...ABORTION PRO CHOICE OR PRO LIFE April 11, 2013 PROFESSOR DANIEL HAYNES PHI 103 INFORMAL LOGIC Abortion is the termination of a pregnancy and expulsion of fetus from the uterus resulting in or cause by death of the embryo. The debate over the legal and ethical viability of abortion has been complicated by the lack of consensus in defining whether the developing embryo can be equated as human life. Many people are constantly debating whether or not abortion should be allowed or not. I believe in Pro Choice which believes that woman should have the right to decide if she wants to abort a baby or not. In this paper, I will look at abortions critically and express why abortion should be legal and be left us to a woman to decide. The goal is to point out reason why one might choose abortion. While one is Pro-Choice in the case of abortion, and feels that is should be legal and the choice of a woman. Upon reading the statement on what is pro-choice and how and when abortion is legalized. I will go over why I feel that abortions should be legal. Unwanted pregnancies can be very stressful for woman. Whether or not the woman has the right to have an abortion or not is a controversial subject. Prolife members believe that abortions are seriously wrong and killing a fetus is killing a person. However, woman should have the right to have an abortion for several reasons. Woman should have the right to make decision for their own bodies. Woman should be able to have an...

Sylvia Ji

...Sylvia Ji Sylvia Ji was born in 1982, and raised in San Francisco, California, where she received her BFA at the Academy of Art University. Upon graduation in 2005, she relocated to Los Angeles where she currently resides. Ji's work has been featured in numerous gallery exhibitions including White Walls, Thinkspace, BLVD Gallery, and Art Basel's Art Fair Now. She has been profiled in publications such as Juxtapoz, Trace, and Mesh Magazine, and her painting 'Dona Dolorosa' was on the cover of the LA Weekly. Sylvia Ji is a master of capturing the dark side of the beautiful and the sublime. Macabre 'Day Of The Dead' catrinas mix with exotic empresses, with a haunting elegance. Ji's imagery is a visual mix of life and death, combining sacred symbols with mystical and sometimes glamorous images. Influenced by historical costumes, Ji incorporates details such as luxurious tapestries, ornamental feathers, and gold leafing into her work to achieve a more elaborate and decorative effect.   Ji's work creates an enticing beauty that is modern and cutting edge while also incorporating time-honored technique. Her paintings are symbolic reflections of herself, portraits of people she knows or nameless faces set in a landscape of strange, decaying beauty. Her voice is unique, at once contemplative, spiritual, mysterious and yet whimsical and funny. Above all else, it is beauty that emerges as her real object, and her art reflects this. It is both an extension of herself and a......

Pro Choice

...Pro-Choice Abortion is a topic that has invaded the sanctity of our dinner table conversations, our English papers and even our court rooms. We are bombarded with those who are pro-life calling abortion doctors “baby-killers.” They complain about how abortion is unmoral, and how God wants us to choose life over death, but they seem to have no problem taking out their own frustrations on the doctor’s performing these procedures or their patients. The “pro-lifers” seem to think that abortion laws were just thrown together by uncaring “baby-killers” instead of Supreme Court justices. The fact is abortion used to be illegal. It wasn’t until the case of Roe Vs. Wade that the Supreme Court decided that a woman had the right to an abortion as long as certain guidelines were established and followed. The guidelines that were established following the Roe vs. Wade decisions are or still in effect today. The current Legislature says that the “state may not regulate abortion at all during the first trimester”( http://members.aol.com/abtrbng/conlaw.htm). That means that if a woman decides during the first three months of her pregnancy to abort the child she has the legal right to do so. The state’s interest during the first trimester is to the mother’s well-being. What is so special about the first 3 months? Well during the first three months the child is unable to survive outside of the mother’s womb, therefore dependent on the mother. During the second......

Abortion; Pro-Life or Pro-Choice

...ABORTION; PRO-LIFE OR PRO-CHOICE Some people believe that abortion is immoral and some people don’t. Morality is an interpersonal conflict over a decision between right and wrong (“Morality”). The question is what reasons people have for their beliefs for and against abortion and whether those reasons are reasonable or not? There are two main groups of people in the case of abortion, pro-life supporters and pro-choice supporters. On the one hand, pro-life supporters, those who think abortion is not right, consider a fertilized human egg a human being from the moment of conception. Therefore, they refer to abortion as murder. On the other hand, the pro-choice supporters, those in favor of abortion, have a different perspective. They believe that a fetus is a human only after birth. The moral difference between these groups encompasses one issue. That is “At what stage is a fertilized egg considered a human being?” According to Peter Singer, there are four general stages that the pro-lifers and the pro-choicers argue about in terms of the standing of a fetus. They are: “birth, viability, quickening and the onset of consciousness” (138). The arguments made by the two groups for and against each of these stages causes the standing of an embryo to be upgraded to that of a child in the long run, as Singer suggests (138). Thus, this paper will examine and analyze the four moral junctures for the status of the fetus -“birth, viability,......

Pro-Life vs Pro-Choice

...Pro-Choice vs. Pro-Life People love to argue. Not in a screaming at each other because the peanut butter lid was left off again kind of way, but with intentions of being progressive. With a little bit of structure to an argument, it ends up being more of a debate and is usually enjoyable, especially if you win. Since people have been debating for so long, and like to do it, you would think that there would be a surefire way to come to a mutual understanding. However, certain topics will be debated until the end of time before there is ever any sort of resolution. When it comes to abortion, seldom is somebody without an opinion; and others could not be more rooted in their beliefs. In order to form an objective opinion it is imperative to understand both sides of a debate and then make a decision based on the facts. On the matter of abortion, the logic behind being pro-choice is more objective and therefore the stronger viewpoint. The first step in choosing a stance on abortion is to understand what the different beliefs are. There are two main beliefs on the matter: pro-life and pro-choice. A recent poll shows that about 51 percent of Americans are pro-life while 42 percent are pro-choice (Operation). According to the world’s oldest and largest pro-life organization, the mission of the pro-life belief is “to protect and defend the most fundamental right of humankind, the right to life of every innocent human being from the beginning of life to natural death”......

Pro Choice or Pro Life?

...RUNNING HEAD: PRO CHOICE 1 Pro Choice or Pro Life? Richard W. Emmendorfer PHI 103 Dr. Stephen Carter 28 October 2013 Abortion, sometimes viewed as a permanent solution to a temporary problem, should be or remain legal for specific cases involving victims of rape, significant medical conditions that would jeopardize the safety of the birth or guarantee severe birth deformities. Unwed adolescent parents are who are deemed unfit or who would not be able to provide adequate care should also be determined as a qualifying circumstances. Victims of rape would have a constant reminder of the experience weighing heavily on their mental health and would hold prejudice toward this child versus other children. An article from The Nation (2009) details that Regina Alves, a psychologist at a domestic violence center in Brazil, insists that when it comes to working with a victim of violence, “what matters is what she says.” (Sokoloff-Rubin, 2009) A testimony from a woman who was made pregnant from a rape when she was 15 accounts how different the child resulting from the rape is compared to her other children. "My first husband verbally abused her. I never have had, and still don't have, the maternal feelings for her that I have for my other kids. We're good friends and I so love her, but it's like we're sisters. I wish she could have had a more normal life.” (Meehan, 2013, p. 33) The mental stability of the victim and how the victim sees the child is......

Pro-Choice

...Abortion has been a controversial topic in America for a very long time. Society believes that abortion is immoral and considers abortion to be murder. People that do not support, or “pro-lifers”, believe that if abortion were illegal there would not be any abortions performed. However, over 70,000 maternal deaths occur every year due to unsafe abortions (AboutNews). These women die making the idea of pro-life extremely contradictory. The government should not be able to make medical decisions for women in America. Pro-choice is necessary in America so women who have life threatening conditions due to their pregnancy or are victims of sexual crimes are given reproductive freedom. Women who are victims of rape or incest should not be forced to carry out a pregnancy. Pro-choice means that all women should have the right to make their own choice when it comes to their body. If a woman is raped and becomes pregnant, the idea of keeping the child may or may not be too much for her to psychologically deal with. People who believe in Pro-choice have sympathy for this woman, whereas Pro-life supporters call her a murderer. Society must accept that women who are victims of these crimes deal with the issue differently and regardless of your own opinion, it is simply not right for the government to take away a woman’s choice to terminate a pregnancy if she so chooses. ...Pros of Immigration Irineo JR Nunez BCOMM/275 02/19/2015 Wesley Page Pros of Immigration “With over 11 million immigrants in the United States illegally (as of 2012), the issue of illegal immigration continues to divide Americans,” (What Are the Solutions to Illegal Immigration in America?, 2014). I feel this statement should be corrected and instead of the word “divide” it should be “unite”. Reason being is for decades and centuries immigrants around the world have traveled to different countries for the same common goal. To better ourselves and with hard work we will persue to our personal growth. Here in United States, people say that with illegal immigration in our states will have the benift to increase our US economy through additional tax revenue, the increase of money circulation, and low-cost labor. Many Americans despite immigration because immigrants come to United States soil with motivation and replace those who wont perform specific job duties. Illegal immigration can benefit us in numerous ways and according to the website apecsec.org, it states, “Illegal migrants who own real estate properties will be obliged to pay taxes and this will benefit the country where they go. Real estate agents including the brokers will get commission coming from the real estate transactions made between them and the immigrants. Financial & auto insurance loans will make the country’s income even higher,” (Illegal Immigration Pros and Cons, 2014). Also, giving......

Pro Forma

...Analyzing Pro Forma Statements Christopher Radko has been in business for thirty years making blown glass Christmas ornaments. They have expanded their line to include snow globes and cookie jars and even a line of jewelry. I propose that Christopher Radko market a new product to their collectors; a home décor line that showcases their style. This line would include throw pillows, rugs, paintings and tabletop accent pieces. Pro Forma statements are hypothetical assumptions of a company for a time span, in this case five years. Taking an already successful company and adding to the line can be both a good idea and tricky because the customer base can split two ways. They can either decide that they love the addition and buy it or become upset at the perception that the company is changing its product line. A pro forma statement can include and exclude whatever the company feels is relevant or irrelevant; onetime expenses are usually not used in pro forma statements either. The pro forma guidelines are not as strict as generally accepted accounting principles. The calculations that were arrived to for Christopher Radko show how the line would be beneficial if it included a new home décor line. It is worth mentioning that the net income does not reflect one time buys therefore the pro forma statement does not reflect that information. While it was not shown in the attached pro forma statement there are companies that write off merchandise to in attempt to manipulate their......

Pro Life vs Pro Choice

...Kathleen Sacchetti Professor Brenza Essay-2 March 17th 2015 Pro-life vs. Pro-choice The issue of abortion in the United States will always be a controversial one. Developing two sides of the debate, pro-life and pro-choice. Pro-life are the individuals who do not believe in the option of abortion. Pro-choice are the individuals who believe every woman has the choice to go through with their pregnancy or to not. Despite their contrasts, pro-life and pro-choice explore valid ideas of religion, law and health care in their debates. Supporters of the movement pro-life vs pro-choice use religion to justify their beliefs. Pro-choice looks to Judaism for their answers. They have this idea that since God created every human being, we are all significant beings. Pro-choice advocates researched more information to support their statement and found this one by Moses. “[I have set before thee life and death, blessing and cursing. Therefore, choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live]” (Bennett). This quote seems to be bashing pro-choice, but it is actually supporting it. According to the Jewish law and practice, a fetus is not considered a human until they can breathe their own air independently, so abortion is not considered a murder, or a life taken. But in the pro-life debate, they turn to Roman Christianity, which claims that the moment of conception is the start of new life. Pro-life advocates believe that all abortion is murder, and have no empathy for the women...

Why Ji-Utai Play Multiple Roles and What the Function of Ji-Utai

...Music History Why Ji-utai Play Multiple Roles and What the Function of Ji-utai Abstract This essay is stared to consider the question that why the chorus (Ji-utai) play a multiple roles in a play. In order to answer this question, this essay firstly introduce the representative two different opinions, which considering the function of the chorus in Noh. And it evaluated which is more reasonable from different perspectives. Then finally it concludes that the chorus conveys the emotion of the scene and help the audience to be absorbed in the play. Introduction In traditional Noh dramas, some passages of the play are chanted by a chorus instead of by the main characters such as the shite and the waki. In modern performances, this chorus (ji-utai) sits at the side of the stage as a group. Unlike the primary actors, the member of the chorus do not wear an elaborate costume. The choruses play a significant role for the Noh performance because half of the text are chanted by the ji-utai. For example, the chorus sometimes play the role of the Shite(principle actor) and sometimes becomes a narrator in a same play. However, the meaning of those chorus’s chanting is covered in mystery with various views. Therefore, this essay will introduce two significant opinions which describes the meaning of the chorus, standing in a different point of view and evaluate both of them. Then finally this paper will consider what the meaning and function of the chorus (Ji-utai). ......

Skadurz Pro

...Skadurz Pro Firm Overview Skadurz Pro is a family owned and operated business, Joel St. Marseille is the owner and his mother Connie St. Marseille is the full time manager. Skadurz Pro sells skateboard and snowboard equipment as well as clothing, shoes, and accessories and is located in Sudbury, Ontario. The case issue with Skadurz Pro is the decision of which store to keep open, the South End location where the building is up for sale and the future of the building and store is unknown and dependant on the buyer of the building or the New Sudbury location where competitor West 49 would be opening a store right across the street. Internal Perspectives Keeping the South End location, leads to an unknown future for the company. Will the new building owner want to renew the stores lease? Keeping the New Sudbury location open where competitor West 49 is moving in will affect store sales. Is it worth the risk to keep that location open? This store has been open at this location for 10 years and is well known by customers. St Marseille worries about the success of the New Sudbury location once West 49 opens and estimates that in fiscal year 2004 annual store sales at this location would total $350,000 and all other expenses would remain comparatively stable. External Perspectives The skateboarding and snowboarding business in Ontario has really grown. Skateboarding became a popular sport and by 2004 there were nine city skateboard parks and plans to......

Pro-Life

...Pro-Life The birth of a child is no mistake or mishap, and their life is no fluke of nature. Soon to be parents may not have planned to have a child, but God did. He was not at all surprised by the conception of a new child. In fact, God expected it; He planned this for the “parents to be” a long time before the baby was even conceived by its parents. God thought about that child and loved them before his or her first heat beat. It was not fate, nor chance, nor luck, nor coincidence that you are breathing at this very moment. Everyone is alive because God wanted to create them! The Bible says, “The Lord will fulfill His purpose for me.”  Abortion is the termination of pregnancy before birth, resulting in, or accompanied by, the death of the fetus. It has become one of the most widely debated ethical issues of our time. Considering what is ethical and what is legal in terms of abortion becomes very complex. The ethical concerns that revolve around the abortion issue are those that encompass a great many ideals – both religious and personal – that have to do with an individual’s concept of right and wrong. To some, the ethical implications mean allowing the woman her right to choose; to others, it is no different than murder.    Do you consider something with a beating heart a living creature? Likely, before a woman even has knowledge of being pregnant, at five weeks, a baby’s heart is already formed and beating. Therefore that would make abortion a form of murder...

Nonlinear Pro

...After viewing the Litigation and Alternatives video, we see that Quick Takes has come to a disagreement regarding the arrangement for use of Nonlinear Pro’s video editing system. The situation has escalated to the point that Nonlinear Pro has filed suit against Quick Takes for defaulting on a lease payment. At this juncture, Quick Takes and Nonlinear Pro must now decide how they wish to proceed to come to a resolution regarding this scenario. When comparing the next steps for the parties involved with this suit, a choice must be made to move forward with traditional litigation or seek alternative dispute resolution (ADR). Traditional litigation is sometimes referred to as judicial dispute resolution, because it involves the judiciary or legal system in the incident. Traditional litigation can be a “difficult, time-consuming, and costly process that must comply with complex procedural rules” (Cheeseman, 2010). This process involves all major phases of the legal process starting with the pre-trial litigation process of pleadings, moving into the discovery phase, followed by any dismissals and pretrial judgments, and rounding out with a potential pre-trial settlement conference. This portion alone can take quite some time. Once this process is complete and if neither side comes to a conclusion, the suit will move forward into the actual trial phase in which the courts will hear both sides of the case. The trial phase of tradition litigation is variable in length of time......
