The Light

...Light Is this the light at the end of the tunnel? I wait like a lion waits for a prey to eat, when you look in my direction my feelings reach a peak. I sit in silence sadly staring waiting to see your face. SIGH, I wish you weren't such perfection. We fight and argue. I sit like a statue as you speak harsh words, you are a fire breathing dragon and I am a donkey. I act like I dont care and POOF! your gone, im now heartbroken singing my sad somber song. Is this the light at the end of the tunnel? You come right back, you make me laugh, you make me cry, I wish this was as easy as pie. Your like a mathematical equation, I want to figure you out, but your complication doesn't let me have concentration. A roller coaster is what our ''relationship'' is. Our love speaks a language that most people don't understand, it has its flaws, most beautiful things do, I wouldn't kick our relationship like a old pair of shoes for something new. Is this the light at the end of the tunnel? Waiting for you is similair to sleeping for 1,000 years expecting to not drool when you realize its time to wake up. My feelings are deeper then the ocean although, they cause various fights that make you want to leave and take a hike. When we agree, which is almost never I can't help but to hope that its not a joke. We agree to disagree. You are the barking dog and I am the aggrevating flea. I dislike when your around but, I can't help to miss you when I'm...

...Tools To Use For Painting With Light Photography (OBEP.com) Flashlights and LED’s Flashlights and Led’s are great tools when painting with light photography. The best type of flashlight to use with light painting trick photography is Maglite. Flashlights and LED bulbs both has their advantages and disadvantages. Maglite flashlights have a warm natural yellow color because they use incandescent bulbs. LED’s on the other hand usually has a colder tone color. If one has trouble working with either of these tools, change the white balance for one’s camera to build up the temperature difference. Maglights and LED’s are the primary and novice light painting tool. Fiber Optic Adapter If one comes to a situation where one must use a small or hand sized object, one will see that using a flashlight or LED will not work appropriately. In cases such as this, one will need a fiber optic adapter for their flashlight. The adapter is a cap that fits snuggly over the bulb casing of the flashlight, with a fiber optic cable protruding out of the end. This light painting tool comes in two sizes. A seven inch version and a twenty inch version. Using the Maglite adapter combination will give one the capability to light paint small and hand sized objects with ease and utmost accuracy. Star Light

...“Star Light, Star Bright, Where are you now?” As I was reading the article, I was surprised to know that there was such thing as “light pollution”. It was rare for me to hear this kind of pollution. The cause of this kind of pollution is too much light directed toward the sky. I even wonder at times when I look up unto the skies and see no stars at all. I didn’t realize that this was because of light pollution. It was because of this article that I’ve learned a lot about light pollution. The presence of light pollution makes it impossible for us to see the stars, because there are way too many artificial lights that brighten up the night. Few of the causes of light pollution are: bright lights from homes and buildings, light from vehicles, street light that have a shape of a cylinder, and billboards lit form the bottom. Starless nights may not be a big problem for us, ordinary people, but for astronomers who study the heavenly bodies, this is already a huge problem. Even with the use of telescopes, the glare of the light may still affect their observations which results into inaccurate results. Astronomers are not the only ones affected by this pollution. Even the nocturnal animals are affected too. Light pollution could ruin their natural habitat and overall behavior. There are ways to reduce the effect of light pollution, and this is through the use of: Light with timers, Motion-sensor lighting, and......

Street Lights

...Replacement of Non-working Street Lights The repair or replacement of non-working street lights in several areas of the city has caused hazardous driving conditions due to low visibility. The city has decided to make the repair and replacement of these lights a priority. Identifying the problem: Although the city has already stated that nonworking street lights has the culprit to the problem the real problem is low visibility. At what level of light output is conditions considered acceptable; for instance is a 1000 watt bulb considered adequate for 500 feet of road? Is this acceptable for all roads? Is a residential area roads need different lighting requirements as a highway or what about historic areas that want to maintain a time period look and feel through the area? For this exercise we say that historic areas will not accrue changes under this program, residential areas need a 500 wattage bulb every 1000 feet, and highways need a 1000 watt bulb every 500 feet. Understanding the problem Low visibility: Are current street lights working? If so, are the lights adequate to meet acceptable levels? If not, how far are the lights poles positioned apart? And what wattage of bulbs is being used? Do these meet the minimum standards set above? Identifying Alternate solutions: If lighting is not meeting acceptable levels should more lights be added or should existing lights be replaced due to the inability of the current lights to provide adequate amount of light. Selecting......

Let There Be Light

...Let There Be Light What kind of world would it be without light? A horrible one. The light bulb is a world-changing invention because of this. If it wasn't invented, many world would be dark. The light bulb has given us more than just light though. If taken away, none of or lives would be the same. The light bulb was invented on October 22, 1879 by a man known as Thomas Alva Edison. This brilliant man has made many more inventions, his important of which is possible the light bulb. Though he technically didn't invent the light bulb, due to his work the where not tossed away as a failed experiment. He later made a company which distributed electricity to the cities and made other items. He then had competition for the distribution of electricity. He later combined his company with another one to for General Electric. Without the invention of the light bulb, many other fantastic items could not exist. Such items include the TV, computer, and the movies. These items would make our lives not as enjoyable and would destroy the entertainment industry. These items brighten our day up and allows several companies to thrive. There would be no headlights for your car, there would be no Christmas decorations or any form of flashlight. The world would be dark. The light bulb works by taking just enough electric current to make a piece of metal glow brightly enough to give out visible light yet not get so hot that it melts and breaks. The piece of metal is called a......

...March 2011 Lighting: The Way it Affects a Movie Set Lights! Lights! And More Lights! While on a movie set for any show, cinematographers are artists that paint motion pictures with light (Murphy 1). They must know that lighting is their main concern while in production. No matter if there is too much or too little lighting, lighting must always be controlled (Morales). In order to solve the problem of faulty lighting, cinematographers should know when lights should be used, where it should be placed, and who it should be focused on; therefore, they must communicate with the director and the lighting engineer at all times because the lighting sets the mood for the image (Morales). There are many techniques that a cinematographer works with and people wonder how. An example is that most people wonder how cinematographers control their lighting while indoors when the subject is placed by a window. If subject is in front of a window and there is too much sunlight, take some aluminum foil wrapped around a piece of cardboard and turn it towards the subject so the light will reflect on the person face which will act as a key or filled light. If there is another light around, put it a little closer to subject and the reflected light will act as the backlight to make it seem as three-point lighting (“Lighting Tricks and Solutions”). The need for this type of lighting is to make the subject’s face is clear and visible. If the light from the window is shinning on the subject too......

...affected by variables. There are three kinds of variables in an experiment: independent, dependent, and controlled. The independent variable is the variable you purposely manipulate. The dependent variable is the variable that is being observed, which changes in response to the independent variable. Variables that are not changed are called controlled variables. When conducting an experiment, it must be a controlled experiment. That is, you must compare an "experimental or treatment group" with a "control group." The two groups are exactly the same except for the one variable being tested. For example, in your experiment on dissolved oxygen and trout, you may select to use two aquariums and 5 juvenile rainbow trout. The aquarium, food, light source, location of the aquarium, ambient temperature, water temperature, trout stock, trout gender, and age of trout all have to be exactly the same. However, the water in one aquarium has a dissolved oxygen level of 3 mg/l and the other has a "normal" level. The aquarium with "normal" dissolved oxygen is called the control and the aquarium with the lowered dissolved oxygen is called the treatment. The control group acts as a reference point to compare with the treatment group. If the test is properly designed and constructed, any difference between the two groups can only be due to the one experimental factor tested. The challenge is to control for variables that may affect (confound) your results. A confounding variable is an......

Light Peak

...------------------------------------------------- Light Peak Light Peak is a proprietary optical cable interface designed by Intel to connect devices in a peripheral bus. The technology has a high bandwidth at 10 Gbit/s, with the potential to scale to 100 Gbit/s by 2020. Currently in development, Light Peak is being developed as a single universal replacement for current buses such as SCSI, SATA, USB, FireWire, PCI Express and HDMI, in an attempt to reduce the proliferation of ports on contemporary computers. Bus systems such as USB were developed for the same purpose, and successfully replaced a number of older technologies. However, increasing bandwidth demands have led to higher performance standards like eSATA and DisplayPort that cannot connect to USB and similar peripherals. Light Peak provides a high enough bandwidth to drive these over a single type of interface, and often on a single daisy chained cable. As a single universal replacement for current buses such as SCSI, SATA, USB, FireWire, PCI Express and HDMI, Light Peak aims to remove some of the problems in the computer industry that are now apparent such as the limited transfer speeds and multiple connectors, many of which must be supported and then are often fated to go completely unused. A major problem in single-cable connection is the maximum length of electrical cables – DC power and electrical signals diminish rapidly over more than 5 meter distances. In theory, a device under 5m away could be......

Extraction of Light

...Extraction of light trapped in special structured luminescent thin films Group discussion 3rd May 2014 Group members: Barbara Brudieu, Lucie Devys, Prof. Thierry Gacoin, and Gu Rong I. INTRODUCTION After almost two months’ internship, with a great help of Barbara and Lucie, I eventually manage to synthesize the DBR and all the solutions needed. Although some techniques still remain to be ameliorated and their theoretical meanings are also left to figure out, to have a small brainstorming at this moment is quite timely I suppose. It just happens to be the mid-point of combining Barbara’s DBR mirror with Lucie’s photonic crystal coupling system. By now, we’ve got three different DBRs (375nm, 620nm, 850nm and the gradient will be fabricated after this meeting) and each mirror has two types: 6 & 8 layers. Several optical measurements (Carry 50) and curves of calibration (TiO2-Eu(TTA)3 layer thickness) will be showed as flowing which are open for discussion. Hope this meeting will assess the work finished so far and give a clear direction for the further steps. II. DBRs The optical measurement of these mirrors is operated on Carry 50 and the corresponding simulation is carried out on Matlab (Reticolo). a. b. c. Figures a, b, c are DBRs of wavelengths 375nm, 620nm and 850nm. Curves left are optical measurement of transmission by Carry 50, curves right are the simulation associated. Led Lights

...LED LIGHTS A Museum Exhibits Case Study By Deric Payne December 3, 2014 In April 2014, the Durango County Museum of History installed a small exhibit titled Our heritage: Pictures from the past. The collection consists of five daguerreotypes and several silver albumen prints. A study was made to measure the benefits and costs of using LED lights instead of traditional halogen lamps. RISKS OF LIGHTING HISTORIC PHOTOGRAPHS All lighting harms photographs. (Lavedrine 2003) It is the task of the conservator to minimize this harm so that the photographs can be viewed for a significant span of time, typically 50 to 100 years. For these reasons, historical photographs are displayed only periodically in rooms with significantly reduced lighting. These practices minimize the visitor experience and according to Hunt, reducing light levels diminishes color saturation and contrast. (Hunt 1952, 192) In all lighting systems, ultraviolet light (UV) must be eliminated as that spectrum harms photographs the most. Halogen lights must have UV filters installed which adds to their cost and effectiveness. LED lamps do not emit UV light and do not need extra filters. According to a study by the Getty Conservation Institute, fading from LED lamps does not result in any more damage than conventional halogen lamps with ultraviolet filtering. They found that it is likely using LED lamps results in less fading of photographic materials. (Druzil and Miller 2011) METHODOLOGY In the new exhibit,...

Light Photography

...Light The main factors effecting a photo when using a camera are ISO, the aperture and the shutter speed. ISO is the level of sensitivity to available light. The numbers usually are low if the sensitivity is low compared to available light and high if there is more sensitivity. However the higher the sensitivity, the higher he grain. This can be affective if this is the style you want, however you have to remember the aperture effects the image. Shutter Speed is the length of time a camera shutter is open to expose light into the camera. The measurements usually range from fractions of a seconds to actual seconds. Slow shutter speeds allow more light into the camera and are used for low-light and night photography, while fast shutter speeds help to freeze motion so can be used to create action shots. The aperture is the hole within in the lens hat allows he light to get into the camera. The larger the hole, the more light passes to the camera and vice versa. Aperture also controls the depth of field, which is the section you image that is in focus. If the aperture is very small, the depth of field is large, while if the aperture is large, the depth of field is small. As you take an image and press the shutter button, the subject enters your camera lens in a form of light. If your subject is well-lit, there is plenty of light that travels into the lens, whereas if you are taking a picture in a dim environment, there is not much light that travels into the lens.......
