Homework – Birch Paper Company

1) Fill in the missing prices and costs on the “Diagram of the alternatives” and “Costs of the alternatives” which are attached.

On the “Diagram of the alternatives”, fill in the amounts indicated in the nine dotted ovals. Some amounts may be easy to find in the case, some will need to be computed from case information, and some you will not be able to ascertain from case data; for the latter, write “don’t know”.

On the “Costs of the alternatives”, complete the table using relevant amounts from the “Diagram of the alternatives”, and compute the net cost to Birch for each of the three choices.

NOTE: In the case, the term “out-of-pocket costs” means variable costs.

2) On your completed “Diagram of the alternatives”, indicate which bid Mr. Kenton (Northern Division) will accept (based purely on economic considerations) by circling it and labeling it accordingly.

3) On your completed “Costs of the alternatives”, indicate which alternative is in the best interest of Birch Paper as a whole (based purely on economic considerations) by circling it and labeling it accordingly.

...Financial Statements Kevin Standring ACC 225 September 21 2012 GARRY KIRK Financial Statements There are four different financial statements. Each financial statement is used in different ways. Let us start with the Income Statement. This statement tells a company where and if it made money. Investors will use this statement when deciding if they would like to invest in a company or not. With this statement they will be able to tell if the company is likely to make a profit or lose it. Next you have a Statement of Owner’s Equity. This statement shows the changes in equity over a period of time. It starts with the initial investment and shows what changed the amount of equity such as an owner investing more money into the company or withdrawing more money. The information on in this statement is calculated and used on a balance sheet. This statement is very helpful to show where money was brought in and where it was taken out. This statement leads us to a Balance Sheet. A Balance sheet shows the different kinds of assets, liabilities and equities it also shows the amount of each. The balance sheet also shows how much cash flow a company has at the time of the report. Last but not least you have a Statement of Cash Flow. This statement shows the end cash flow after all the income is added together and all the bills get paid. This is important cause it shows you how much money you have at the end of the year....

...acc Accrual V.S. Cash Accounting Miguel Gonzalez ACC/290 August 3, 2012 Dr. Dorothy Welch In this assignment, I will describe the cash basis of accounting and the accrual basis of accounting and will explain the difference. Cash Basis accounting is the easy and less expensive method of accounting. In this method of accounting, cash is recognized when the physical cash transaction occurs. Thus, this method does not recognize payables, receivables, and prepaid expenses. Additionally, cash basis accounting does not comply with the revenue recognition principle and the matching principle. In accrual basis of accounting, revenue is recognized when it is earned and expenses are recognized when they are incurred. Susan Ward states, “Accrual basis accounting gives the most accurate picture of the financial state of your business.” We are essentially keeping track of the most current business practices, such as to who owes who money, and service. When the customer owes us money, we create an accounts receivable. When we owe money we create an accounts payable. When we pay cash before an expense we create a deferred expense account. There are key differences between the methods of accounting. In cash basis, taxable income may be deferred to the next year due to delays in billing. However, in accrual basis, the company might have to pay taxes on income before payment is received. Under the cash basis method, there is no company...

...ort presents findings from research comparing employment equity policies in Canada’s 10 provinces and the federal government. We approach the issue of employment equity from the standpoint of challenging systemic oppression. We have sought to describe, explain and suggest ways to rectify a perceived impasse in the effective implementation of employment equity policy regarding the implications it holds for the advancement of visible minority women within the provincial government sector. We premised our study on a recognizable gap between legislative policy designed to promote greater workplace diversity for groups that have experienced systemic oppression within Canada, and the effective implementation of such policies in the workplace. This study combined two elements in its methodological approach. The first was based on policy analysis, the second on a series of qualitative interviews with equity policy stakeholders in, or dependent on, provincial governments. We developed such a methodology to provide an overview of the state of employment equity policy as it is currently formulated in the provincial governments of Canada and at the same time, to assess these policy packages in terms of implementation. This policy study includes a province-by-province general review of the state of employment equity policy across Canada. In Canada’s provinces today, the climate of debate on employment equity stands along a spectrum, from extreme commitment to extreme opposition to the......

The purpose of the Committee is to maintain property values by protecting the environmental and architectural integrity of the Subdivision in accordance with the provisions of the Declaration. ...MATTEL, Inc. BYP8-5 November 3, 2011 ACC 557 Jerry Mays Manhattan Company 1234 Long Lane Manhattan, New York 11131 November 3, 2011 Mr. Mays, I hope this letter finds you well. As the new auditor for the CPA firm of Croix, Marais, and Kale, I would like to offer some suggestions to your great company for your internal controls. When having a strong internal control system, the internal controls are established to perform the following: 1. “Safeguard its assets from employee theft, robbery, and unauthorized use. 2. Enhance the accuracy and reliability of its accounting records. This is done by reducing the risk of errors (unintentional mistakes) and irregularities (intentional mistakes and misrepresentations) in the accounting process” (Weygandt, Kimmel, Kieso, p.340, 2010). After reviewing some of your financial records and looking into your internal control system, they are some valuable suggestions I would like to recommend to your company. “Control is most effective when only one person is responsible for a given task (Weygandt, Kimmel, Kieso, p.341).” Your company possesses weakness in the following areas: establishment of responsibility (assign responsibility to specific employees) and segregation of duties (separation of duties) and documentation procedures. Your checks are properly endorsed; however, there should be a record of what checks are deposited. This way the......

...Week 4 Weekly Reflection ACC 300 Team Member 1 For any organization, household, or business it is vital to maintain internal controls on procedures and records. Maintaining control of these principles once put in place permits activities to get the larger picture. Internal control principles include independent internal investigations or surprise inspections that are conducted by an outside source with no hidden agenda to the company. These inspectors follow procedures to reduce fraud and misuse and enhance accounting accuracy by examining documents of transactions received and performed. To balance accounting records bank reconciliation and adjusting entries are a necessary process to aid in identifying errors. The possibility of miscalculations deliberately or inadvertently can be distressing without the skill or the expertise to conduct proper control measures for a household or company. This week’s objectives can be easily understood providing managers apply applicable control types and keep the business accounting principles flowing correctly.
