If Mass Society Didn't Exist, Would There Still Be Mass Media?

...that the murder case of Jamie Bulger by 2 ten year old boys was influenced by a violent movie called Child’s Play. All the violent images of people hurting one another in the media can be quite traumatic to young children. The more the children are exposed to violence; their nature will be inclined to be more aggressive as they are in the growing stage in terms of mind and body. Their personal values and beliefs will become more aggressive and they will tend to lose a sense of distinction of what is reality and what is fiction. Not only that, the media tends to use war as a source of entertainment. In effect, the youths will not take war and its effects seriously. Through this argument, it is clear that it is not mass media that will not exist if mass society did not; but the other way round. Youths in this competitive world want to be successful and if possible, be ahead of their competition. They want to be accepted into society and be loved and admired by their peers. The media has managed to use this competitive streak to their advantage by projecting the ideal image of a successful person. They concocted images of surreally beautiful men and women with all the ideal characteristics of a successful person, which were portrayed in movies and television shows. Indirectly, it is a marketing strategy to convince consumers to buy a particular product or brand if they want to look like the ideal man or woman and become successful. In this context, Adorno and Horkheimer have......

Still

...Crisostomo, Debberose B. BS ECE – 2B Still Struggling for something to write about myself, I spent hours staring at a blank sheet of paper but end up with nothing. But then, tears started to fall, I do not even know why, I just felt like crying tonight. It seems like years that I have forgotten how to cry. It seems like a lifetime that you have been gone. It seems like forever with you will never come. Memories came crashing on my mind giving me headache. Blurred visions, faces, scenes and places, until it all get clear. It was a rainy afternoon when I met you at the playground. I am crying because my mother scolded me. Until someone reach my hand and gave me a lollipop. I don’t know why but I started to laugh at you. Seeing you with that epic face, it’s just priceless. You look like a pitiful child that has found a helpless kitten. Of course, I have taken that lollipop but I did not eat it until now, maybe the ants does. We played in the rain, rolled in the mud and chased after one another. Our friendship grows as the flowers bloom in the field. We went to the same school and graduated elementary. Even in high school, I am very happy that we are in the same class. Again, our friendship grew deeper as we talked about each other’s problems and secrets. We are always mistaken lovers because we are always together in everything we do, even in the club we joined in, eating in the cafeteria, and going home. I thought those days will never end. But that was......

God Exist

Argument (point) #1: Apollo Argument (point) #2: The Cranium and the Brain Argument (point) #3: Hibernation: The bear Argument (point) #4: The painted turtle. The deer, the squirrel and the woodpecker: Conclusion: All societies since the creation of the world comprehend that acumen and intellect originate from a superior Intelligence. As described in Genesis chapter one, G-d created the world in six days. Does God Exist? Where there is design, there is a designer. Those who choose to disbelieve must twist their logic into pretzels in order to accommodate the misinformation they feed themselves. They expend endless energy positing the truth of their assertions to the rest of the world. In a sense, lack of faith is easier because it absolves the denier of any obligation, appreciation or indebtedness to The Creator. G-d created the world in six days as described in the Book of Genesis, chapter one. Frank observation by rational persons of any of the smallest quantifiable aspects of this ordered world will lead to the conclusion that there is a Creator. They can choose to examine a leaf, a gnat or a blood cell. “All roads lead home”. They must each draw the same conclusion. I have chosen examples from the human body and from nature that are but tiny illustrations of the glory, the profound......

Racism, Does It Still Exist Today?

...Racism, Does it Still exist? Keira Garner Liberty University Online Abstract Many people today believe racism doesn’t exist and is a term that existed in times before the 1960’s. Racism is hidden in modern society and it brings separation, hatred, war, and at times social injustice. When most people hear of racism they refer to “slavery”, but many different cultures are discriminated against and faced with racism. Throughout society multiculturalism can be referred to racism. Some cultures are trying to work together to build a better life. Throughout this paper I will discuss how racism can be institutional, learned, cancerous, dangerous, but not accidental. Furthermore, this paper will bring awareness that ethnicity and racial association can determine an individual’s worth personally and their identity. In addition comprehending that racism is yet present in many cultures. Multiculturalism allows one to think that all cultures are equal regardless of one’s moral views. According to Stewart (2012) racism can be defined as speaking, acting or thinking negatively about someone else solely based on that person’s color, class or culture (p. 466). In our society today it is suggested that racism was deleted after the Civil Rights era. The truth is racism is very much present today. Throughout society multiculturalism can be referred to racism. Racism can be known as institutional, learned, cancerous, dangerous, but not accidental. Society tries to portray that......

Does Racism Still Exist?

...An African American scholar and civil rights attorney by the name of Derrick Bell developed an article, “Faces at the Bottom of the Well: The Permanence of Racism,” to inform the world on how racism will always be here, in America. Bell proved points on how racism is still prominent, just less obvious. The absence of the dreadful “Whites only” signs all throughout town at local restaurants and shops have lead most whites to believe that racism has been erased but it actually just has been covered up. Bell explains that through allegory, fables and dialogues with a fictional black woman named Geneva Crenshaw. Bell blames the slow progression of African Americans in America on racism. Even though racism has slowed down a bit, whites are still somehow finding ways to stay many steps ahead of blacks. America portrays the image as the land of opportunity. More like the land of opportunity for whites, with the exception of a few others. Blacks may have the same opportunities for success, but the road to success is filled with way more obstacles to overcome. Dinesh D’Souza, an Indian-American filmmaker and author, objects Derrick Bell’s point of view on racism. D’Souza’s article, “The End of Racism,” explains how racism is not the cause of the slow progression of African Americans. According to D’Souza, the obstacles blacks face today were created within the African American culture itself. Single parenthood, welfare dependency, drug use and violence would not cease in......

Descartes proposes a general rule, “that whatever one perceives very clearly and very distinctly is true” Descartes discovers, “that he can doubt what he clearly and distinctly perceives is true led to the realization that his first immediate priority should be to remove the doubt” because, “no organized body of knowledge is possible unless the doubt is removed” The best probable way to remove the doubt is prove that God exists, that he is not a deceiver and “will always guarantee that any clear and distinct ideas that Descartes second argument for proving God’s existence is very straightforward. He has four possibilities that created his existence. Through process of elimination he is left with God being his creator. Descartes succeeded in some parts of his proof for the existence of God, but failed in proving God’s existence from a logical point of view. Most religions prove that anybody can be right in his own description of existence of God. So, Descartes is right in his own way, but to others to accept his idea is totally up to them. No one is certain that God exists. Although there are many causes that could make one believe God is for certain, those causes which might be perceived, does not necessarily make them true....

A Problem Exists

...A Problem Exists William Baughan Prof Valentine ENG 215 11/5/2013 A Problem Exists The liberals in our political system have always tried to get rid of guns that they are a danger to us as a society and the conservatives and libertarians follow the Second Amendment of our Constitution. The Second Amendment gives us the right to keep and bear arms as well as protection from others. I believe citizens should be permitted to carry concealed weapons in their workplaces, such as schools and offices, which would deter criminals, increase security, and create an atmosphere of safety. Homicides by weapon type, 1976-2004. Gun-involved homicides have increased since falling to a low in 1999. Homicides by weapon type, 1976-2004. Gun-involved homicides have increased since falling to a low in 1999. (Berry, 2013)First, gun violence has been a topic of conversation in the political arena for a long time. The most common gun violence as well as violence by itself occurs in poor urban areas usually associated with gang violence. There has been a lot of school shooting such as the Virginia Tech shootings and Columbine high school massacre. It’s almost like clockwork when mass shootings occur there will be a debate on gun laws. Politicians have sought for the correct balance between what regulations to add and what not to add. Second, there has been an increase number of violence in schools that usually involve guns. Every day you turn on the news or......

Racism Still Exist in the 21st Century

...Racism Still Exist in the 21st Century Many are oblivious that racism still exists today. We are often taught that racism is a thing of the past. In school we study the notorious figures of Martin Luther King Jr. and Rosa Parks. The concepts of segregation and inequality are often taught in a historical context. However, if you take a look around racism is very present in today’s society and can be found by looking at the achievement gap, and mass incarceration system. Another representation that racism exists today is the concept of white privilege, which is deeply immersed into society. The achievement gap is a major aspect when we think of racism in the twenty-first century. According to the National Assessment of Education Progress (NAEP), there are large gaps in test scores between African American students and White students (Vanneman, A., Hamilton, L., Baldwin Anderson, J., and Rahman, T. 2009). At the age of nine and thirteen students are given a test in both reading and mathematics to determine the level at which they are performing (Vannerman, et al., 2009). The results are then translated to a scale by the National Assessment of Education Progress (NAEP). From this scale experts have gathered valuable information that confirms the achievement gap is still present today. Many say that the achievement gap is due to various reasons. One main reason that seems to be associated with achievement gap is the stability of the parents (Vannerman, et...

...$39.95 [preview] Existentialism - Rarely in this world does something turn out as an objective or even partially objective matter. One must always assume some set of axioms as true. In math, sixteen axioms exist for one to properly utilize and prove things with merely real numbers, one of the first and simplest tools in a person’s arsenal. Most of these aren’t that hard to agree with, like “for all x and y in the set R, x + y = y + x,” but other principles and ideas contain much more controversial assumptions such as, “God exists.” Within this world, the only truth one can believe resides as one’s consciousness.... In other words, an existentialist believes that our natures are the natures we make for ourselves, the meaning of our existence is that we just exist and there may or may not be a meaning for the existence, and we have to individually decide what is right or wrong and good or bad for ourselves.... Still Separate, Still Unequal

...Still Separate, Still Unequal Segregation is a topic that has been discussed for decades. Segregation in schools wasn't really dealt with. The government basically disguised it and kept it away from the public. Brown V. Board of Education, Plessy V. Ferguson, and Jim Crow Laws was the cover, but it didn't solve anything. Segregation isn't just about race, it's also financially. When money is involved in the situation there's a major advantage. Johnathan Kozol talks about how we're still separate, and unequal. Johnathan Kozol touched on some really great points, when it came down to gproving how we're separate, and unequal. Kozol digs a little deeper to back up his word on being separate and unequal. In the following paragraphs I will summarize Kozol's article "Still Separate, Still Unequal" and continue on what needs to be done to solve this problem. Many people wonder do segregation still exist, but not many people want to investigate. Jonathan Kozol, did a little more than investigate. Jonathan Kozol pointed out, in most poor neighborhoods the schools have mostly black and Hispanic students (348). The percentage of blacks and Mexicans students were higher than fifty percent. There was a teacher who was 65 years old who taught at a majority black school stated that "Out of eighteen years, this is the first white student I have ever taught" (348). It's not very common that white students attend underclass schools. Kozol stated that there is a school in New York City named...

Be Still

...needless to lay up those weapons of war for their own service. The bringing of a long war to a good issue is a work of the Lord, which we ought to behold with wonder and thankfulness. II. As King of saints, and as such we must own that great and marvellous are his works, Rev 15:3. He does and will do great things, 1. For his own glory (v. 10): Be still, and know that I am God. (1.) Let his enemies be still, and threaten no more, but know it, to their terror, that he is God, one infinitely above them, and that will certainly be too hard for them; let them rage no more, for it is all in vain: he that sits in heaven, laughs at them; and, in spite of all their impotent malice against his name and honour, he will be exalted among the heathen and not merely among his own people, he will be exalted in the earth and not merely in the church. Men will set up themselves, will have their own way and do their own will; but let them know that God will be exalted, he will have his way will do his own will, will glorify his own name, and wherein they deal proudly he will be above them, and make them know that he is so. (2.) Let his own people be still; let them be calm and sedate, and tremble no more, but know, to their comfort, that the Lord is God, he is God alone, and will be exalted above the heathen; let him alone to maintain his honour, to fulfil his own counsels and to support his own interest in the world.
