Write a 150- to 250-word response to each of the following questions:

• How is discrimination different from prejudice and stereotyping? Discrimination differs from prejudice and stereotyping in a way that discrimination isn’t just a way that discrimination isn’t just an negative attitude that rejects an entire group, as prejudice is defined. Discrimination is the denial of opportunities and equal rights to individuals and groups because of prejudice or other arbitrary reasons. Prejudice does not necessarily end with wealth. Discrimination also has accumulative effect so that people today are victims of past and current differential practices. As stereotyping are unreliable generalizations about some members of a particular group without considering an individual’s differences. I feel discrimination has many forms, aside from race, also age, sexual orientation or wealth. Discrimination can hinder a person from advancing in their life, which will affect future. You see…...

Impact of Apps

...Mobile Marketing – The Impact of Mobile Apps on Lifestyle and Activities March 28, 2013 MBA 676-D4A3 – Marketing Strategies in the Digital Age Mobile Marketing – The Impact of Mobile Apps on Lifestyle and Activities Mobile phone applications (apps) have become a very powerful marketing tool for businesses. These downloaded apps assist the user in everyday tasks to make life easier for managing a hectic schedule, pass time while waiting in line or at the airport, make shopping more fun as well as make it easier to do business with an array of companies through their apps. The time spent on mobile apps has increased dramatically since the invention of smart devices and the iPad as well as surpassed time spent on the traditional Internet. Social networking apps are near the top of the list such as Facebook and Twitter (Roberts and Zahay, 2013, p. 307). Apps appeal to a wide variety of interests, lifestyles and demographic groups. There are many apps for fashion, sports and entertainment as well as location-based marketing for restaurants, shops, etc. (Roberts and Zahey, 2013, p. 452-554). What do I use on my Blackberry? Do apps really impact my life? Discussion I will turn 50 this year, so I am a bit old-fashioned and quite new to the mobile applications market. In fact, I just recently began using apps last August when I received a Blackberry from my new employer. The first app I downloaded was AT&T Navigation so I could get to my new colleagues’ homes......

...operated by the owner of the mobile operating system, such as the Apple App Store, Google Play, Windows Phone Store, and BlackBerry App World. Usually, they are downloaded from the platform to a target device, such as an iPhone, BlackBerry, Android phone or Windows Phone, but sometimes they can be downloaded to laptops or desktops. Mobile apps were originally offered for general productivity reasons, including email, calendar, contacts, stock market and weather information. However, public demand and the availability of developer tools drove rapid expansion into other categories, such as mobile games, factory automation, GPS and location-based services, banking, order-tracking, and ticket purchases. For this assignment I will focus on two apps, Swell Radio and MyFitnessPal. I am a person who is just getting my feet wet when it comes to the tech sector. I am a beginner, and so far I seem to enjoy apps that are rather simple and productivity based. MyFitnessPal Available on: Website myfitnesspal.com Founded 2005 Founder Albert Lee, Mike Lee Product Czar Warren Wan MyFitnessPal is very useful and is a must have when I want to keep track of my calories consumed and burned on a daily basis. The app’s aim is to make good health attainable and sustainable for everyone. Used by more than 40 million people, MyFitnessPal is the leading resource for taking charge of daily health. This free mobile app started as a website in 2005, when co-founder Mike Lee and his......

Mobile App

...Web or Mobile App Paper CIS 207 Tim Thacker J Adam Hendricks 05 AUG 2013 The topic of discussion for this paper is going to be on the mobile app “Gas Buddy” for Android. Gas Buddy is one of the most practical apps that I use. I use it on average only about once a week, but it can potentially save me hundreds of dollars a year in gasoline charges if I use it effectively. The way Gas buddy works is that it allows it’s users to locate the nearest gas stations to them or the gas stations in a location they will be in later in the day. This is enabled by utilizing the smart phone’s location services or GPS. In addition to that, Gas buddy will also list the prices of gas at each station for each fuel grade. Since Gas stations vary their prices based on their competition, this app really empowers the consumer by allowing them to see the prices of all the stations in the area. In the old days, we could only compare the prices of gas stations by physically seeing them AT the different stations with our own two eyes and word of mouth. Gas buddy has become our new source for word of mouth communications for gas prices. Gas Buddy is designed so that it’s users post the prices themselves, with the users becoming the dynamic source data that is required for and displayed by Gas buddy. This means that Gas buddy is constantly changing and always up-to-date. On the flip side, Gas buddy is similar to Wikipedia in that it uses open-source data and that data is not 100% reliable....

Comparison of C, C++, and C#

...Jason Latham Comparison of C, C++, and C# IADT Seattle The C family of languages has been a cornerstone in the programming field for years. So exactly what is the C family? It includes the C, C++ and C# (pronounced sharp) languages. Now that we know what they are, what are the differences between the three? Well, that is what will be discussed here. C is a minimalistic programming language because it could be compiled in a straightforward manner by a relatively simple compiler. C offers low-level access to memory via pointers and the ability to access specific hardware addresses. C generates only a few instructions of machine languages for each of its core language elements and does not require extensive run-time support. It can be concluded that C language is suitable for many systems-programming applications that had traditionally been implemented in assembly languages (Gabb, 2012). With its inherent low-level memory access and small run-time support, using C for embedded hardware systems is ideal. Many devices such as robots, machinery, and electronic tools are programmed utilizing its ability to access specific hardware addresses. However, as C is structured oriented programming language and focuses on the procedural programming paradigm, it is relatively hard to control the large-scale program. As C language has high level and machine level mixed programming capacity, it is used in most hardware related applications. It is very suitable for writing programs in......

...to those taken in the walk-through. This assignment must be submitted using the submit script (see the class website for details) by the end of the day next Wednesday. You may submit it multiple times if you wish. Only the last submission will be counted. For example, it might be a good idea to go ahead and submit it after you have done the walk-through and gotten that part working. If you wait until the last minute to try to submit and you have problems with the submission script, you’ll likely have to use one of your valuable late days. Be sure to check out the Hints section below! Materials • Before you start this assignment, you will need to download and install the iOS SDK and Xcode 4 from http://developer.apple.com or using the App Store on Mac OSX. It is critical that you get the SDK downloaded and functioning as early as possible in the week so that if you have problems you will have a chance to talk to the CA’s and get help. If you wait until the weekend (or later!) and you cannot get the SDK downloaded and installed, it is unlikely you’ll finish this assignment on time. • The walkthrough document for the first part of the assignment can be found on the class website (in the same place you found this document). Bad Apps

...So what constitutes a badly-built app? Verizon recently started rating apps on three key criteria: battery consumption, data usage and security risks. For now it is only concentrating on the Top 50 Android apps, but the guide provides useful insight into what Verizon considers best-practice standards for the key criteria. mobiThinking acknowledges there are more key criteria to creating a quality app, in terms of usability, device compatibility, stability etc – and that’s true – but arguably, problems with battery consumption, data usage and security risks are some of the most important of all quality assurance (QA) criteria because: a) they are mostly hidden from consumers; b) they are more easily overlooked by developers; c) the consequences are far reaching. Bad apps affect the performance of the device, battery and network; inflate the phone bill; and most consumers blame the device, operator… anyone except the real culprits. If the user interface (UI) is rubbish or the app keeps crashing, there’s little doubt the app is to blame and users will happily broadcast their verdict in their app reviews. 1) Battery consumption Some mobile applications use a lot of energy, causing unnecessary drain on the (already heavily taxed) device battery. There are numerous reasons why this occurs and, where it is caused by bad, ignorant or devious development practices, it can and should be rectified. Causes of battery depletion include: • Apps that run without the user’s......

...the key questions in the United States v. Microsoft antitrust trial was whether Microsoft's Internet Explorer web browser was part of its Windows operating system or a separable piece of application software. As another example, the GNU/Linux naming controversy is, in part, due to disagreement about the relationship between the Linux kernel and the operating systems built over this kernel. In some types of embedded systems, the application software and the operating system software may be indistinguishable to the user, as in the case of software used to control a VCR, DVD player or microwave oven. The above definitions may exclude some applications that may exist on some computers in large organizations. For an alternative definition of an app: see Application Portfolio Management. [edit] Application software classificationApplication software falls into two general categories; horizontal applications and vertical applications. Horizontal applications are the most popular and widespread in departments or companies. Vertical applications are niche products, designed for a particular type of business or division in a company. There are many types of application software: An application suite consists of multiple applications bundled together. They usually have related functions, features and user interfaces, and may be able to interact with each other, e.g. open each other's files. Business applications often come in suites, e.g. Microsoft Office, OpenOffice.org and......

App Developer

...A 12-year-old app developer TEDxManhattanBeach · 04:40 · Filmed Oct 2011 I've always had a fascination for computers and technology, and I made a few apps for the iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad. I'd like to share a couple with you today. My first app was a unique fortune teller called Earth Fortune that would display different colors of earth depending on what your fortune was. My favorite and most successful app is Bustin Jieber, which is — (Laughter) — which is a Justin Bieber Whac-A-Mole. I created it because a lot of people at school disliked Justin Bieber a little bit, so I decided to make the app. So I went to work programming it, and I released it just before the holidays in 2010. A lot of people ask me, how did I make these? A lot of times it's because the person who asked the question wants to make an app also. A lot of kids these days like to play games, but now they want to make them, and it's difficult, because not many kids know where to go to find out how to make a program. I mean, for soccer, you could go to a soccer team. For violin, you could get lessons for a violin. But what if you want to make an app? And their parents, the kid's parents might have done some of these things when they were young, but not many parents have written apps. (Laughter) Where do you go to find out how to make an app? Well, this is how I approached it. This is what I did. First of all, I've been programming in multiple other programming languages to get the basics down, such......

Banking App

...Banking APP In today’s world a phone is more than just a device that makes calls to family, friends and businesses, we are doing so much more than we ever could imagine in the past. The smart phone is the new device where we are able to do so much more than just talking, the wireless technology has taken the office and put it in the palm of our hands and made it mobile, so we can do those office functions remotely. The advantages of this technology in short is that it allows more communication with others through not only talking but also through texting and internet which has allowed face to face communicating like skype and Apple’s face time to name a few. We are also dependent on our smart phone to help us navigate through our day from the calendar to remember appointments, meetings, doctors’ appointments, alarms, GPS, internet, social media, shopping and mobile banking which all of these are applications that make day-to-day life a little easier. Many of the changes that we have seen when it comes to smart phone technology have improved quite a bit of the last ten years or so and are that people are using those features and functions that are convenient for them. Much of this can be contributed to the fact that in today’s times we have less and less time to ourselves, we need more convenient ways to do more in shorter amount of time and smartphones and APPS are a way to get this done . This is not only for the US citizens but worldwide users as well who maybe feeling the...

...platform for Apple's email servers and calendars. Third-party iOS and OS X app developers are able to implement iCloud functionality in their apps through the iCloud API.[25] Backup and restore[edit] iCloud allows users to back up the settings and data on iOS devices running iOS 5 or later.[26] Data backed up includes photos and videos in the Camera Roll, device settings, app data, messages (iMessage, SMS, and MMS), ringtones, and Visual Voicemails. Backups occur daily when the device is locked and connected to Wi-Fi and a power source. In case of a malfunction of any Apple device, during the restoration process, iCloud offers to restore all data along with App data only if the device was synced to iCloud and backed up. Back to My Mac[edit] Main article: Back to My Mac Back to My Mac, also previously part of MobileMe, is now part of iCloud.[27] As before, this service allows users to log in remotely to other computers that have Back to My Mac enabled and are configured with the same Apple ID. Email[edit] As with MobileMe (and .Mac and iTools before it), an iCloud account includes an email account. Unlike MobileMe and its previous iterations, an email address is an optional part of an iCloud account, in that the user can choose not to use it but can still use the email as their iCloud Apple ID. The email account can be accessed using any standard IMAP-compatible email client, as well as the online web app mail client at the iCloud.com. Additionally, on an iOS device,......
