Motivational Stratigies

1) Choose three strategies from the proposed framework for motivational strategies. Explain them in your own words and relate them to your practice teaching experience. A. Creating the basic motivational conditions which involve setting the scene for the use of motivational strategies.

Motivational strategies cannot work in a vacuum. There are certain preconditions to be met before any attempts to generate motivation can be effective. Some of these conditions are the following: * Appropriate teacher behavior and good teacher-student relationship. * A pleasant and supportive classroom atmosphere. * A cohesive learner group being unique by appropriate group norms.

B. Maintaining and protecting motivation which corresponds to the actional phase.

Unless motivation is sustained and protected when action has commenced, the natural tendency to get tired or bored of the task and succumb to any attractive distractions will result in demotivation. Therefore, there should be a motivational repertoire including several motivation maintenance strategies: increasing the learners' self-confidence and creating learner self-aware of making choices (autonomy).

C. Encouraging positive self-evaluation, which corresponds to the postactional phase

By employing appropriate strategies, the latter can help learners to evaluate themselves in a positive way, encouraging them to take credit and responsibility for their advances. Strategies, such as: * Promoting attributions to effort rather than to ability * Providing motivational feedback * Increasing learner satisfaction and the question of rewards and grades.

...When it comes to the different motivational theories I would have to say that I agree least with the psychoanalytic theory and the humanistic theory. I dislike both of these theories pretty much on the same level just because these two theories make it look like we are simplistic as the two theories are very complex and not very motivational from my stand point. The psychoanalytic theory of motivation is very limiting to ones full potential. Can it be true, that we as humans are only mentally stimulated by two things? Sex and anger? I would like to think that I have more to offer myself and that I can contribute to others. And if I am only being motivated by these two means, I am just saying for myself, that I would not reach a desired level of potential because I am not a highly motivated person while I am upset nor am I a sexually aroused person, so motivation would suffer and so would my performance if I was to rely on either of these factors. When it comes to the humanistic theory of motivation, I would have yo say that when I begin to challenge myself or when I feel I am not adequate enough this does not help my self-esteem in turn does not even relatively motivate me to become a motivated individual.
