Local and US Rotary club assist youth org in Baguio
Our local news is full of items on street fighting involving mostly the youth. These incidents are not helping boost the already downcast image of the city brought about by the garbage problem.
It is in this light that the Rotary Club of Baguio North (RCBN) in partnership with the Rotary Club of Mission Valley (RCMV), San Diego, USA came to the agreement of funding a project for the youth, primarily to help them focus on more wholesome and fruitful activities.
RCBN and RCMV agreed to help the Chiro Youth Organization. Said organization is an existing one and is operated by volunteers. However, due to its very limited financial capability, it is unable to implement and sustain its programs and expand its membership to invite more youth to its activities.
Through RCBN, RCMV and the Rotary Foundation awarded CYO the amount of 25,650 US Dollars. With the funds, CYO was able to finance the members’ uniforms and purchased camping tents. The funds will also be used to acquire important office equipment like a laptop, printer and ink cartridges, filing cabinets, working desks, chairs and a cellphone.
Last summer, CYO organized a youth camp where among the topics discussed included gender sensitivity, environment issues, and migration. CYO hopes to conduct youth camps twice a year.
RCBN and RCMV are currently being headed by Oscar B. Cadeliňa and Walter Ladwig, Jr. as club presidents, respectively. Atty. Carlos Canilao, a member and a past president of RCBN is one of the contact persons in the club regarding the CYO project. Press Release
