...26th May 2014 Personal reflection on Equality and Diversity by Julia Hill I presently work as a NAPPI Trainer/Auditor (non-abusive psychological and physical interventions) for Elmcare. Elm care is a company who own homes where people with Learning disabilities and challenging behaviours live and they are supported as required and encouraged to live a normal as life as possible. I am responsible for delivering the training to all the staff that have any contact with the service users in any way to promote a safe working environment. Firstly I will tell you what NAPPI (non-abusive psychological and physical interventions) is about. It was established in 1995 and is a leading provider of training and consultancy in the principles of positive behaviour support. In addition to their subject specialism, the educational value of their services is central to their success. Services include direct training at three levels of intervention; onsite training, open workshop delivery and the development of trainers. I am currently trained to teach level 1 and level 2 and I will be completing the level 3 in June this year. The most important contribution is identified in their successes. A reduction in staff and service user injury, a reduction in the use of restrictive practices, and overall reduction in behaviour that challenges and increased quality of life for all. ...Establishing Equality and Diversity in a Company Promotion Policy Introduction In this age of globalization and industrialization, the rate of women empowerment is enhancing with rapid leaps and bounds. This concept must be recognized in order to reduce the curse of gender inequality and illiteracy. Racism is still a problem in American corporations; therefore, it prevents some minority applicants from advancing in their companies. Such a situation of gender inequality and diversity is described in this essay. This essay is divided into five parts mainly highlighting the reasons of inequality in the organization that Maria worked for. It identifies the prime reasons for structural discrimination, individual discriminations, and prejudicial attitude. It highlights the reasons Maria is unfairly treated by her supervisor and also the ways to improve her communication. ...Unit 2 Equality and Diversity Concepts in Equality and Diversity Equality – Equality is making sure that people have equal rights and opportunities. It is part of the law that every organisation has to have an equal opportunities policy, to make sure that employees have the same choices and opportunities and that no one is treated differently. For example in a nursing home, according to the equal opportunities policy, all individuals should receive the same high-quality care service, however people may be treat differently due to different cultural needs and preferences. For instance, a male care worker may not be allowed to work with a female Muslim due to her preferences and religion; however the Muslim woman will still receive the same amount of care. Equity – Equity is the definition for being fair, having justice and being impartial. It means that everyone is permitted to equal access to any service which they may require and should still get the same amount of high-quality care regardless of where they live of how they live their lives. For example, in a hospital the patients shouldn’t be treated exactly the same, however you should still be fair and offer them opportunities and choices. For instance if there was a young girl in one bed and an old man in another bed, the young girl will be treated differently than the old man due to their needs and preferences, however they will both still be treated fairly just not the same and will still receive the same amount......
