The article “Another Malaysian Education Dilemma: Can We Trust Our Exam?” was published at The Edge Malaysia on Jan 07, 2014. It was written by the author, Nicholas Chan. He is a graduate from Universiti Sains Malaysia and he is a forensic scientist by education. Currently, Nicholas Chan is a socio-political research analyst at Penang Institute. He believes that there is truth in everything and it all depends on whether a person willing to see it or not.

The author started the article by informing the reader about the current education status of the Malaysian students.

The main points which were discussed in this article were about the examination and educational level in Malaysia. The author is disappointed with the education level in Malaysia. The author compared the education level with other countries too. Besides, the author mentioned about the removal of Penilaian Menengah Rendah (PMR) which was announced recently, and replaced with school based assessment (PBS). The removal of PMR was caused by the difficulty in making sense of having students with excellent results, but still underperforming to international standards. The author made assumptions on the education level that the standard of Malaysia education is low. Lastly, the author gave suggestions on ways to overcome the inequality problem in education.

The author concluded the article with hope.

As the title suggests, Adbusters is dedicated to exposing and undermining mainstream capitalist culture. But in 1992 Neil Postman, an author of over 200 magazines and newspaper articles, wrote the book Technopoly: The Surrender of Culture to Technology to explain the many ways technology was taking over. In his book Technopoly, Postman makes an effort to paint a picture of “when, how, and why technology became a particularly dangerous enemy” (Postman xii). ...Final Paper Today I will discuss my final peer critique of Aaron, as written and evaluated by me,. As I set and prepared for Aaron’s speech, I notice his dress and demeanor. He appeared well to do with his jacket and slacks. As I further examined him I couldn’t help but notice that he was wearing a pair of work boots. I took this as to be the way Aaron is and nothing else. For if you know Aaron, you know he has a casual attitude and always ready with a smile. Before the class started that day we talked about our speeches and if we could convince ourselves of the topics we had decided on. He seemed a little nervous about his topic because he did not fully agree or disagree with the appearance of tattoos. We talked about both pros and cons of this idea but could not agree on one side. It will look at the use of language, point of view, use of imagery, characterisation and setting to name but a few. I will provide my opinions on the piece of writing and explain my reasoning behind this. Cresswell’s use of language in The Visitor strongly suggests to me that McGill is isolated and lonely. The use of the word “frosted” when describing the outside of McGill’s home could be seen as a metaphor for his personality. The writer also states that the “frosted grass” could be “anticipating the approach of an intruder”. The word intruder is a strong choice of word, as opposed to guest or visitor, suggesting that the idea of a visitor is baffling. Another example is shown on line four where the text states McGill’s home is “the only sign of civilization for miles around” and “it occurred to him someone might be outside”. This immediately confirms to the reader that McGill has been alone for quite some time and would not usually expect any visitors. I also feel that the writer’s use of the words “ice cold lips” and “cold as marble” when describing the young girl connects her to McGill as this suggests that she may be lonely too.
