People in Poland start to BELIEVE in food. They become aware consumers for whom the content of their plate defines who they are
„It is a ruin indeed“ - I told to my friend while I was taking a picture of the remains of once great market hall located on Koszykowa street in Warsaw’s downtown. „You’d better go inside“- he anwsered with a mysterious smile.
With the first step inside, I knew that I entered a „foodies temple“. I immediately felt the wonderful mixture of various smells including fresh herbes, roasted meat and sweet vanilla. Despite the little traffic to my ears came the multitude of sounds. Tinkling glasses, shrimps sizzling in a frying pan, clatter of knives... I simply couldn’t wait more to satisfy the other senses – the sight and and especially the taste.

Koszyki – a slow food market with history

I

I decided to visit Koszyki after my grandpa’s recommendation. Built in 1906, this now practically devastated market, used to be the place of Warsaw’s residents‘ frequent visits. „You could find there products that didn’t appear on the shelves in the shops“ - he told me. „I remember your grandma’s shopping there. I couldn’t pull her out, she was in her element.“
The image of the market hall in my head created by grandpa differed, however, from Koszyki‘s present appearance. Only two outbuildings remained from this previously large retail space. I visited one of them with my friend, the one which was restored to its former function.
Since the beginning, this place made a huge impression on me. The whole bunch of smells and sounds which greeted me, encouraged me to look around. I was standing in a narrow room with high ceiling. There was a long wooden bar painted in emerald green. It was surrounded by people sitting on classy velvet chairs. Two young bartenders were preparing some drinks. They seemed very focused and proffessional.

...part of every society. It tells of the history of the people, their culture and it depicts at each phase, what the society is going through. In today's fast paced era, people are almost always preoccupied with the chores of today and the concerns of tomorrow and they hardly find time to devote in appreciating various artforms which may have been one of their several childhood interests. Also, people's interests are increasingly changing and aligning with the art attractions of the latest century like metal music over classical or carnatic, plastic decorative furniture over ancient terracota for their homes and so on. Thus, largely lack of government funding can endanger the flourishing of arts and their availability to all people. Government ignoring the arts can lead to a loss of history. An example is Nigeria. All around the country are works of art were exhumed from the ground years ago: the figurines in Esie, the works of Nok, the golden tusks in Benin. The government doesn’t fund the arts and today works of Nigerian arts are found in museums all over the world . They are in the Louvre in Paris, museums in Italy and London but can hardly be found in Nigeria. The few ones left are in such a terrible state; information provided on the work seem bogus and inaccurate. Whereas in other nations like Italy, France, the original works of arts hang in such places as the Louvre and Vatican city and tells the story of the people because Government funds the arts there. "Hamlet's Ghost- to Believe or Not to Believe”

...Vickie Shipley Professor Marek ENC 1102, SEC 87 27 October, 2013 Drama Essay: "Hamlet's Ghost- To Believe or Not to Believe” Of all the plays written by William Shakespeare, Hamlet is the most intriguing. As the plot develops, themes such as indecision, deceit and revenge become apparent. As is expected, questions about the characters' motives arise as these themes are portrayed. Questions regarding Hamlet's love for Ophelia or his sanity arise. However, these questions develop throughout the story. The most important question arises at the beginning of the story in Act 1, and affects Hamlet’s every thought and action thereafter. Is the King's ghost a good spirit, merely seeking justice or an evil spirit sent to corrupt Hamlet? Perhaps the ghost is genuinely that of the dead king, but the fact that the ghost uses Hamlet to exact revenge and demands he commit the mortal sin of murder, clearly shows it to be an evil, malicious demon from hell. During the era in which Hamlet was written, there was a common belief of demonic intrusion, and corruption by the devil. Even today, it is not too difficult to find people who will agree that specters are evil demons, sent up from the bowels of hell to corrupt and destroy the living. In fact, a recent CBS poll reveals that almost half of all Americans believe in evil spirits, and that the dead can return in certain places and situations (Alfano). Because of this belief, the appearance of the spirit, along with the assumption of......

Head Start or False Start

... | | | December 21,2013 | [Head Start or false start] | A strategy to adequately plan projects in the intense and rapid changing healthcare setting of today is imperative to implementing successful projects. | Executive Summary Currently, healthcare is one of the leading topics across the nation ranging from quality improvements to cost reductions. No matter the public focus, projects have become a major part of health systems large and small. As complex projects trend upward in the healthcare industries, the implementation for project management best practices has become a necessity. Many organizations lack experienced project management methods and may even neglect to see the importance of such principles. These factors along with the extreme pressures to execute projects quickly and effectively has given light to increased project false starts. A project false start negatively impacts the project, the organization morale, and ultimately the company’s bottom line. Causes can range from lack of project management knowledge, simple neglect, or tight deadlines. Whatever the cause, there are preventive measures available. In elementary terms, the best defense is to PLAN first. But, even more so, your organization must complete proper project selection and initiation phases before progressing into the next phases of the project lifecycle. Introduction New ideas often bring excitement and momentum; however, rushing into project execution may actually increase the......

Do Most People Know What's in the Food They Eat?

...Do most people know what is in the food that they eat? Very few people are aware of the dangers of consuming everyday food. Things such as chicken nuggets or hamburgers could be slowly killing someone these days. With so many things being added to foods, the human race must keep in mind the fact that said things are also being added to their bodies. Exposure to these particular additives could have a large impact on humans and more importantly, their children. Perhaps we should first take a look at exactly what is in our food. Steroid hormones are chemicals that are produced naturally in the bodies of all animals, including humans. They are chemical messages that control important body functions such as growth, development and reproduction. Our bodies produce them naturally in very small amounts to maintain a delicate balance. There are six different kinds of steroid hormones that are currently approved by FDA for use in food production in the US: Estradiol, Progesterone, Testosterone, Zeranol, Trenbolone acetate, and Melengestrol acetate. Estradiol and progesterone are natural female sex hormones; testosterone is the natural male sex hormone; Zeranol, Trenbolone acetate and Melengesterol acetate are synthetic growth promoters (hormone-like chemicals that can make animals grow faster). Ingesting steroid hormones, either natural or synthetic can upset the natural balance in the body and lead to health problems. Studies have shown increased rates of cancer due to the......

After reporting the incident, I then went back to examine the area where the accident took place. While studying the area, I noticed the banana peel the woman allegedly slipped on was yellow. The peel was laying on a ribbed rubber mat. Also, I noticed the woman was wearing five-inch heels. From the looks of the area, the accident, look as if it was forced and the man was fabricating about what happened. While searching the area, I noticed the banana that the man claimed his wife slipped was yellow, in other words the peel was fresh. From my experience in working in food service, I know that by the banana peel still being yellow it means the peel was just placed on the mat. Response to: "People Prefer Food That Comes in Sexist Packaging"

...Do you ever wonder why food packaging is different colors and designs? Luke Zhu did; that’s why he conducted a study with his colleague on how packaging can influence your decision while purchasing certain food products. Christian Jarret, the writer of "People Prefer Food That Comes in Sexist Packaging", primarily talks about Luke Zhu's study on this subject. He uses a mixture of humanism and behaviorism to convey his points. Studies show that people would rather buy food that has a feminine or masculine design over any other. The name or label of the product also inspires an individuals thoughts. An example of this hypotheses would be the study that was conducted by Zhu that involved a number of people receiving and eating the same type of muffin, with the difference being the imagery. In this specific study, when the muffin was labeled with more masculinity that femininity, and gave off an unhealthy vibe, it was more appealing to the consumer. Researchers, however, found that there is a limit to how sexist packaging could be until considered unattractive to the buyer. A lot like his previous test, Zhu labeled the packaging for a muffin; however, this time, he added an extra masculine touch that was a bit over-the-top. In addition to this, he also added a masculine image. This type of packaging repelled the consumer because it was excessive. The human mind seeks balance in terms of motivation. If something is too much or not enough, it becomes unpleasant to......
