Subject: Accounting for New Prepaid Phone Service Plan
Date: August 31, 2008
Velocity Cellular Services (Velocity or the Company) sells wireless services and products based on the Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) standard. Under the GSM standard, each subscriber is required to have an activation card to access the network; the activation card is therefore necessary for subscribers to use their cellular phones. The activation card identifies the subscriber, provides the subscriber with a unique phone number, and only works on a specific carrier’s network (i.e., the activation card is not interchangeable with other carrier networks).
The Company is planning to promote and market a prepaid phone service plan called “Power Starterpack” as part of its line of service plans to existing wireless subscribers (i.e., individuals who already own a cellular phone).
The Company adopted ASU 2009-13, “Revenue Arrangements With Multiple Deliverables” in the current fiscal year.
Power Starterpack — Prepaid Phone Service Plan
The Power Starterpack will provide each subscriber with a new activation card and a prepaid voucher for a total nonrefundable fee of $200. By replacing the old activation card with the updated 2008 activation card, the following additional functionalities are provided: 1 Bluetooth®-enabled technology that allows current subscribers to have wireless control of and…...

Logistics Lets the Game Begin

...Jerome L. Anderson Logistics Lets the Game Begin Now this article caught my interest because I love me some football and I never really picture football and logistics as a couple until I read and really thought about how both go hand and hand. I forgot that everything you do in life that you want done right takes preparation and logistics is a major for of preparation. Before the high-profile athletes and rebid fans arrive at a major professional sports event, superstar logisticians and planners perform their own feats of greatness to ensure the big game goes off without a hitch. So after reading this comment, the thought of the NBA, NHL, MLB, all of the NCAA’s sports as well as any other sport that is played all have people, mainly logisticians there in the background making sure that all of the big games and events goes off without a glitch. I know I would love to work for some major NFL franchise doing logistics. That would be the highlight of my life. Making it to the final contest that determines a professional sports championship takes practice, hard work, and determination – whether you’re and athlete competing or part of the team charged with planning the momentous event. The whole world will be watching, and the slightest oversight could have game – changing repercussions. Organizers of the Super Bowl in Arlington, Texas, faced challenges including frozen roads, ice falling from the stadium roof; events spread 30mmiles apart, and pre-sold temporary...

...guesstimates, for which candidates are asked to come up with a figure, usually the size of a market or the number of objects in an area. Although guesstimates are more commonly given in interviews for consulting positions, they do pop up in finance interviews as well. Practicing guesstimates is a good way to begin preparing for stress questions in finance interviews, as they force candidates to think aloud – precisely what interviewers want to see. The most important thing to remember about brainteasers, guesstimates, or even simple math questions that are designed to be stressful is to let your interviewer see how your mind works. The best approach for a guesstimate question is to think of a funnel. You begin by thinking broadly, then slowly narrowing down the situation towards the answer. Let’s look at this approach in context. Let’s go back to the question of how many ping pong balls fit in a 747. The first thing you need to determine is the volume of the ping pong ball and the volume of a 747. For any guesstimate or brainteaser question, you will need to understand whether your interviewer will be providing any direction or whether you will have to make assumptions. Therefore, begin the analysis of a guesstimate or brainteaser question with a question to your interviewer, such as, “What is the volume of a single ping pong ball?” If the interviewer does 134 © 2005 Vault Inc. ...New Idea for an Old Brand: As a way to freshen up the traditional brand and to gain more exposure, the granddaughter of the Margaux family wanted to begin mass marketing a new wine brand. The idea would be to use different grapes in order to be more accessible to the younger generation. The target price range would be €20-€25 per bottle (Dessain, 2011). There are a large number of young wine drinkers who cannot afford the high prices of the current Gran Vin brand and are therefore not being attracted to the Château de Margaux vineyards. If these consumers were introduced to an affordable brand of wine from the Margaux estate, then they may be more likely to recognize and trust the brand. That way, when they are looking for a more expensive wine, they will first go to their label of Grand Vin from the Château de Margaux collection. General Concerns: Some of the issues with this suggestion are: maintaining the exclusivity of the original brand, ensuring that consumers still feel motivated to pay the higher price point, and they will also now need a distributor, marketing team, and an ability to focus on more than one brand of wine. In this particular case, the Margaux business has a close-tie who is very familiar with the distributorship and marketing of wine, and therefore this is a solution to one of the issues; however there are several of the other issues that remain very pertinent concerns, as we will discuss later on. Possible Options: The......

Begin with the End

...Cynthia Whitehurst PSYC 1300 Learning Frameworks Module 2 Journal Assignment To begin with the end means that I must know where I plan on going not only in my career but in my personal life. I need a plan that will get me to my goals and make the most of what I have already learned. In the 8th grade a recruiter for the Navy came to our school to explain all the interesting and fun benefits that a person could get from the military. Right then and there I decided to join the Navy as a Navy Nurse and then finish my education to become a Pediatrician. My plan to become a nurse came to a halt when I became pregnant with twin sons and was not able to continue on that path. Reading into the Covey visualization example about picturing what people would say about me at my funeral really put things into perspective. The realization that I didn’t complete my goal as becoming a I want people to say that I was dedicated to making a better life for my children, continuing my education and I never wanted to stop learning to better educate my children. I would also like people to know me for the love and passion that I gave to my family and my friends. I agree with Covey when he says that all things needed to be created twice in order for them to be successful. He says that first you must have a mental creation followed by a physical creation. While I was pregnant I took the time to evaluate what I wanted to do with my future as well as the children’s future (mental......

Once the Bleeding Begins

..."Once the Bleeding Begins, the Healing Can Begin"-Tori Amos Oppression is defined as the use of authority or power in a burdensome, cruel and unjust manner. When someone is physically and/or mentally oppressed for having a belief or belonging to an individual group, it can be individually demoralizing and degenerizing. Unfortunatly, The human race has been known to enforce their ability to oppress people through many avenues such as an individual belief in religion, a physical handicap or the way an individual may dress. However, for this essay, I have looked closely at specific females that were oppressed through unequality in specific to their individual race, social heirarchy of power, and sexuality. Unequality between male and female has been seen all over the United States. For example, American females finally were given the right to vote in 1920. In a racial sense, whether male or female, black and white people were segregated in public up until the 1950s. Financial status determined your ranking on the social hierarchy of power granting an individual the ability to have a great influence or to f. dFinancial status was signifigant; higher amounts of incomes meant one had a strong influence in society and respect was demanded. All of which were based on the norms of the time. Currently The United States of America does enforce laws that restrict physical harm onto others and enacted an equal opportunity act, thus enabling all Americans......

If Your Teen Begins to Fail in School

...If Your Teen Begins to Fail in School More Information on School Success - Universal Education Many teens experience a time when keeping up with school work is difficult. These periods may last several weeks and may include social problems as well as a slide in academic performance. Research suggests that problems are more likely to occur during a transitional year, such as moving from elementary to middle school, or middle school to high school. Some adolescents are able to get through this time with minimal assistance from their parents or teachers. It may be enough for a parent to be available simply to listen and suggest coping strategies, provide a supportive home environment, and encourage the child's participation in school activities. However, when the difficulties last longer than a single grading period, or are linked to a long-term pattern of poor school performance or behavior problems, parents and teachers need to intervene. Identifying Adolescents Who Are At Risk for Failure Some "at-risk" indicators, such as those listed here, may represent persistent problems from the early elementary school years for some children. Other students may overcome early difficulties but begin to experience related problems during middle school or high school. For others, some of these indicators may become noticeable only in early adolescence. To intervene effectively, parents and teachers can be aware of some common indicators of an......

How Slavery Begin in America

...Name: Gbemileke Bello Instructor: Tina Ligon Course: HIST 226 Date: 28 Feb 2014 HOW SLAVERY BEGIN AND END IN AMERICA The origin of Africa slavery begins with triangular trade, which involved in taking manufacture goods like cloth, spirit, tobacco, metal goods and guns from Europe to Africa. These goods were exchange for African slaves. The guns were used to help African kings to expand their empires and obtain more slaves. The middle passage involved shipping of the slaves to the American, while the Europeans return to Europe with the goods, produce from the slave labor plantations like cotton, sugar, Tobacco etc. In 1619, the Dutch introduced the first 20 captured Africans to America, planting the seeds of a slavery system that evolved into a nightmare of abuse and cuelty that would ultimately divide the nation. After 1619, when a Dutch ship brought 20 Africans ashore at the British colony of Jamestown, Virginia, slavery spread throughout the American colonies. Though it is impossible to give accurate figures, some historians have estimated that 6 to 7 million slaves were imported to the New World during the 18th century alone, depriving the African continent of some of its healthiest and ablest men and women. The demand for slaves on plantation produced two distinct types of slaves, rural and urban. Rural slaves worked on plantation usually from dawn till dust, driven by their overseer. While urban slavery result from the lack of white laborers in......

...victim of oppression from the men surrounding and controlling her life leading to her insanity and ultimately suicidal death. The origin of Ophelia’s madness is found through examination of her relationships with these men. Her father Polonius appears to be the sole parental figure in the play since there was no mention of a mother and there appears to be a close relationship between her and her brother and father. Ophelia relies heavily on her father and goes to him for advice and does whatever he asks of her. It was common for women to do as a man told her even if they did not agree to what they were being ordered to do, it is also understood that no one took into account the affects this type of society had on women. In this extreme case the affect is shown in Ophelia’s death. Ophelia’s fairytale ended before it even started when the suspicion that Polonius had previously requested Ophelia to fornicate with the King of Denmark in order to earn his new astute stature of being his advisor was brought to attention by a literature professor at the University of Michigan. In an argument, Hamlet refers to Polonius as “…a fishmonger.” (II, ii, 190) a fishmonger in Shakespeare’s time was slang for a pimp which further proves that the possibility of Polonius doing such a horrid thing to Ophelia is there. One could argue against this but Hamlet again calls Polonius in another little rant “… O Jephthah…” (II, ii, 427) This is as biblical allusion to Judges 11.29-40 where Jephthah......

Begin with the End Result in Mind

...piece of my mind", when it comes to poor service. I was. I changed. Why? I stopped and thought, after a life changing experience, what would life be like in their shoes. Now let me see... Did the person I am about to speak with send me the incorrect item? Did the person I am about to speak with promise my service would be connected yesterday? When dealing with large corporations, the answer is inevitably, "No." So why abuse the living daylights out of someone who: didn't cause your problem you have called to fix the problem. I have had this conversation with CEO's and the long-term unemployed, and the penny drops when you present this quandary. Steven R. Covey, in his book, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People says "Begin with the end result in mind". Have a goal, even if it is just for a phone call. Think of what you want to achieve and go for it. Top line executives may consider a 5 minute conversation as a pointless goal setting exercise, but it works. I once had experienced a lengthy delay to have an internet service connected at my home for my business. When I share this experience with people, you see scorn and hatred in eyes and in body language. People say, "I would have abused them." I then ask, "Would the abuse get you the result you are looking for?" So.... End result - internet connection, ASAP. Secondary result - free month service (for inconvenience :-) Remember, you want the customer service person to help you! First thing I......

...Kyle Mathes Texas A&M Commerce MGT. 585 CDBG Case 1 Overview In early 2004 the Community Reinvestment Department of BOK Financial Corporation was no performing to BOK’s standards. The CRA Department is necessary for regulated banks to expand. This department was meeting the minimal standards, which resulted in “satisfactory”. BOK expected “outstanding“ performance ratings for all of its banking departments. The CRA Department had five locations with nineteen that were very unorganized. The head of the Department was located in Tulsa Oklahoma. A few of the major issues involved inside the CRA Department include issues with the CRA personnel reporting compliance issues, a lack of automation, and a bad reputation. Steven Bradshaw was assigned to turn the department around Discussion of the Decisions Two of Bradshaw’s major concerns were the department was not profitable and did not meet BOK’s standards. The first step he took to turn the department around was a change of leadership. Bradshaw hired Paula Ellis as the new leader. Ellis worked under Bradshaw in the past and was very well qualified for the position. The leadership of a department is extremely important and in this case Paula was a great decision. She has experience working with banks and in the community. Together, Ellis and Bradshaw helped create a good “tone at the top”. There were four key points the team wanted enact. Society Begins at Home

...this new found freedom by going to work outside of the home. As women sought employment, their children were left to the care of babysitters and day care workers. Because society has redefined the role of a mother to be one who is an important element in the workforce, the loss of the mother in the home has led to the Fellhoelter 2 decline of the family unit, and thus, to society. This forfeiture has created a generation for whom social morals and values are not as important as they once were. Perhaps this is due to a working mother being absent from the home where she is unable to personally instill these ethical standards in her children, thus leaving her children to receive their value system from strangers. “Society truly does begin at home”, asserts Sibyl Niemann, so, in order to return to a culture with better morals and values, the importance of the role of the stay at home mother should be restored. (2) In this way, stay at home mothers can improve society. It is disappointing when mothers are devalued for staying at home to raise their children. Richard Lowry states, “There is something valuable in a mother’s caring for her own child.” (4) In general, no one can take care of your child in the same way his or her mother would. A mother’s care is usually superior to daycare since she naturally wants what is best for her child. “According to a non-partisan Public Agenda survey in 2000, roughly 80 percent of parents with children five and younger say a......

Innovation Begins with Creativity

...Innovation Begins with Creativity Creativity and the creative process is seen as a human trait. These are my ideas that have been informed with some research on what creativity means to humans and how it promotes innovation. The impact of creativity on innovation is bringing together connections from someone's experience and producing something new, this is creativity and in turn innovation. Creativity requires different kinds of thinking and draws on the richness of someone’s experience, not the depth of knowledge in one field. A creative or innovation person should be able to see the big picture and gather ideas from different places. If an individual is too focused on one task, it blinds them from the ideas all around them. Circumstance plays a large role in shaping someone's creative ability as well as the support from those around them. This is a more personal approach to creative thought and a valid one. Creativity in education shows students are progressing in a new thinking environment that is creative centered as well as innovative. In my mind, creativity and innovation are in the most general sense the ability to make connections and come up with new ways of generating solutions. When thinking about creativity, most people think of the arts such as painting, sculpture, and music. The method people use to create something through these mediums is considered creative. This could include having influence from the past, having a certain way of doing art, or even......

What Begins People’s Discovery of Science?

...Topic: What begins people’s discovery of science? Thesis: “Hypotheses non fingo,” Newton confidently claimed. Therefore, he arbitrarily excluded the “hypothesis” from the experimental philosophy. Affected by him, more and more remarks neglected the importance of the “hypotheses” since then. As a result, it becomes a common view that discovery should proceed from analytic methods stricto sensu. Then, what is the real definition of hypothesis in Newton’s opinion ? Will he believe in intuition? Therefore, I will try to explain the definition of both “hypothesis” and “intuition”, and then attach significance to the “intuition” to show how the intuition begins a new discovery of science and struggle to prove that sometimes, the intuition can be a quite strong power to lead us to reach our confirmations. Outline: 1. The moment when I realize the importance of the intuition (Faraday) 2. The definition of hypothesis and intuition 3. The supporter- Einstein (using his examples as detailed ones) 4. The other famous successful discoveries in four different fields: Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Geography (describing the main story of each example) 5. How should we treat the intuition? What should we do after the intuition? 6. The conclusion includes 1) The importance of the intuition, 2) The significant role it has acted in the history of science, 3) Its efficiency of finding a certain answer, 4) An interesting analogy to show the role of......

...1. Describe the situation and the buyer’s apparent needs. The situation presented in the case illustrated a car salesman attempting to gain a better understanding of the prospective customer’s needs. The buyer is looking to buy a used vehicle. He asks questions pertaining to the use of the car, size, mpg, etc to gain knowledge about the buyer. It appears that the buyer is preconscious of her needs as she goes looks at a larger vehicle, but yet knows she needs one that is simply reliable and good on gas mileage. After the seller begins to understand what the buyer is looking for, he then shows her possible options that meet her criteria; however, she didn’t seem very adamant about any of the five cars and decided to continue shopping around. The buyer’s perception, which is the process by which they select, organize and interpret information, seems to be distorted in this situation. 2. What should the seller do now that the buyer has said no to the cars he has shown her and is about to leave the car lot? Since the buyer has said no to the cars presented by the seller, it is important for the seller to understand why the buyer said no. Instead of letting the buyer simply walk away, the seller should have engaged in further conversation to get a better understanding as to why the buyer feels the cars will not serve her needs. The buyer may not have any issue with the cars, but instead may not be ready to purchase just yet. On the other hand, the buyer bluntly told the seller......
