My First Thoughts Of College

Life changing, life altering, the time to figure out who you trully are. These are all things I heard before even attending my first day. These are things that ive been told time and time again about this heaven we know as "College". Where parties rule and your encouraged to pick your own spesfic classes, where and when you have them, everything. All to fit around your personal schedule so that you can live your life the way you want. Its the freedom of becoming an adult thats opened my mind to the whole college experience and so far its been pheomenoal. At first, i was one of the skeptics with a multitude of questions and none of them being answered. Its a whole new life and everybody expects you to understand things right from the get go. But deep down just getting here has been one of the biggest headaches ive ever had to put up with. My housing was consistantly changing, my grades had trouble transfering over and nobody ever picks up a damn phone now adays. Nobody talks on the phone anymore its all stupid machines chanting you to press 1 for the operator which was usually followed by a 20-30 minute wait. So as you can tell things got realy stressful before i could even begin. But now that im here living the life theres nothing to complain about. Everybody is super chill and down for whatever, my kind of people. College is full of surprises and with every step you decide to either take the risks or head home the safe way. Its the life i think weve all been waiting for. When you can come home at what ever time you want and not have to hear bitching in the morning, or when Taco bell cravings hit you hard at midnight you can go grab it. Its the freedom to do what we want when we want, and i cant get…...

This also means by law that ninety-five percent of Americans should own car insurance, but unfortunately not everyone does. For eighty-nine years State Farm has used the motto, "Be fair and do the right thing for the customers." Since the 1940s State Farm has been the nation's top auto insurer. It is important for State Farm to showcase, through television commercials, what their company can do for the customers. In 2010, State Farm created their new powerful imaginative "Magic Jingle Parking Lot" commercial to maintain their audience while keeping up with their o competitors. The commercial I decided to use was the one where three women are walking to the parking lot as they see a dent on one of the girl’s car. The girl that is a costumer made it seem simple and just said “Like a good neighbor state farm is there” and her agent appears immediately. After the other two girls saw this; they wanted to try the same thing. But they requested different type of agents. One of them said “with a hot guy” and a cute appeared. While the other girl exclaimed “Who is also sensitive” and her agent appeared. At the end of this commercial we see that each of the girls ended up with an agent that most fit them. State Farm uses techniques to draw in customers. Compared to other car insurances, State Farm makes themselves seem very......

...ESSAY-WRITING THE ESSENTIAL GUIDE In a subject like Communications Studies, much of your university work will be assessed by essay – whether that’s an essay you prepare in your own time over a period of days or weeks, or one you concoct in an examination hall in the space of an hour. It therefore follows that if you learn how to prepare, organise and present essays, you will do much better in your degree overall. So this document might also be called: Institute of Communications Studies - Study Skills HOW TO GET BETTER MARKS WITHOUT (NECESSARILY) DOING MORE WORK We’ll assume that you’ve read widely about the particular subject of your essay, and have a good understanding of the broader area within which that topic is located. Broad and deep research is the essential basis of an essay. You will have lots of notes on the subject – see the ICS Study Skills Guide to Note-Making for tips on how to do this. So now it’s time to write the essay. You sit down in front of the keyboard and start typing: you put the title, you try to group some similar bits of information or argument together, and then you put a conclusion on the end saying that there are many interesting points of view on this subject, right? No, of course you don’t. You’ve got to start off with an essay plan. By designing this you’ll come up with the structure. A well thought-out structure is at the heart of every good essay. What is a good structure? It isn’t enough to make sure that you have an introduction......

I would have to wait until the teacher contact me. In my conclusion, I would prefer distance learning over online learning. But, for right now, I would have to take online classes due to my own schedule. I like that online classes give me the flexibility to do my homework, and class assignment anywhere. But, I hate the disadvantages, that I when I need help, I have to wait for an instructor. I love distant learning, because I am actually in a classroom setting, hands on also, the instructor is if I get stuck on an essay or subject. But, disadvantage in distant learning is that it is not flexible for my schedule. That concludes my essay for, the difference between online learning, and distance learning....

...Running head: THINKING ABOUT YOUR WRITING THINKING ABOUT YOUR WRITING Imron Quamina ENG 101 English Composition Excelsior College May 11, 2014 THINKING ABOUT YOUR WRITING Writing is something that we all human beings have to do whether we like it or not. Personally I am very fond of writing. In the childhood I used to write famous inspirational quotes in my diary with meaning. Then after that, life became too busy writing was done only when necessary such as writing application for leaves and doing assignments for my various online courses. Personally, I feel that the online courses have helped me a lot but there are still many areas that I can improve on. While writing an essay, my process is simple. I think about the topic I need to write and then bullet down the main points that I need to write and organize them and frame the essay. The most stressful thing I experience while writing with regards to writing about a particular topic. I have the habit of making it short and simple and sometimes I am able to add words to my essay. Though according to me my essay has all the points, but the lack of words does affect the meaning of the essay. Adding words to the essay is the most stressful part for me. The most rewarding was the essay that I helped me fetch praises from my teacher. I was never a good writer and when you receive praises for things you are not good at, it feels so good. The greatest struggle as a writer for me is to find to words that help you......

...Bethany Martinez ENG 101 M. Brown 30 April 2013 Mandatory Financial Counseling Should be Provided to All College Students A growing number of college students today are facing unnecessary hardships upon graduation from college because they lack preparation, and the necessary skills needed to manage their financial circumstances. Lack of knowledge combined with distracting, busy study schedules have led many college students to make poor decisions, leading to costly consequences upon graduation. According to the Project on Student Debt at The Institute for College Access & Success (TICAS) in the college graduate class of 2011, two-thirds had an average of $26,600 in student loan debt upon graduation; at the same time the unemployment rate among new graduates was at 8.8 percent ("Average Student Debt Climbs to $26,600 for Class of 2011"). As a result, thousands of new graduates are forced to face huge amounts of debt on student loans that they cannot pay, immediately after graduating. There has been talk on Capitol Hill about federal loans to help graduates with their debt. Government involvement to fix the problem seems very retroactive considering that universities could and should have taken a more proactive approach. Universities must better prepare their students for the foreseeable financial hardships they could face upon graduation by providing mandatory financial planning counseling to all students. Without proper counseling and direction, it is......

...ESSAY 1 Mike Gaston ENG 101 ENG 101 – C02 – Spring 2015 LUO THESIS: Chores are a beneficial and important factor in the upbringing of children for many reasons. Outline: INTRODUCTION: In the military I have met many people from many walks of life. What I have gathered and witnessed from my encounters were that basic household skills were lacking in some and not others. I found that many of the people I met who were not raised to do chores lacked basic household skills; whereas the people raised to do chores did not. The ones who lacked these household skills were at a disadvantage when it came time to living on their own; having to be taught how to do laundry, cook, and clean at the age of 21 was not only difficult for some, but embarrassing as well. I, as well as my brothers, were raised with the notion that chores were essential. Performing chores as children aided us into our adulthood. Chores helped us become better team players, it fostered a sense of discipline and personal responsibility and an understanding of risk/reward, and it also taught us basic life skills to living and surviving on our own. I still believe that chores are a beneficial and important factor in the upbringing of children in our society today. 1. CHORES AID IN BEING A BETTER TEAM PLAYER a. Chores teach children (siblings) to work as a team to speed up the cleaning process. b. They teach single kids to help the burden of cleaning for the......

Clarification Essay Eng 090

...Classification Essay: Cardiovascular Exercise A. Olived October 14, 2010 Eng 090 Mark Price In the past several years, it has become very clear to most people that exercise is beneficial and possibly even critical in maintaining optimal health. Many studies have shown that one particular form of exercise is the most effective in preventing premature disease and death and that is called cardiovascular exercise. Cardiovascular exercise or simply cardio, is defined in simple terms as any activity that raises your heart rate to a near maximum rate for an extended period of time. The most popular modes of cardiovascular exercise are running, using the elliptical machine, and swimming. Running or jogging has proven to be an excellent form of cardio. It is the most efficient way to burn calories, leading to weight loss. More importantly, it also uses several different muscles so the body is exerting a lot of effort which raises the heart rate. Although running provides great benefits to the body, there are also downfalls to this mode of cardio. One major disadvantage of running is that there is a constant striking motion as your feet hit the pavement or the treadmill belt so that results in quite a bit of wear and tear on the joints. Many complaints of arthritic pain or joint deterioration can be due to excessive running. Even with that disadvantage, running still sits at the top of the list as one of the most popular forms of cardiovascular exercise. Another type of......

Exemplification Essay (Eng 101)

...Exemplification Essay How many times have you heard the saying “It’s not the clothes that makes the person, it’s the person that makes the person?” I know it’s a mouth full. And we’d all like to believe that, right? But unfortunately in today’s society that’s not the case. How you dress is a representation of you. Like a first impression and we all know you only get one. But exactly why does it matter? Why would anyone care about how I dress? Well that’s what where here to find out. In today’s world how you dress is a reflection of you. It defines how people will react or treat you. Possibly even stereotype & judge you. Luckily it all depends on the type of social situation you are in. If you dress appropriately for the right occasion you’ll have nothing to worry about. Let’s use me for an example. I went job hunting for the first time when I was 16. I didn’t know any better. I went to different stores in the mall wearing a pair of ripped up jeans with my American Eagle striped polo shirt and my most favorite pair of black and white low top Chuck Taylors. I felt like I could conquer the world, or at least the mall. I went to the mall around 2pm and left around 5pm with no job applications. I didn’t understand it, every store I went into had a “Now Hiring” sign, but I kept getting turned down. Soon my “conquer the world” attitude disappeared as I took the bus back home. When I got home my grandma asked me how the job search went. When I told her what happened she sat......
