Eccentrix Talent Show Review Singing has always been a passion of mine. Since the fourth grade I was a prestigious student in concert choir, taking part in many events throughout grade school. Last Thursday, I was honored to partake in the University of West Georgia’s first official talent show hosted by the Eccentrix organization. Eccentrix is a student-based organization that host’s events such as open mic and free verse nights dedicated to the students at West Georgia. The mission is to promote an environment that is open to any race, religion, or culture where the students are able to perform a variety of talents varying from singing, dancing, playing an instrument, or even a poem of choice. When I heard about the talent show, I didn’t hesitate to say yes and audition. The night of the show I was anxious and couldn’t have been more ready to perform. The opening of the show was a wonderful experience as I sat and watched my peers perform their talents. I watched in amazement and couldn’t wait to go on stage myself. I was the second to last act, and I performed an official piece written by me. The song is called “Change your ways,” which is dedicated to an ex-boyfriend of mine. It was the first time I had ever performed apiece written by me so it was a new experience. When it was my time, I sat on stage, picked up the mic, and gave the best performance of my life. It felt so good to sing something that was mine, and introduced new melodies and rhymes to my peers. When the song was over it was such a great feeling to hear the shouts and applause, which let me know they loved my song. After the song ended, my brother Rj and I performed “Candles in the Sun,” by Miguel. It’s a great political piece that shines light on the government’s mistakes on society and tries to…...

...finally arrives she instantly begins taking snap shots of her former home. She pushes to preserve the heritage she left behind by taking these captured shots of a heritage fading away and by literally taking it back with her which is the case with the dasher and quilts. Dee eagerly attempts to take back with her things of past lineage stating “This churn is what I need” and wanting “the dasher too” (Walker 165). She does the same with the quilts “saying sweet as a bird 'Can I have these old quilts?'” in her hopeful delight of trying to preserve these relics that Mama Johnson and Maggie use for everyday use (Walker 165). However, Mama Johnson still reveres these things as something that should be put to use instead of put up for display by not allowing Dee to get the quilts but instead giving them to Maggie who would inevitably wear them down into uselessness eventually. This consistent struggle between preserving heritage and living it is made all the more evident through Mama Johnson's eyes by her lack of understanding in why Dee would want something she would never use and that “'her thin, scarred, pathetic daughter, who knows how to quilt and serves as her family's oral historian, deserves the quilts more than her shapely, favored, educated daughter Dee'” (Gruesser 185). This struggle is the prevalent factor throughout Walker's short story. Dee is discouraged by her mothers lack of consideration for her own heritage and promptly leaves when she is refused the quilts so......

...any offers they may have that will attract even more customers. E-Commerce websites have also made it possible for pre-order events to take place online where customers are able to pre-order goods and services before they are officially launched. Many businesses that use social media will also create offers that are based on trending news stories, aka reactive marketing. This will then help businesses to market themselves as well as promoting the news story. * Bricks and clicks The term ‘bricks and clicks’ refers to retailers that have both an e-Commerce website as well as a physical store on the high street where their customers can collect or return items that they have purchased. This then gives the customer the best of both as they know that if they need to return items, they can then do so very quickly and speak directly with a staff member to resolve any issues. Many people still prefer to purchase expensive items from a local store as it can be expensive, time consuming and a lot of hassle to ship the item back to the manufacturer. Benefits for the customers Online shopping offers its customers several advantages over the traditional high street shopping, which include: * The ability to shop 24/7 * The convenience of being able to shop from home and on a mobile device anywhere * Being able to search, find and buy products considerably faster than in a traditional store * The ease of comparing prices across multiple sites within the global market *......

...Dear Mr. President, As you know, civic and political participation is important. It allows any citizen to be active in the government. Some people in the world are more active than others. One of those people happens to have been Dorothea Dix. I am writing you to see if there is any way we could acknowledge what Dix did for the people of our country. Dorothea Dix was born in Hampden Maine in 1802. Her journey began when she witnessed the horrible conditions of a women’s prison in Massachusetts. She saw how the prisoners, especially the mentally ill, were being treated, and knew she had to make a change. She spent the next 40 years of her life trying to improve conditions. Dix began traveling throughout the state to research the conditions of other prisons. She gathered information that she then presented to the Massachusetts legislature. By doing this, she managed to get more money for the expansion of the State Mental Hospital. Although this itself was a major accomplishment, she wasn’t satisfied. She then traveled all over the country doing more research such as the conditions of the prisons, and the treatment of the patients. She started campaigning to create humane asylums and succeeded in quite a few states. Next, Dix decided to go to congress. She wanted them to grant her more than 12 million acres of land to use for the benefit of the mentally ill. Both houses of congress approved the bill, but it was vetoes by President Franklin Pierce in 1854. Dix was less than...

... 3/10/12 The Reflexive Speech Today I stand here to talk to you about Martin Luther King's I Have A Dream Speech. Dr. King's was very surreal, was something that had to be said in the sake of all the black people suffering from racial segregation. The white  people should stop treating the black people as if they were something different as if they weren't human because treating black people equally will help us americans become greater people, people that God can admire. I say this, because I myself James Swerg and all the other Freedom Riders have been through many tough times where we will be attacked by men armed with bricks, clubs and knives. Also one time in Anniston Alabama, when we where going on one of the freedom rides we will be divided in two buses, the white people attacked us leading to many injuries and  one of the buses was burned and all the white people held the doors shut so we couldn't get out of the bus and get burned to death, why luckily that didn't happen. That's why I'm here today, to further explain to you why this must stop, because as Dr. King said "now is the time to lift our nation from the quicksands of racial injustice to the solid rock of brotherhood". That's what we are suppose to be a brotherhood because I ask this to myself,  do all this people really enjoy killing so many innocent people just because of their color? cause I don't think that's what God  will do in this situation, he will just see......

...in other wards people come to the United States with the hope of getting a better life and achieving the ultimate “American Dream”. Indeed the United States being a developed country and having one of the best economy has favourable living conditions in comparison to other parts of the world. This was not the basic reason back in the 17thand 18th century where America was more so a dump place for the poor or people trying to escape harsh governments. Immigration into America is still going on to this very day and it has become an issue amongst many who claim that it is impacting the country in a negative way. Is immigration really having a negative impact in the United States? Perhaps Immigration does have its pros and cons. All together I do agree that there are a lot of effects of a large movement of people into the United States. One of them largely being the variety of races that has made America a uniquely diversified nation that it is today. One of the races being Iranian American that’s purely an immigration group considering that they all came from the Iranian Republic. Digging a little into history acknowledges the fact that America was originally occupied my Native Americans. Therefore majority of the population in America is by fact as a result of immigration. Due to this the United States has endeavoured to put a lot of strict laws and policies governing immigration. This is also coupled with the fact that there a lot of undocumented citizens walking and......

...sticking with the brand, taste. Coca-Cola has a very distinct taste compared to their competition, which all taste the same from one cola to another in my opinion anyway. Therefore, a less loyal customer would simply move on and buy an alternative product that is similar to this one. By taking this action it can be said that Coca-Cola demonstrated a “door on the face” technique. They scared their customers with a threat of such a drastic change.  The Coca-Cola Company did though rebranded the original product, calling the original “Coca – Cola Classic”, which resulted in a significant increase in sales.   2) There have always been numerous choices on the shelves of supermarkets, delis and restaurants offering different types of colas. However, I believe there are two brands that which started it all Coca-Cola and Pepsi. It is the two of these brands that through-out the years have created the most brand loyalty. The main reason for this divide between the two companies is the taste of the cola. Sure, there are a variety of colas on the market but if you asked most people they clearly have their favorite and vary rarely will drink the other unless there is no other alternative. Customers will buy Coca-Cola whether it is “on sale” or not. Creating different products to offer the consumer under the same brand allows a company to extend their line but give their customers different tastes to choose from. Coca-Cola launched Coke Zero which has a different taste from their......

...the Salk vaccine; the other half received a placebo, in this case an injection of salt dissolved in water. Neither the children nor the doctors performing the diagnoses knew which children belonged to which group, but an evaluation center did. The center found that the incidence of polio was far less among the children in- occulated with the Salk vaccine. From that information, the re- searchers concluded that the vaccine would be effective in pre- venting polio for all U.S. school children; consequently, it was made available for general use. Answer: Experimental, because of the placebo. One group gets the vaccine and the other group gets the placebo. The variable which is changed in one group makes it an experiment. This study tested the hypothesis that high stress levels can lead to the risk of health problems. Like other studies, I found that stress are little signals in your mind which tends to quicken all around your body, it starts to push adrenaline in your body. If that adrenaline stays for a long period of time this can affect people's mind and body which increases their health risks.
