1 Marjane is centered in the panel, a solitary figure. The panel is divided in two, Marjane is costumed without the veil on the left side, but with the veil on the right. On the left, you see her hair, cut short, and there are tools and gears as a backdrop. On the right, her hair and body are hidden under the veil and the background is a traditional pattern of ivy and leaves. The panel reads, “I really didn't know what to think about the veil. Deep down I was very religious but as a family we were very modern and avant-garde” (panel 19, 684). | I find the look on Marjane's face striking. It is obvious she is torn and the image is created to bring this clearly before the reader. Marjane's mouth is slightly turned down, but she isn't crying. She could be seen as neutral except for the mouth, as though she is trying to hide her feelings almost, but cannot bring her mouth into a smile. Some might say that a blending of cultures is good, but this is one example of how difficult it can be for children. Additionally, the author could have used guns as a backdrop for the veil, but instead she chooses a beautiful ivy pattern. There is beauty in tradition, and there is difficulty. Ivy can be confining as well as beautiful. The tools are practical, but they are not beautiful. | 2 The panel where she is saying she feels guilty towards God (panel 43, 687) | I feel this is a big point in the story because this is where you really see Marjane start to communicate with God and she starts becoming a prophet like she said she would. | 3 The panel where Marjane and her friends dressed up as Fidel, Che Guevara, and Trotsky (panel 47, 688) | This is important and stood out to me because this is where her desire to demonstrate really showed. And it leads up to when she asks her parents to demonstrate in real life. | 4 Where God throws the rock at Karl Marx and starts laughing.…...

Maryjane

...Ty Heasley Professor Brown Sociology 1 December 2013 Legalization of marijuana The word "marijuana" has raised a concerned eyebrow in almost every American home today. Those that oppose legalization of the plant automatically believe its use is to smoke it, but those that do not choose to use marijuana are thought to be in favor of keeping it illegal.  However, based on its economic value and medical benefits, the cannabis has proven to outweigh its negatives with numerous other positives.  The war on drugs deals with every level of society. Every year, the U.S. government spends large amounts of money to control drug use and to enforce laws enacted to protect society from the dangers of certain drugs. Some argue that the fight against drugs is not needed and that society has already lost the war on drugs and the only way to cure the problem to end most of the fighting altogether is by decriminalizing the use of marijuana. "Pot is harmful, but people should not go to jail for smoking it" (Buckley). Buckley was a college professor at Columbian University and admitted to smoking marijuana on a national television show in 1973. At the time Buckley was quoted to say, "There were a half-million arrests due to pot use in 1973 respectively -this makes the realization that there has been a breakdown in communication between the public and the police" (Buckley). Over two decades later, Buckley's words still ring true today. Just eight years later an author speaking......

Old Enough to Serve, Not Old Enough to Drink

...correct. How would you deal with living in constant fear of your life? You would take a seat and have a taste of your most loved sort of cognac, whiskey, or wine to overlook a few memories. Americans who are of legal age considers that having a drink is a preferred way to end a frantic day. Unfortunately, these young military service members can't appreciate these extravagances of getting a charge out of a beverage or two. Welcoming a beverage of decision in controls can be of a tremendous advantage to adapt to anything emotionally, physically, and mentally troublesome. Various under-age service members whom may experience the ill effects of Post-traumatic anxiety issue (PTSD) frequently swing to different medications, for example, cocaine, maryjane, painkillers, and so forth. Nothing like other drugs, alcohol is and always will be legal. Many active service members have perceived and been through so much, one little drink can help them unwind momentarily and put their minds at ease from the situation. Bringing down the drinking age will be the response to recover these young service members and help get them on track with their day by day personal and professional lives. The 21 and older policy approach on liquor drives young service members to the point where they savor a hazardous domain. Banning 18-20 year old individuals from expending liquor won't just aim for young military soldiers to carry on, however, they will be more intrigued to attempt it. Permitting these......

...Marc Paragas Devry University Professor Maryjane Maxwell English062 “From Bullet to the Sky” Has anybody ever had a huge impact or influence in your life? I believe at some point there has to be at least one person that has done this. The person I run to whenever I’m in a difficult situation is my father In life, we encounter hardships, trials & tribulations. We often find ourselves asking someone else for advice to get a different perspective of the situation. My father has a big impact to what I have become today. To me, he’s the perfect role model. I’ve seen him go through hardships in life and I’ve also seen first hand how he dealt with those hardships. One example of a hardship my father wen through is when he moved to the United States with my mother leaving my siblings and I behind in the Philippines. He worked hard for two straight years so we can call be reunited together. Every time he’d call, I can sense that he’s tired and sad that we are away from him. I asked him how he endured this and his answer was being away from us gave him the strength to work even harder. We may not be as close as some people think we are at first, but what I can tell you is that he’s the person I run to whenever I’m in need. We are independent human beings, but we also depend on others. We may not notice it, but at some point someone has inspired us or there is always someone that we have looked up to growing up. My father is a great man, he would sacrifice a lot of......
