is now required. Twenge mentioned in her article that the competition is fierce. To get hired you must look and dress a certain way. Therefore, Gen Y’s are focused on the self and improving their self-ego and confidence to beat the competition. Everywhere we go we see people with some type......

Generation Y

...My Article is about our generation and how we are so different from any other generation. We are called the millennial’s also known as generation Y, millennial’s are people born between 1980-2000. How many of you have heard your parents say that you are so lazy, my generation wasn’t like this, all you guys do is sit on your phones? Well they’re right we are the laziest generation. Some people say our self centeredness could bring about the end of civilization as we know it, but others say we are the new greatest generation. It has been proven that we are the most narcissistic generation. We all think we are so different and better then everyone else. Look at social media for example, half the time people post things just to make people jealous. We’ve all done it and we see nothing wrong with it. But we got this way partly because of how we were raised, in the 1970’s they wanted to increase kids self esteem so they would always tell us “you’re the best”, “you’re the only one who can do this”. This is good but after a certain age it should stop. David McCullough Jr, an English teacher gave a 12 minute reality check called “You are not special” it has almost 2 million hits on youtube. He said “Climb the mountain so you can see the world, not so they can see you”. Technology is obviously a huge part of our generation and it is what makes us so different. We lack the kind of empathy that allows us to feel concerned for others; we even have trouble intellectually understanding......

Senator of the Philippines

...Marvic (Vic), Marcelino (Maru), and Valmar (Val) Sotto and a grandson and grandnephew of former Senators (Vicente Y. Sotto and Filemon Sotto). Vicente C. Sotto III, or “Tito” to many, was born on August 24, 1948, to Marcelino Ojeda Sotto and Dr. Herminia Castelo Sotto, who was a staunch women's rights activist and the first Medical Commissioner of Workmen's Compensation Commission and President Emeritus of the Kababaihang Rizalista ng Pilipinas. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree majoring in English at the Colegio de San Juan de Letran. He embarked in an Executive Program for Leaders in Development at the Harvard University John F. Kennedy School of Government that he completed in June 2000. He is married to Ms. Helen Gamboa of Pampanga, a beauty titlist and multi-awarded actress and singer. They have four children: Romina, Diorella, Gian and Ciara and two grandsons Romino and Victorio. A very well-versed actor but not a politician. Prior to his entry into public service, Senator Sotto was a well-known composer, actor and musical artist. He was a prime mover in the irreversible trend toward the popularity of the Filipino singers and local compositions during the 1970s and the 1980s when he was the Vice-President for production of the Vicor Group of Companies. Among his popular compositions is the song Magkaisa, considered the anthem of the 1986 People Power Revolution. Senator Sotto's television and movie career spans three decades starting in the 1970s to the......

Senators Letter

...James Thomas, Senator for the State of Oklahoma To the Congress of the United States of America: When our Constitution was first drafted the Founding Fathers argued long and hard about the inclusion of a Bill of Rights .The key reason the Founders finally united and agreed to pass a Bill of Rights, even though the Federalists had initially argued that a piece of paper could not act to protect individual freedoms, was because they felt there had to be a way to “oblige the government to control itself,” (Postell). There are many searches of colonists’ private homes and their inability to protect themselves from such intrusions by the British Crown led the Founders to pass the Fourth Amendment (Flex Your Rights Foundation). At its core, the Fourth Amendment protects the right of the people to be free from an absolute government intrusion and from a government that has run wild with its own power. The Fourth Amendment says (Findlaw): The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized. People have a right to feel safe in their houses and property cannot be lost to government action simply because the government has the power. To protect people from government intrusion and its...

They will eventually learn and succeed, gaining the experienced and enlightened by the present leaders. As Millennials Graff stated, “I think Gen Y is an outstanding workforce”; “we just have to bend a little more to get the best out of them”. While on the other hand we have Generation X, who were the witness of their parents sacrifice to their company and also grown up with high expectations. To protect their self-esteem they coddled Millennials and given them awards for everything they did. Generation Y is not lazy but confidence. Gen Y questions to authority contrary to the previous generations who suffered in silence. “They will not tolerate being treated poorly, and that’s been seen as a lack of respect”, said Montalbano. Additionally, Gen Y "want leaders who are inspiring, genuine and authentic", which makes they impressed by competence but not traditional authorities or titles. While in collaboration work, Gen Y needs to know the reason and the meaning for their......

Gen Y

...1) Recently, some marketers have noted that it is easier to develop communications programs to Generation X members than Generation Y. Briefly describe the characteristics of Gen X and Gen Y and whether or not you believe this to be true. There is some debate as to whether Gen X’ers (born between 1965-1978) or Gen Y’ers (1978 to 1986) is more easily targeted by marketers. Each of these groups has their own identifying characteristics. Generation X consumers are typically characterized as self-confident, yet distrustful of those of previous generations (and of marketing practices). They also tend to be less optimistic than their Gen Y counterparts. They are demanding consumers, less concerned with brand names and image and more concerned with quality. Gen Y consumers love to spend. They process information quickly, are quick to adopt new technologies and are more optimistic about the future. In the eyes of some, they are “shameless consumers”. Compared to Gen X they are less rooted in social mores, and buy because they like to do so. While marketers may argue that Gen X is hard to relate to and more cynical and skeptical than the Y’ers, once you have their trust, they will become loyal and remain so—making them an attractive segment. The key is getting their trust. On the other hand, reaching Gen Y is not as hard. They will buy based on wants rather than needs, focus on image and brands, and consume as a way of life. They are easier to reach given a proliferation of......

U Nited States Senator Paper

...Meagan Murray United States Senator Paper October 30, 2011 History 125 Being a radical republican makes it a necessity that we remain in control with complete power over both the north and the south. In order to achieve this we must implement a reconstruction of the United States. Restoring the south to the way it was prior to the war is an important issue that we must address and it should take president over the other issues that will arise on the path to reconstruction. In order to rebuild the South to its pre war stature we will need to establish new states, establish new governments, and rejuvenate the economy of the south. The affect of the civil war on the south has been total devastation that includes economic devastation, land devastation and personal devastation. There has been a complete shutdown of all transportation of goods which means that the goods and materials can not be moved from one place to another. For example, the steel that was created in Alabama can not get to Georgia where it is needed to build factories. The main points of my reconstruction plan are that we need to punish the South for their acts of treason in not supporting the Union and we need to ensure that we protect the rights of the freed slaves. If we do not impose stricter polices the South will revert back to the same social and......

...damas y caballeros. Ladies and gentlemen. Today we have gathered here to talk about forthcoming issues at hand. About problems that find even the tiniest hole to creep into our society. And what I believe today hermanos, is that the greatest problem right now is los enemigos disfrazados de amigos; our enemies disguised as friends. Even before I officially became president in 1917, The United States, recognized me as the de facto president in 1915. I had supported our light skinned friends by sending troops to support a Mexican American rebellion. But I did not realize then what I had done. I was growing a problem that Diaz had planted. Dicen que Diaz era la madre de los extranjeros y su madrastra del pueblo mexicano. They say that Diaz was the mother to foreginers and the stepmothers to hs own fellow Mexicans. During his presidency, Diaz had sold Mexico, to Foreginers. Under the presidency of Porfirio Díaz, foreign mining and oil companies had received generous concessions from the government in order to develop natural resources. Deje que este discurso sea mi declaración de mi intención de devolver la riqueza de petróleo y carbón para el pueblo de México . LEt this statement be my declaration of my intention to return the wealth of oil and coal to the people of Mexico. In terms of mining I urge that we raise taxes on the mining companies, and remove the right of diplomatic recourse for mining companies, and declare their actions subject to the Mexican......

Senator Paper

...Assuming the role of a Radical Republican Senator including arguing the Radical Republicans position of Reconstruction requires examining the highlights of Andrew Johnson’s Reconstruction views for the Union, which include developing an oath under which Caucasian southerners would have to accept upon regaining personal civil including political rights furthermore all property excluding slaves would be given back to the owners. Confederate hierarchies including individuals whose property was worth a specific amount of money were discounted from taking the oath in which these individuals had to apply for an independent pardon. Under Johnson’s plan states had draft new congress including the election of state officials including congress for recognition of new state government and martial law retracted from the state. Ex-confederates influenced Andrew Johnson by methods of threatening his life, which made Johnson conform to ex-confederate influences by writing pardon after pardon while in the public spotlight Andrew Johnson’s proclaim to Reconstruction was complete. Deriving from Johnson’s absurd claim were few followers representing Moderate Republicans who conformed to Johnson while possessing some views similar to Radical Republicans who openly opposed Andrew Johnson’s Reconstruction methods. Radical Republicans idea of Reconstruction centralized on making a mirror copy of the North out of the South while Moderate Republicans hold no regard for social revolution or......

Gen Y

...Gen Y Case * The differences between Gen Y (also known as the Millennial Generation or Generation Next) and the previous generation form the core issue in this case. This case is revolves around two characters, Josh Lewis and his boss Sarah Bennett. While Josh is a marketing associate with Rising Entertainment, Sarah is the marketing Chief of the movie division. The main issue is that there is a somewhat lack of mutual understanding between the two characters which may be crudely attributed to the generation gap between the duo. Rising Entertainment, one of the top three multimedia production and distribution houses in the world, was in process of releasing the fourth instalment (Fire Force Five-Ignition) of the extremely successful Fire Force Five movie series. The previous three movies released over the past 10 years had grossed more than $2.4 billion. Sarah, who was responsible for the distribution and marketing plan for the Triple-F series was, therefore, pretty obviously extremely concerned and careful about getting the same done in the best possible manner. She had done perhaps done even more than what constituted her responsibility including: * Leveraging her relationship with the reporters of various magazines, which she had forged over the years, to get behind-the-scenes and making-of feature articles placed in the magazines. * Overseeing the high-impact trailer that was to be reviewed in a meeting in which she was to make a presentation to the CEO Sam......

...Name Address December 15, 2011 Senator John Smith U.S.Senate 241 Russell Senate Office Building Washington, DC 20510-0001 Subject: Proposed Television Ban of Violent Movies and Shows during the hours of 5:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Dear Senator Smith, As your constituent I urge you, as a Member of the Senate, to support the proposed Ban of Violent Movies and Shows during the hours of 5:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. The violence promoted by the media has a profound and degradating effect on the younger generation, as is evidenced by the amount of violence in school all the way down to the Elementary level. We must be diligent in the protection of our children’s physical and mental well being by monitoring the amount of depravity they are subjected to. Statistics have shown that children with behavioral, emotional, learning or impulse control issues, such as mine, are more easily influenced by the violence shown on TV. In a study done by the Parents Television Council (PTC) [http://www.parentstv.org/PTC/publications/reports/violencestudy/exsummary.asp] it was shown that violence on TV had increased by 75% between 1998 and 2005. With Television shows like C.S.I. , Dexter, and True Blood appealing to the younger generation, and placed in timeslots when these children would be watching TV, Cable networks are currently contributing to the sexualization and the aggressiveness of the younger generations. Researchers from the University of Michigan have published......
