Unemployment

...Fresh Graduated Am I to be unemployed? What should I do? Where should I refer and go? By P Aruna, The Star ( Sunday, 17 July 2011) PETALING JAYA: Poor attitude -including asking for too much money - is the chief reason why employers shy away from hiring fresh graduates. Another common complaint is that many graduates are poor in English. A survey by online recruitment agency Jobstreet.com showed that 55% of employers cited unrealistic expectations of salaries while 48% of them said poor English was the main reason why Malaysian fresh graduates from both public and private institutions remain unemployed. “While previous surveys named poor English as the main cause for unemployment, bad attitude has now topped the list,” said its chief operating officer Suresh Thiru. He said their attitudes were so bad that some did not even bother to inform the companies if they were running late or unable to attend scheduled interviews. It was announced that the number of jobless graduates had increased from 65,500 to 71,600 although the overall unemployment rate had dropped from 3.4% last year to 3.1% during the first quarter of this year. Another study by recruitment agency Kelly Services showed that fresh graduates asked for flexible working hours and expected their work to accommodate their personal life, not vice versa. Its marketing director Jeannie Khoo said employers were also turned off by the lackadaisical attitude and lack of drive to improve among many......

Maria Kast authorized us to talk about the admissions process at UT for the purposes of our class and gave us a tour of the facility that house the Office of Graduate and Continuing studies (OGCS). Jake, Florian and Ivy also conducted the interview of Iris. Iris is one of the graduate assistants dealing with the GPA calculation process for international students seeking acceptance in the graduate programs at the University of Tampa. She provided the team with insights as to how the process goes to calculate and compute the GPA of international applicants. She also explained how the NOLIJ Computer System is used by the Office of Graduate and Continuing Studies to store, retrieve, and verify information concerning international applicants. Iris also talked on our behalf to Juliana, another graduate assistant at OCGS and Juliana explained further to Iris about the storage of the data concerning applicants. Prior to July 199 7, Asia was seen as a region exemplifying success in economic growth and development. Between 1991 to 1996, the Malaysian econom y grew at an ave rage rate of m ore than 8% . Howev er, Mala ysia could no t shield itself from being negatively impacted by the 1997 Asian Financial Crisis where the nation suffered a 7.5% c ontraction in its Gross D omestic P roduct (G DP) in 1 998. In 2000, M alaysia had a workforce (defined as persons between 15-64 years old) of slightly above 9 million. About 60% of the workforce were below 35 years of age. Union members accounted for about 8.15% of the labour force. Unemployment was reported at 3% of the labor force, and foreign workers accounted for one out of every seven jobs (Malaysia 1996-1998, 1996 ). Offering Higher Post to the Fresh Graduates Towards Employee Satisfaction: an Empirical Study on Private Commercial Banks of Bangladesh

...specialized development banks, thirty eight private commercial Banks and nine foreign commercial banks. Hence we can easily say that the private commercial banks (PCBs) comprise for the largest portion of the banking sector. The banking sector has attracted a lot of fresh graduates for a very long time because of their work environment and other facilities that they provide. Moreover, the work environment and culture of the private commercial banks are such that the employees are motivated to work and prove themselves to their employers. One such approach made by PCBs was to offer a higher post to the young, newly hired graduates as they believed that this would help to increase employee satisfaction. This strategy has by many means been successful as well as a little unsuccessful for the banks. The overall study shows that simply hiring employees in higher posts cannot increase their overall job satisfaction; rather, a lot of other factors also need to be considered in order to ensure the satisfaction of the employees. 2.0 OBJECTIVE The main objective of this paper is to show how much effective the attempt was made by the owners of the PCBs to increase employee satisfaction by recruiting the fresh graduates in higher posts. For this reason, we have worked with six such commercial banks and interviewed their employees to find out the present scenario. With the vast array of PCBs that are operating in Bangladesh, it is by every means the most sought job sector by the......

A total of 3,025 Malaysian graduates involved in the study and data were analyzed using logistic regression analysis. The results show that the employment prospects of graduates with a good command of English and who possess leadership and technical skills are better when compared to those without these skills. These findings suggest that steps should be taken to improve soft skills among graduates. The results also show that Indian and female graduates in this study were found to have less chance of being employed compared to the Malay and Chinese graduates. However, these findings should be interpreted with caution as some of the respondents were not randomly selected, thus suggesting further research towards identifying the relevant factors is required. Keywords: Unemployment, graduates, logistic regression, mismatch, leadership and technical skills, education 1. INTRODUCTION Malaysia‟s economy had been growing at an annual rate of 6.6% for the past three decades; yet unemployment rates have increased from 2.6%......
